Tyler Westman should be a great addition to SJU. His brother, Luke, bounced from GAC to MSU and back to GAC seeing time at both places (I think, not positive about his time at MSU). I know SJU and GAC both recruited him very hard last year when he graduated from Mankato-Loyola, but the scholarship money drew him out west. I believe he has something of a bad back though, if my memory serves.

With the terrible offensive group Jim Smith was forced to use last year, he should provide solid help to Ohme and Hinrichs. I would be surprised if he doesn't step right in and start.

Hamline seems to be making some moves with that solid class. We'll soon see if the new guy is a good coach or just another Mack Brown.

LL - You would be surprised what you can learn when you listen to people who know what they are talking about. Maybe you should try it sometime http://discus.d3hoops.com/discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

You going to be at the RAC on Friday? I might be able to make it down for ball, if everything goes as planned the rest of the week.

ive seen the incoming freshman class over at hamline and i am very impressed by them but they might have a little trouble adjusting to the miac style

Local MN Coach

Hello all.  I'm checking in to offer an MIAC coaching tidbit that I recently heard in passing.  Augsburg has apparently hired former UNLV player and Minnesota native Andy Hannan as one of their assistant coaches.  Can anyone confirm this for the board?

What does your comment about Hamline's freshman class mean billy jean?

Willy--

Does Espo have a distant cousin named Bobby Kielty on the Oakland A's?  Resemblance is striking!!

Nah, but speaking of Espo...rumor on the street says he has an offer to play with the "New Yorkers" but is hoping to get an invitation to play over seas still.

Megalomaniac

How did the MCTC summer league shape up? Not that I am by any means implying that it is a predictor of the upcoming MIAC season, but at about the halfway point I had heard UST was rather dominant. Did that continue in the second half?

in looking at the football rosters, it looks like another Scheick has signed up for mIAC sports.  Taylor Scheick is listed as a freshman QB for Carleton.  Anyone know if he plays hoops as well like his two older "T" brothers?

word on the street is taylor scheick was a solid highschool qb...i also heard that he will be going out for bball too and prolly wont see the court for a couple years as he needs to develope a stronger hoops game

Crazy Carl

All three Schieck boys were pretty good QBs at the high school level (Austin, MN), though Taylor will be the only one to attempt both sports in college.  Taylor, like middle brother Tucker, isn't as big as Tanner, so his game might be slightly different, and not ready for the immediate strong impact that Tanner had in MIAC play.

Not sure I'm ready to make the adjustments to this new system.

This new format is both good and bad.  I guess we will all have to learn how to use it however if we want to continue to banter on about MIAC basketball.

A little birdie told me GAC finished last season 7th in D3 attendance. I couldn't open the URL that was sent along with the info, though. If anyone happens to know who drew more, I would be interested in hearing who it was. Regardless, that's pretty impressive stuff. I guess Fresh and AT were big draws. We'll have to see how they do this year with only half of the dynamic duo back.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Willy, I was able to open the link and I have the following information to report.

Hope was the top Division III school in attendance, drawing an average of 2,462 fans per game.  Second was Illinois Wesleyan.  Third was Calvin.  Fourth was UW-Stevens Point.  Fifth was Otterbein.  Sixth was Wooster.  Then GAC, who according to the numbers drew 1,447 fans a game.  They list the top 30 schools, and I noticed no other MIAC cracked the list.  There was however two other WIAC schools (UW-Stout was eleventh and UW-Platteville was 17th).  Both averaged over 1,000 fans per game.

I also happen to read that the MIAC finished 7th among the Division III Conferences in overall men's basketball attendance last year.  Michigan schools were number one with an average of 1,115 fans.  The WIAC was second.
