Well, if I'm 34, you can do the math. I'm just talking from having met him and spoken to him at length.

Well, I guess I read your post wrong, which won't be the first or last time that happens.   I thought you were questioning my math abilities (such as they are) when I initially said he must be around 36-37 years old.   ;)

Funny how in AS's in-depth look at athletes that golf didn't even make the list, yet the world's best athlete is a golfer. You can try to argue all you want, but Tiger Woods is the best athlete there is.... period! The guy will win 25+ major tournaments before his career is over, and he just won the PGA despite his swing not being at his "best" and four rounds in a heat index of 110+. Plus, even though you never see him with his shirt off, he's built like a middle linebacker.

I would say that football and basketball players make for the best athletes, but golf should be in that category too. It's not rigorous like some of the contact sports, but it's probably the greatest mental challenge that sports can provide.

TommieHoops4Life

One thing I left out. I saw a ridiculous graphic on ESPN the other night about the 15 golfers this year that all made the cut in the four majors. Tiger was the only one on that list to finish at a total score of under par for 16 major rounds (4 tourneys, 4 rounds). He was at -1 total, the next closest was Justin Rose at +15. Stupifying.

It was just a time filler at work.

I defintely missed some key sports.  I think professional fighters/boxers would score very high on this list.

I think Tiger is one of the few exceptions.  If you take a look at the sport as a whole, how many quality athletes has it produced?
Ask yourself the same question for basketball and football.

Just to add to the Hamline vacancy, I heard it from a trustworthy source tonight that the gentlemen from SUNY was offered the job earlier today.  No word on whether or not he accepted.

Max has definitely taken an interesting journey in the past few months.  In the spring he committed to transferring to Northwestern, after being figuring out Bethel was not the place for him.  Then a few months or weeks later changes his mind again.   Perhaps he felt there were too many New Life Academy players on Northwestern already.  From what I've heard, Bethel was very tough, if not clearly the best in the summer league down at Jefferson.

--------
How can Tiger Woods be considered the greatest athlete?  Let's put him up against a Lebron James, Reggie Bush or Ladanian Tomlinson in any active sport and see how he does.  Golf is clearly a very advanced technical game with a large mental aspect.  But according to ESPN, Tiger is "Now", so who can argue with that title?

i like the list...a few things i would change...i would put soccer followed by baseball at the top of the cordination category...running full speed while keeping a ball on your feet like a yo-yo is very difficult...baseball is always known as the eye hand cordination sport with batting and all and some of the plays they make in the field are insain running one way and throwing the opposite while making a perfect throw...i would also put baseball at the top of the reflex category...hitting a 100mph fastball is known to be the toughest thing to do in all sports...while in hockey often times the puck is right on their stick and players just throw their bodys and sticks in the way to try to deflect the shot...however if you were just looking at the goalie part of it there would be a solid arguement but they are only 1 of 6 players for a team on the ice...i would move hockey down to the middle of the pack...finally...im confused how water polo didnt finish last in the jumping category when they are swimming in what seems like a bottomless pool...else i like the list it is solid

tiger woods is the best athlete at his sport hands down...best all around athlete?? highly doubt it...allen iverson was one of  top ranked qbs in the nation as a high schooler and im sure he would have been great...there are other athletes with stories like this as well...i love golf but can you name 10 golfers off the top of your head in 30 seconds that you think could even run in a race long or short distance without pulling a hammy or sucking major wind...most of them seem to have little pot bellys to me

Funny how TH4L argues Tiger is the best athlete, but the guy many consider the second best golfer in the world has man boobs and has no business in this discussion. That's enough to tell me golf was correctly left off snowman's list.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I figure all that treading water must give them some solid leg strength.

Man boobs aside, list part 2 is now available.  Including Golf and Boxing and mafia's comments.  basketball still wins!  And unlike certain NBA officials, I have nothing invested in the outcome of the study.

Also doing this research I have a related, but far more entertaining question.

Which women's sports produce the best-looking athletes?

And for the purposes of this study, cheerleading is a sport.  Enjoy your research!  ;)

*Without exhaustive research I'd go with tennis, volleyball, swimming, & track.

*  New MIAC website is up.  I haven't had a chance to dig around in it, but I like how it looks so far.

Former University of St. Thomas and Cretin-Derham Hall basketball star Sean Sweeney, an astute evaluator of talent, will be named director of men's basketball operations for the University of Evansville.
