Mebbe one reason his song isn't listed on YouTube is that his version is so dang long!  By the time the song ends, spring semester potentially would have ended & you could have roller skated to PHX.  ;) ;D

You mean he isn't rollerskating to PHX? ???

I think his skates are in his carry on luggage which also has wheels. Does that count?  ;)

Word on the street according to the Marshall Independent is that DeRock is leaving Hamline and transfering to SMSU. He will redshirt and then start playing after that.

Kind of ironic that Wohler got Weiner from SMSU when he got the job and now DeRock is leaving to go there. Personally I think that Stemen gets the better end of the deal.

This transfer was brought up here a  couple of weeks ago. I saw a blurb in the STRIB this morning that confirmed this as well!

Yes, the things we do for love.  He seemed a bit distracted this season.  Ya think??  The feet were in 651 but the head was in 507-land.  Next subject.
Is is March Madness yet?

VOJ, Is the 6'5" winger a high schooler or a college transfer? Who got the Bosnia recruiting assignment Foges or Mckenzie?

The 6'5 winger is a first year player to be not sure what the other players status(transfer from Morningside) will be but do know he is Perry Ford's son the former Augustana head coach...I think they sent Bruce Holmseth...he is fluent in the language....

By the way I see my karma is down another notch or two...all I have done in the past 3 weeks is provide recruiting info...Geez thanks fellas

QuoteWell from what I heard it was down to SJU and SCSU and the Huskies offered a FULL RIDE...according to guys I spoke with Ortmann was almost apologetic about not going to SJU...

VOJ,

Don't know where you heard your info from, but Ortmann getting a full-ride to SCSU is impossible. Being a D-2 school, they can't offer full-ride athletic scholarships. I had to do some research because one of the local kids I cover signed there to be a wide receiver next fall, and he said the most they can cover is half your tuition. I could be wrong about Ortmann, but regardless, that's a tough loss for the Johnnies. I saw him in the state tournament, and he'll be a solid college player.

As long as surfer boy Cal Ecker isn't in this league, I'll call it cool. I hadn't seen him in years but saw him play recently and was reminded just how much he bugged me.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

TH4L - Unless the rules have changed you definitely can get a full ride offer at the Division 2 level.  SCSU has 10 scholarships to offer, which is the maximum that can be offered at the Division 2 level.  Most other D2 schools in the NSIC and the now defunct NCC have about 6-8.

The coaches can decide to offer someone a full scholarship which covers tuition and room and board, or they can break it up and split say 3 players between one full scholarship.  Basically you can get from $1.00 all the way up to a full ride.

TH4L- Local is correct in his statement regarding the D2 athletic scholarships.  The D2 coaches can pretty much split those scholies up however they feel would work best.  In fact, at the D1 level, "minor" sports such as baseball, tennis, etc. operate in much the same fashion.  The coaches are not given enough scholarship money to field a full team so they're often splitting the scholarships into, full, half & partial scholies.  I also posted about this several weeks ago when we were discussing the recruiting challenges of MIAC schools versus D2 schools.

And yeah Local, where's the scoop?  Inquiring minds need to know.  If our news level stays at the current level, it might be time to dig up another PSA to generate some board activity.   ;) I think we'd all rather have some news to chew on.

CMob – that looks like a nice little league in Bloomington.  You'll have to keep us updated on the league schedule.  Willy, funny comment on Mr. Ecker – the guy seemed to keep a perpetual tan.  It'll be interesting to see how closely Greg Sager follows our board, & see if your slight criticism of Cal Ecker elicits a comment defending the former North Park hooper.  ;D

It ain't me Voj.  Hang out on the football board, karma is usually plentiful over there, especially since you're a fan of the Big Red Johnnie machine.
In the meantime, +k for the road.  ;)

Local is right on as usual concerning the DII scholarship issue.
D1 has only full scholarships allowed (I believe it is 13 total per school)

DII schools are allowed by the NCAA to offer up to the equivalent of 10 full scholarships, so partial athletic scholarships can be offered at DII, allowing more than 10 athletes to get some financial help. SCSU does offer full scholarships to certain high level recruits.

Due to athletic department funding issues, many DII schools do not fully fund the 10 equivalent scholarships allowed by the NCAA., so Local"s 6-8 equivalent scholarship estimate for most schools is likely accurate. Many DII schools try to have athletes get as much academic or financial need aid as possible before kicking in athletic aid to help their athletic budgets.

As was indicated earlier, being "on scholarship" in DII may or may no equate into significant dollars. I've never know a parent, however, that would mention this. Their kid is always "on schlarship" as far as the reat of the world knows. For this reason, I always wonder why more kids don't explore non-athletic aid options at better academic D3 schools. My opinion is the the AAU culture today makes athletes feel as though they have not "made it" unless they get athletic aid.

Nice further support there PH.  Both the kid & parent can do the chest pumping & preening -- "yah, my son/yeah I'm on scholie to Bumfunk U"....

A few years ago I heard of a kid that was offered a lousy, 500.00 partial athletic scholarship to a small D2 school in northern MN.  My thoughts & that of the player's sib- "are they freaking nuts?!?"

Any recruiting news Phoops?

papa, Agree 100%. We discussed this same thing a few pages back. I believe it turns into an ego thing, being able to say you got a "scholi" to school X.

Kids & parents look at that rather than the long term implications of there school choice.
