As much as you all want the Johnnies to win at UST Saturday, it's not gonna happen. They beat up on an already dismantled Hamline squad on their home court, so don't get too excited about it. I'd love to see Hopkins play Hamline right now, I'd probably put my money on the Royals. As much as I want to head to Schoenecker on Saturday and watch Ike dunk on the Schafers and see Schnettler rain 3s from everywhere, this guy gets to go to the Xcel Energy Center and cover the state danceline competition, how lucky am I. That clip of the Winona State dunk was monstrous. Now that's a badooka dunk! I love how the defender turned his back and then got crushed anyway.

The Pipes may be dismantled but there was some doubt from posters about the game. The Pipers usually play well at Sexton and played pretty well early. The Johnnies starting five absolutely dismantled the Pipers. The game could have been a 50 point blow out if Smith had wanted it to be. He pulled the starters at the around the 10 minute mark in the second half. The Johnnies are playing very well right now no matter who they played last night. I'm excited for Saturday's game. Its gonna be a barn burner!!  ;D ;D

with Schnettler and Sir getting all this attention for their great shooting, I think it is best to point out that the top 2 shooters in the country statistically, and by that I mean each over 100 3's and 49%, are from Minnesota...Schnettler from Sartell and then Sir, originally from Canada spent most of his high school career at Cretin Derham Hall...this is a great individual accompishment for both players, but I think it is also a great accompishment for Minnesota basketball to show that we can play with anyone, or at least shoot with anyone in the country

Northern Arizona will get another Minnesota sharpshooter next year to replace Sir as Northfield's Zach Filzen has committed to NAU.

As I was watching the game between the Cobbers and Auggies last night it became a little boring.  A combined 13-15 points in the first 5-6 min. of play.  Then out of nowhere I suddenly noticed Augsburg's coach wasn't the guy in the shirt and tie, but in cargo pants and a hawaiian shirt.  Then after calls did not go his way he started throwing little tantrums on the bench and kicking over water bottles.  It was like a kid in the candy store who didn't get his way.  Although, it was somewhat amusing at times.

Oh AUG won the game by 7.

Just wondering how long has that coach been there?  And does he ever dress up for games?

Nites,

You might be aware of this already, but Filzen already signed with Northern Arizona back in November when he was playing football and getting ready for the state playoffs. Filzen set the new career scoring mark in Northfield boys history Tuesday in their win over Red Wing, and he's within reach of the all-time scoring mark if they can make a run in sections. He's been known his entire career to be a perimeter shooter, but his basket to break the boys scoring record was the most athletic move I've ever seen him make. Kid got the ball on his own baseline, dribbled through or by every Red Wing defender and made a ridiculous scooping layup with 46 seconds left to essentially seal a win.

The last time Carleton and St. Olaf were both in the playoffs was in 2003, and they both were eliminated early. That was obviously the year the Gusties made their run to the NCAA title game. Olaf has been to the postseason four times total, and before '03, it was in '98.

TH4L,

I did know that he committed last fall.  I'm a little surprised that he gravitated so far from home.  Any idea what led him to Northern Arizona?  I remember Willy mentioning last year that he didn't think he necessarily had the athleticism for D-I ball, although he apparently can light it up from the outside.  Is he as tough a competitor as his mom?

Let me try that picture again.  For some reason it may only show up if you are logged in.

TH4L, did you snap the photo?

Griess? He's been the head coach since 2005. He has brought the program along way since he's been there too. Usually he dresses up but maybe he was going for the casual look on Wednesday!!

Nites,

No I didn't take that photo. That was our staff photographer, he's amazing. Anyway, Northern Arizona had recruited him since the end of his sophomore year. I think he took his visit there early last fall and fell in love with the campus, the program, coaches, etc. Plus, with Steve Sir graduating, there's a good chance he'll get playing time as a freshman. And yes he is a tough kid. If his shot isn't falling, he's not afraid to go to the hoop. His one problem this year is that he isn't getting to the FT line as much as he used to. He probably will be the all-time leading scorer before the season's end because Northfield one of the best teams in a pretty mediocre section. Good kid too. Every time I've asked him about scoring records, the only thing he says is that he wants to win and wants the team to do well.

He came to Augsburg from Chaminade. That might give you a hint on the hawaiian shirt.

Thanks, TH4L.  He must be fun to watch.

Madson, Linz, and Schnettler all with 19.9 points per game going into the last conference game.  It is crazy that the scoring title is that close between 3 guys.  I guess whoever scores the most on Sat. wins.  Madson will be hurt that he will most likely be getting a lot of rest for Mon (and that he only had 10 in their blowout win over Mary's).

SJU vs. UST for a conference championship...couldn't ask for a better script.  Winner gets home court, and more importantly won't have to play Bethel in the Semi's.  If Bethel can take care of their next two games they will have won 14 of their last 15 games going into that one!!

Jumping on the bethel bandwagon!

I'm so pumped.  Get to leave work early on friday, cha-ching!  Huge MIAC title game tomorrow.  All-star weekend.  My dunk-contest favorite going in is D. Howard.

Sum-as a gesture of sportsmanship, we even reserved a parking spot for the johnnie wagon.  You should find it pretty easily. It's behind the ladies bathroom next to the dumpster.   ;)

For the next 28 hours I'm bleeding pure purple and seeing red.

#1000!

I have been trying to come up with something dramatic and maybe even a little prophetic for my 1000 post! Alas, I must not be that deep of a thinker. I was also thinking about saving #1000 until late Saturday afternoon and have it read simply:

Johnnies beat Tommies........Again

But I have to make my pick ems before that so that won't work! I also felt obligated to respond to A-Snows offer of a parking spot for the band wagon. Thanks man but, We'll park the SJU Bandwagon any where we damn well please!  ;D

So #1000  turns out to be alot like the previous 999........ a whole lot of drivel! :D

Can't wait for tomorrow afternoon. How cool is that going to be? As a player this is what you practice for Johnnie's v. Tommie's and with a MIAC regular season title on the line to boot!

Remember you heard it hear first: Johnnies/Tommies 2007 round ll goes to the Johnnies "team" over UST's Big Three......Bank ;)

Linz and Schnettler are tied at 476 points apiece in 24 games with Madson 10 points back.  Madson will have to outscore each of the other 2 by 11 in order to take the scoring crown.  I'd say Linz is the favorite at this point as his team has nothing to play for so he can shoot all day long.  Schnettler, on the other hand, is playing in the big matchup and the Johnnies held him to 4 or 5 shot attempts the first time around.
