South Dakota Gusties

Conference play begins next Wednesday 11/30.  I personally would nominate one of the Gusties, they seem to have won this event more than any of the other posters.   Where are you Westie, or SDGustie?

I'm still around...just read more than post.  I probably could do it.  If someone else really wants to, I'd default to them, but if no one else wants to run it, I will.

Pat Coleman - If you read this, can you open up a page for the MIAC Pick 'em (I don't know what we have to do to get a page open).

Also, does anyone have the last 3 years results (just to see how everyone has done in the past).

You can do it yourself, SD Gusties. Just go out to the West Region page (one step outward on this tree) and hit "New Topic".

Full disclosure: I asked Pat to create a pick 'em room for the CCIW, and he gave me the same "do it yourself!" speech I'm giving you. Remember, he's ultra-busy this time of year due to the D3 football playoffs, so he doesn't make the rounds of the various D3 basketball rooms as frequently as he usually does.

Good ups SD Gusties!  If you click on BethelGuy's profile I think his email address is listed.  Then, you can email him offline & he'll hook you up with the essentials for running the pickems.  Or, I'm guessing he's still reading & occasionally posting, so if your email address is valid he'll get in touch.  Otherwise, post again & let me know, & I'll check to see if I have might have his address.

In one of my earlier posts today I copied the results of BG's Pickem results from last year on the board.

Thanks

I figured that's all I had to do, but I wasn't sure.  Thanks for the help.

Drake - When a football team who finished the regular season with a losing record gets to the state title game (RE: making me work the morning after Thanksgiving rather than getting a 4 day weekend), I think that qualifies me for cranky. Just in case tjones33 is as bad with vocab as he is with spelling, here's the definition  :-*

1.   Having a bad disposition; peevish.
2.   Having eccentric ways; odd.
3.   Full of bends and turns; crooked: a cranky mountain road.
4.   Working unpredictably; erratic: a cranky old truck.
5.   Rickety; loose.

Life's bad

I have to miss part of MNF to work
My working Friday may keep me away from cheering against SJU football in person this Saturday
It will definitely keep me away from the girls Gustie tourney this weekend
I had Mike and Ike's and Dew for lunch
I lost an important fantasy football game yesterday

(Life is good, I just like complaining. I'm trying to follow Reusse's lead here :) )
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Drake - From what I was told Greg Koba had problems with his knees which were going to cause him to miss most of the season and possibly require surgery.

If anyone goes to the Macalester vs. Stout game tonight please post a recap for us busy bees.

In regards to the Ike Rose discussion, he is ABSOLUTELY capable of 15 and 15 a game. But, as many pointed out, he is inconsistent. Its all mental right now-thats what is keeping Rosefelt from flat out dominating this league. Even you UST haters have to concede he is the most athletic post in the conference and, for lack of better wording, the most gifted. He is long, quick and agile, with the tools to be an All American. That cannot be said about any other post in the league.
For now, he floats in and out of games, becomes preoccupied with the wrong things, and succumbs to the pressure of proving his "D1 Talent"-be that through forcing shots, or playing out of control on the defensive end. At least that was the case last year, hopefully it will be different as this season progresses. It would be nice for the Kalamazoo game to be more than just the 2005 version of his game at Bethel last year.

I see him putting it together this year, and start to control games the way he is capable of doing. Fritz and Tauer have made a point to get after him about the way he conducts himself on the court, and his mental approach to the game. I dont see them letting what happened to him last year continue this season.

i like UST one of my favorite teams...my problem with ike is he plays soft...if he would play tough he would have no problem gettin that 15 and 15...heck he could do better than that...i actually wish he would have great games in every game except when they play carleton of course

WW....what's your beef about Ohme? You say he gets too much hype, but the fact is, and I have a great number of coaching buddies that agree with me, say he is one of the best, if not THEE best guard in the MIAC.

I'm not saying he's Rick Mount, but the kid is like a coach on the floor and gets everybody involved in the offense. Now with Leiser on board, he'll be even better. I saw the box score from the Johnnies game the other night, and I agree, perhaps he didn't shoot the best, but I think he had 7 or 8 assists.   ;)

funbb - I don't have any beef. He's definitely talented. However, he shot 38% and 30% from deep last season and turned the ball over almost 4 times a game. Those are disappointing numbers for someone who you claim to be the best guard in the league. Maybe he IS the best guard and last year was his equivalent to Melo's sophomore season - the link to his freshman year doesn't work on the SJU site, so it's hard to tell if those are typical numbers or if he had a down season. However, someone did post they have been similar since his HS days...

For comparison, it seems that everyone agrees that Eckhoff is off to a bit of a slow start this season. He's shooting 40% and 30% from deep. Ohme shot worse than that for a full year. I'd compare turnovers, but the CC site has Eckhoff listed as 22 which I can't believe is right.

I want to see Ohme shoot better and cut down on his TOs before I annoint him anything more than the best guard on his team. I'm not sure that'll even ring true once Westman gets his feet under him...

I agree with Ike's ability to average 15 and 15. He's a monster of a matchup, when he's playing well. That's the key, though. When he just floats, he has about as much impact as Muenchow did. IF Fritz can coax him into playing well consistantly, there isn't anyone in the league that can matchup with him or beat UST.

Wonka:  when the ball is in his hands as much as it is, 4 TO's a game is not that bad. Hell, Grier had 7 TO's the other night vs NDSU....but he's considered pretty decent isn't he?!!!   ;)
