Conference play starts Wednesday...I am pretty excited about it...as for re-doing the conference picks...we could but remember the basketball season in the MIAC is a 10k, not a 40 yard sprint...I think the Tommies may achieve a better spot than 5th or 4th in conference based on their win over Winona State, but remember its just one game, albeit a great win for the Toms

Trust everyone had a good Thanksgiving, and are ready to get into the swing of a new conference season for a few weeks before we take the annual holiday slowdown. 

Once again a nice job by the Tommies in the huge upset over Winona State on Saturday.  I hope they don't take the luster off the win as they prepare to run through the gauntlet for a final time this early part of the season.  Coach Fritz may be a great coach, but as a scheduler he must be a masochist.  That, or he belongs to the school of thought – "that which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger."    A coaching staff in the northern metro area might do well to at least take a look at the Tommies manual on "how to build a successful basketball program."  Of course fair play might be - perhaps the new Tommies football coach could look to the other school to see how to build a successful football program. 

Last Saturday the Tommies were down in Winona to play at Winona State, came back home to St. Paul for a couple of days; turn around & go back to Winona to play SMU this Wednesday night; back home & then return on Saturday to play in UW-LAX in La Crosse.  This is on top of the trip they took to Ohio for the season opener in the always tough Wooster tournament. Brutal!

Speaking of schedules, here's how the MIAC looks so far in non conference play - (14-20).  Our WIAC neighbors to the east are (24-8), & the IIAC is (13-14) in non conference play.  I'd try to give some props to the upstart UMAC conference, but they can't even manage to keep their website updated.  So as far as I know, UM-Morris lost to both Concordia & Bethel, & not the other way around.

Rome wasn't built in a day award - Shout-out to the Cobbs for improving on their non-conference record from a year ago.    Last year they were winless in nonconference action, but this year they broke through & beat Luther.  Looking at their schedule that may be the only non-conference win they'll pick up.  They've got one more NC game & that's another game against Moorhead State in a couple of weeks.

slower day on the board than I thought...I am sure it will heat up over the next few days...so what is the most intriguing matchup of night 1 of the season...other than the J's vs Cobbs...I think its Carleton vs Augs...there are varying opinions on both teams, plus its a matchup of contrasting styles...
