I plan on going to the Crown vs. Bethel tomorrow and then the Carleton vs. Augsburg game on Wednesday. I thought Augsburg would be stronger after watching them in early scrimmages. Now that conference play is starting it will be interesting to see what happens. It seems like a lot of learning is taking place of the part of players and coaches.

slower day on the board than I thought...I am sure it will heat up over the next few days...so what is the most intriguing matchup of night 1 of the season...other than the J's vs Cobbs...I think its Carleton vs Augs...there are varying opinions on both teams, plus its a matchup of contrasting styles...

Anyone else?

VOJ, I would agree with you on this one. I think it's a no brainer if it's at CAR, but Auggie Tech at home is a different story.

With regard to SJU and CORD. I think the Brink v. Linz match up is going to be a classic. As Mose said it probabaly won't decide the game but should be fun to watch!

It's football season, with a bleak hoops outlook and home games at St. Kate's to look forward to.  Give me a few more days to ease into the hoops season!!

Speaking of...what is the facility at St. Kate's like?  I have never been there but obviously we will play there against Mac this year...

Based on the scrimmage I attended there, the seating capacity at St. Kates will be the smallest in the league and capacity will be similar to the old "cage", although seating is a little further away from the floor. The players sit on one side of the floor and spectators sit across from the teams. There are more rows of bleachers on the spectator side of the floor versus the "cage", but no seating on the ends, so it apprears to work out to a similar seating capacity. The gym floor appears to be in excellent shape, so I suspect it was recently updated. The basketball gym at St. Kates is on the second floor of a relatively modern athletic facility (pool is on first level). My biggest concern is the parking question. Virtually all the parking within a reasonable walking distance is marked as requiring a campus permit. I'm hoping they don't enforce this too tightly on game nights (ie. St. Thomas).

I look for a good match up tomorrow between MAC and the Gusties tomorrow night. MAC's last outing (come from behind overtime victory over Pomona) was encouraging. MAC has not played well against well against disciplined teams like the teams Hanson typically puts on the floor, however, so it will be interesting to see how this MAC team handles the conference opener on the road.

I can back up just about everything papahoops said about the facilities at St. Kates. The only thing I might add is the toilets are NOT heavy duty power flushers :-[

Parking is always a huge pain there. I seem to recall walking almost 2 miles (or so it seemed, in the winter cold) last winter to watch a game. The GAC/Kitties womens game last year was not a big game at all...and seating was still tight. Good luck finding a seat when Mac plays anyone with fans who care.

I believe the court is ringed by a top floor track, much like Mac's old place. I expect this to be lined with spectators most games. I'm also curious to see whether St. Kates brings in baseline bleachers this season or if they go Bethel football style and pack people 4-deep standing around the court.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Gophers playing well on the road...good to see, Tubby will have them on the bubble this year if they win all the games they are supposed to win and 8 in the Big 10...

Fellas...thanks for the head-ups on St. Kate's gym...sounds like a place where things could get rocking...gotta love that!

Impending train wreck?  :o  Bethel had a 17 point lead but now with 6 minutes left, the Royals are up 67-63 over Crown.

Crown hits a 3, Bethel still up 82-79. 21 seconds seconds left in the game. Bethel ball.

man! i know Crown is much improved from last year and they took Bethel to the wire at home last year, but Bethel has another close game...when they start playing better teams they won't win these games...

I interviewed Tim Madson from Bethel and Coach High from Crown following the game. I got a bunch of action shots too. I'll post these on Preps later this evening. Coach High was pleased with his team and talked about how well his conference is performing in general.

My thoughts exactly.  They need to seriously pick it up for the miac schedule otherwise they are in for a long season.
