6'5" Wing Eric Lien from the Spuds has committed to CORD. Should be more in the Fool-Em tomorrow.

MSU-Moorhead get another area recruit as D-G-F's Jake Driscoll commits . The Co-MVP of the Heart of Lakes conference joins Andrew VanHavermaet the other Co-MVP at MSUM. So much for a couple years of seasoning at Wahpeton Science!

Thanks for the updates Sum!  It'll be interesting to see how Driscoll does.  No doubt about it he's an excellent player, but I still think his size & relative lack of quickness will be a handicap, even at D2.  Depending on how transfers or signings may, or may not play out, I might get a chance to take in a few NSIC games next year, & see young Driscoll & th MSUM Dragons.  How the heck did they come up with the name Dragons??  I don't think dragons roamed that particular part of the tundra back in the prehistoric day.

On the MIAC front I have no additional news nuggets to report as my sources are starting to dry up (aka graduate, retire, shuffle off into the sunset etc.  ;)).   However, the unofficial, "soft" D3 signing day is May 1st so we may start to hear a little more news around that time.  Where's Local at anyway?

Whew, good to hear from you Drake. I was afraid I was left alone in here!

I concur with your thoughts on Driscoll. I would think given VanHavermaet's size he would have a better shot at making an impact than Driscoll. I have to believe both will redshirt next year!

well folks im back from LA

The only thing bigger than the tripple burgers in LA are the...

well you get the drift  :o

it was really tough roller skating through those gosh darn rocky mouthains i'll tell ya that much right now...but to roller skate down the coast line in my roller skating spandex was grand...until i had a wheel lock up on me because a sea shell got locked up in there and cause me to spill over the gaurd rail and into the ocean where a manitee swam me to safety

bottom line is i drove through compton and i think that makes me kinda like dr. dre

overall assessment....LA is over rated...except for the tripple burger factor of course

3 days till i leave for Phoenix...i will have another city assessment for  you then too

I think things will be alot different for Driscoll next. He isn't going to be playing the guys that are 3 inches taller than him. I remember going to a MSUM vs. Bemidji State game a couple years ago and those could flat out shoot. Does Driscoll have the ability to be a dead three point shooter?

Word on the street according to the Marshall Independent is that DeRock is leaving Hamline and transfering to SMSU. He will redshirt and then start playing after that.

Kind of ironic that Wohler got Weiner from SMSU when he got the job and now DeRock is leaving to go there. Personally I think that Stemen gets the better end of the deal.

This transfer was brought up here a  couple of weeks ago. I saw a blurb in the STRIB this morning that confirmed this as well!

Well from what I heard it was down to SJU and SCSU and the Huskies offered a FULL RIDE...according to guys I spoke with Ortmann was almost apologetic about not going to SJU...

But all is not lost, a little birdy told me that Nate Birr of St. Thomas Academy is visiting soon and that a fine 6"5" P/W from Souix Falls committed to SJU and might bring a friend currently at Morningside...also some international help from Bosnia might show up in Collegeville in the near future...the other guy to watch out for next year will be Michael Braun...from Hopkins, probably should have played more this past year but will definitely be a contributor next year.

VOJ, Is the 6'5" winger a high schooler or a college transfer? Who got the Bosnia recruiting assignment Foges or Mckenzie?

From the sounds of it so far, the NSIC is winning this year's battle of the premier high school recruits.  The Eric Lien & Karl Olson announcement for the Cobbs appear to be pretty decent pick ups, but I still haven't heard about any official, top shelf MIAC recruits yet.

VOJ – Nate Birr from St. Thomas Academy reminds me a lot of his older brother Jason Birr who plays at Concordia –StP.  He's a tall, rangy, good athlete & excellent defender, but not much of an offensive threat.  It'll be interesting to see how much Michael Braun develops. His talent was hidden on some ridiculously talented Hopkins teams. A little birdy told me that the Johnnies have another offensive threat waiting in the Red Wing to emerge.   ;)

Cmob – nice LA report, & I'm looking forward to your report from Phoenix.  :D  I'm sure Phoenix will have a nice allotment of triple burgers, but I'm guessing you'll fare better hanging out at the local taquerias & chowing down on a delicious taco or burrito or two.   Unfortunately I couldn't find it, but I was going to post an old school slow jam from an R&B master – Isaac Hayes (singer of the Shaft theme, etc.) & his version of "By the Time I get to Phoenix."

Here's a snippet for you.  Click on the link & scroll down to the song title.

Mebbe one reason his song isn't listed on YouTube is that his version is so dang long!  By the time the song ends, spring semester potentially would have ended & you could have roller skated to PHX.  ;) ;D

The Bemidji Pioneer posted the following list of commitments a few weeks ago of those participating in the Minnesota Coaches Association all-star games (the only listed MIAC commitment was Eric Hugoson of Fairmont heading to Bethel):

Players from the All-Star series who have signed a National Letter of Intent or have verbally committed to play college athletics at the NCAA Division I level are Justin Stommes (Rocori, Eastern Kentucky), Alex Rubin (Robbinsdale Armstrong, Illinois State), Mbakwe (St. Bernard's, Marquette), Al Nolen, Jr. (Minneapolis Henry, Minnesota), Eric Carlson (Shakopee, North Dakota State), Zach Filzen (Northfield, Northern Arizona), Drew Lundberg (Owatonna, Northern Iowa), Dennis Williamson (Cooper, Utah State) and Noah Dahlman (Braham, Wofford). Playing DII athletics are Fairbanks (Cass Lake-Bena, Bemidji State), Elijah Blakesley (Maple River, MSU-Mankato), Preston Whitaker (St. Cloud Apollo, MSU-Mankato), Taylor Witt (Morris, St. Cloud State), Trent Carlson (Belle Plaine, Southwest Minnesota State), Matt Theis (Eden Valley-Watkins, St. Cloud State) and D.J. In addition Eric Hugoson of Fairmont will play at Bethel College and DeAngelo Brackins of International Falls will stay at home and play football at Rainey River Community College.
