I agree that it's a tough going for the Johnnies out of the gates but 0-4??? They will surely handle SMU with no problems. After that, they should beat Gustavus because I think Brink will outplay Whitwer and Carleton  because they don't have enough "D" to stop Leiser Schwartz and Brink. They will Bethel a run for their money down the stretch but either way the game goes, this is the conference championship preview.Someone's got to beat them Bethel. I find it nearly impossible to run the table in this conference. Maybe the Pipers will do it ;). The one set back for St. John's is they lack in size right now because the Fogt kid is hurt(anyone know for how long?)

Pre Season Picks:

11. St. Mary's- Nice freshman class but don't have much for upper classmen. Sweeney and Carr just won't cut it

Not much for upper classmen, huh??? Hmm...could you be forgetting about the twins, Rohr, and DC?

I have seen the cards play enough in years past to understand why people are picking them to finish basically last. However, I expect this year to be much different  with a talented group of freshmen and a good group of upperclassman. It's the most unselfish group I have seen in a long time. Most people think the cards have a key loss with Brensley graduating, but I'd say it's more of a blessing.

Did the Schafer twins transfer to SMU this summer?  ;D

HA HA...that was ALMOST clever!!!

and the season is finally here...some tough matchups to watch tonight

Augsburg against an improved Pacific Lutheran team in Portland, Oregon
Concordia plays at Morris, which should be a good game to see if Concordia can contend, or if they'll pretend
Mac against River Falls in a game that could see each team in the 80's+
Olaf gets Buena Vista at home in a trap game...those boys can play

there are some more intriguing matchups tomorrow including some posters' beloved Cards at the Warriors

What does the verb Bethel mean?

Here are my thought's on the J's conference start:

CORD @ home - Should be a win, but, If you put Brink on Linz, who guards Baldwin? Cobbs inside game could give the J's trouble.

@SMU - The J's have lost the last two years at SMU with better teams than this one! This is Trewick's super bowl!

CAR @ home - Should be a win, but, the 1-2 punch of Zorro and Drake present matchup problems for the J's. CAR played the J's very tough at Collegeville late last year 65-60 was the final.

GAC @ home - nuff said. Gusties are too athletic all the way around. Two blow out losses last year at Collegeville need to be avenged.

J's playing a bunch of frosh will take some lumps early!  ;)

Sorry about that PTP the operative missing word in that was "give".

suman, you may very well be right in your prognosis. As usual this conference is will be very tight in the 2-6 finishers and there is really no such thing as an upset (outside of Bethel). I was able to see the Johnnies against CSP and they looked stellar. Obviously, it's tough not to like 17-22 from the floor for Brink. Leiser didn't look great but that's all the more reason they could have beat a very explosive D2 team in CSP. I would hardly consider Schwartz a frosh. He looked like a season vet, keeping them in that game down the stretch with some clutch 3's. Like all premonitions sumander, only time will tell.

SMU @ Winona St. tomorrow...Upset time!  :D

you jerk...i only like you on mondays wednesdays and sundays from now on  :)

BEWARE...THE DRUNKEN SCONNIES HAVE ARRIVED
thanks for the warning of the devestation the drunken sconnies may have planned for my roller skates...2 years ago they tried to put gum on my wheels to make me stick to the pavement...3 years ago in madison they tried dropping a bag full of marbles on the pavement to make me fall...4 years ago here they tried smearing vasoline across the sidewalk to make me slip but that didnt work because they couldnt contain themselves...when i went rolling by they were all smearing vasoline on each other and having flex offs...5 years ago in madison they simply tried to tackle me and rip them off but i was way to nimble and quick on my skates and i made them look like defenses trying to tackle barry sanders and adrian peterson...i do not expect the Drunken Sconnies to try to spill beer on my roller skates though...beer is much too precious to them as beer is not only their only source of food besides cheese and brats but it is also their currency...thanks to the warning i am expecting them to throw water ballons at my wheels to try to rust them to bring me to a screetching halt...i am going to have to wear my extra tight spandex outfit to make myself more aero dynamic for this one...i am hoping for proper wind speed and humidity in the air as well...these will all factor into my ability to dodge these water balloons i may be attacked with...i am very confident i will survive another attack by the Drunken Sconnies

if i do not survive this attack i will sign off by saying...

Great GOOGLY  OOOGLY OOOGLY OOOGLY BABY....GOOOOOOGS!!!

and i also want my roller skates to be inshrined in the d3hoop.com hall of fame...that is if someone is daring enough to try to get them back from the Drunken Sconnies...everyone can eat juicy tripple burgers during this ceremony

i like beans and i love boombalahties

Quincey Henderson 2 pts
Jonte Flowers 4 pts
John Smith 14 pts

The three big guns from last year didn't do much in their probably 10 minutes of playing time.  Soph. David Johnson scored 31 and  Jr. Josh Korth had 20

We'll see if Mary's can give them a better game though!!

river falls beats macalester tonight  75-69.  conboy had a big game (29 and 11), but mac just doesn't have much after him and abe.  they (mac) really struggled to score in the second half (only 25 points).  river falls had a very balanced attack, with four guys in double figures.

Final:  St. Thomas 73  Otterbein (OH) 67

St. Thomas was led in scoring by Joe Scott with 23 points, Tyler Nicolai with 10 points and Teddy Archer with 9 points.

Tommies shot 63% from the floor to win this game compared to only 42% shooting for Otterbein who won the rebound battle.

#8 Wooster beat Farmingdale State (NY) 106-81 in the second game tonight so St. Thomas will play Wooster in the tourney championship game tomorrow night.

Concordia gets beat by 13 by Morris in a game that wasn't as close as the score...Linz has 25 and 7 and was 11-11 from the floor...if only he could get some help!!!

Tuma already gets the boot and only plays 9 minutes! VERY interesting. I think I remember someone saying this would have to happen in order for them to do well ;D. Good for them and congrats to Joe Scott on the big opening night as a Tommie. I see they're going a little bit smaller with Shimek, McCoy and .Halvorsen all coming off the bench. Always nice to get that first one but let's see how they do against Wooster :D
