Drake, common misconception, but Tommy Fritz is not related to Coach Fritz.

The only recent case of nepotism worse than Saul Smiths hiring was the Swiggum "no call". Heinous.  ;D

Hunh, I never knew that.  Oh well, as one of my least liked musical acts, Meatloaf, from the 80s once sang - "two out of three ain't bad."  How did anyone like that guy??

funbb - If Saul is twice as good at recruiting as he was at playing, he'll still be the worst in the Big Ten. Dude could have been the worst starting PG the SEC has ever seen, with the fact his dad was the coach only adding fuel to the fire. I was a bit of a Kentucky fan growing (I was born at Fort Knox), but I haven't cheered for them since he first started getting time.
that made me chuckle.

it also made me curious about father/son combos (coach/coach, coach/player, player/player, etc)...what son's have been disappointments and which have capitalized on their genetics? Any MIAC legends?

Ewing Jr. seems to be holding his own, but has some big shoes to fill.
Walton Jr. is trying to make daddy proud.

One success I know for sure is Mario Chalmers. his dad was his HS coach, and is an assistant at Kansas.

These are just the one's that popped into my head right away.

Drake - Here's one for you with a Gophs and T-Wolves connection:  Bill and Eric Musselman.       http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:oT3v8rTHccEJ:aol.nba.com/coachfile/eric_musselman/+musselman&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=us

here are some kentucky 1999 stats so everyone can take a look at good ol Saul stats...personally i have no problem with Saul being on the staff...he is a recognizable face to many people so atleast when the gophers go to recruit players everyone wont be looking at him and sayin who the heck is that recruiter. he is also young and will have an easy time relating to kids, but i wasnt a big fan of his play as a player either.

you officially have the coolest picture now...now im hungry for a tripple stack of juicy beefy goodness which makes my mouth water like the mighty mississippi...yummy

i can feel the greasy goodness from the first bite of a tripple burger running down my chin and all over my hands

CMob, you're an enigma wrapped inside a riddle enfolded within a mystery. How anyone can butcher the word "triple" on a daily basis, yet master a word like "Mississippi" as easily as if he was a nerdlet at a spelling bee, completely escapes me. You are one of a kind, my skate-wearing friend. ;)

Thanks Drake, I figured you would enjoy that. I suspect most of the other posters have not been introduced to J. Wellington Wimpy!

I'm waiting for Drake to swap out Wimpy in favor of Alice the Goon.

Mobster....with an abundance of Wendy's franchises, you'll have no problem loading up on triple burgers which will provide a great supply of grease for those old skates of yours!

Be careful in LA....when those women out there find out the true celebrity you really are, your name/fame will far exceed Kobe!!

Go west young man.....and enjoy!!!

Greg - I'm too much of a "wimp" to take on the persona of Alice the Goon, or for that matter, Alice in Wonderland & definitely not former heavy metal/alt rock band -  Alice in Chains.   ;D

I have no problem with Tubby's kid being on the staff. As WW stated, I'm sure getting the job was easy for him, but the kid didn't need to be much more than an average pg at Kentucky because of the studs he played with.

A prime example of recruiting that I hope will change: Monson didn't even so much as sniff Isaiah Dahlman from Braham, who is now at Michigan State. Izzo's final recruiting pitch: Dahlman shows up one wintry morning to do a standard before school shoot around, and he notices an unusual car in the parking lot. None other than Tom Izzo himself was in the Braham HS parking lot at 6am to open the gym for Dahlman and take in a shoot around. While Monson was probably turning over to the cooler side of the pillow, Izzo was rebounding for his future shooting guard. Honestly, who just completely ignores the best player in the state??

I think landing Tubby was the start to the U keeping the top kids in the state, much like with Brewster in football. He already got the stud linebacker from Champlin Park to commit, and Michael Floyd was seen wearing a Gophers sweatshirt at the first week of spring practices. Floyd can go wherever he wants, so if Brewster gets him, Go Gophers!

6'9" Bryce Fazekas of Park Rapids has committed to U of Mary  in Bismarck. Sounds like quite a recruiting class for Mary. Fazekas is going to need to get alot stronger to be competitive in the NSIC.

I know CORD was looking at him. I will dig back in earlier posts. I know Local had some other information on him. (edit: Local's info had him going to Bemidji St. or walking on at UND or NDSU)
