who are schwartz and carr?  i don't have time to either search team websites or sift back through the d3posts.  appreciate the help.

also, there are tons of good freshman this year.  previously it seems almost a default award to hand out the all-freshmen team.  essentially whoever played more than 10 minutes a game gets a spot.  of course there were exceptions like linz, conboy, and johnson.  but, it has never been the case since i've been watching that there are this many legitimate contenders.  After Linz the next three highest scorers on concordia's roster are freshman!
i really want to see nicholai play.

With the exception of Linz & Ryan Johnson, the other seniors that played the past 3 years are gone - Boike, Citterman, Ganab, Meischner, etc.  What's happening in Memorial Auditorium?

Willy Wonka

In the more things change, the more things stay the same category...

...the Gusties are winning with defense and a balanced offense. Wittwer, who some had pegged as the potential POY, is back to shooting very few times and stuffing the stat sheet elsewhere. Paulson and Van Sickle seem to have developed nicely, especially for as much as Drake was whining about their playing time last year  :-*

In unrelated news, Schnettler was signed to play with the Rochester Fire a few months back. It's basically the equivalent to the Minneapolis Rip Knees. Or was. The franchise folded after its first game when the "owner" disappeared and never paid anyone's salary. The Post Bulletin gave it front page coverage for about a week straight and it seems like a huge debacle.

It's roughly the sixth failed professional basketball team in Rochester's history...including the Rochester Flyers, despite Wonka's best attempt to keep things rolling as the ball boy circa 1991.

Anyone know where Schnettler ended up?
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

UST_LBOW

Schnettler will be playing in Ultimate Hoops and the Brooklyn Center League on my squad.  He will be student teaching in the spring.  He's also coaching at Edina right now.

Next fall he is planning on trying to play again either here or maybe Australia.  He hasn't given up yet.  I feel bad for him because he is as good as I have ever seen him.  Scary thought I know.

On another note, the MAC-UST game was something else.  Conboy owned  UST and was as good as I've seen him.  He probably could have had 40 points if he wanted.  It was terrible watching this.  UST didn't play very good defense and their help D was non existent.  He's probably happy Ike wasn't there to make his life miserable like the last 3 years.  I only saw his shot blocked once compared with the last few meetings when at least half his shots were blocked or altered in the post.

Abe didn't play all that well, not that he played bad but not the best I've seen him. He got past his guy half a dozen times and dropped nice passes to Conboy or that freshman for easy layups.  That's what beat UST right there.   He was the difference maker I think in the game, especially in the first half.

Whiich MIAC player most resembles these past & present NBA players?  Bonus points if you can provide visual evidence.  (Or, in other words I tried, but I couldn't find a photo  ;) )

- You're right, Van Sickle is coming along nicely, but I think we all expected that he would.  But, as a somewhat touted D1 recruit, I expected Paulson to get tick his freshman year, not his sophomore year.  Find Paulson's photo for me.   ;D

Too bad Bow beat me to the punch.  I was going to suggest a story exchange.  I would have found out about Schnettler & you could have told us the story behind the disappearance of the mysterious Chris Hasse.  8)

Bow - +k for stepping up & doing an honest recap of the MAC-UST game.  Seems the other Tommies ahem - Mose went into seclusion.  The loss to MAC makes it all the more incredible that the Tommies went on the road & upset Winona State and Big John Smith.  But in fairness to the Tommies, I think the grind of a brutal, early season schedule was finally starting to catch up with this fairly young club.  With what they've gone through so far, I think they'll demonstrate their resilience & they'll be just fine.

That being said, Conboy is really playing well right now.  As a senior, I think he may be starting to get the benefit of the doubt on some of those cheap offensive fouls he used to pick up in the past.  Plus, he's learning how not to do the "bull in the china shop" routine as much & pass out of some double teams.  The other night the SMU guards did a decent job of doubling down on D & digging at the ball when he had it in his hands which forced him to the FT line.  Yet he still had 29 points! He's obviously playing at a high confidence & performance level.

Skibbity - close, in fact very close, but no cigar. Wait until the Gusties bring their show to your town.   ;D

PTPer35

Great summaries on the Bethel-Carleton game from TH4L, Bethel34, and Drake, but I have to reiterate, Madsen was filthy. When Drake pulled up from the baseline for the potential game winner I got a little Deja Vu   from the one he hit 2 years ago to preserve the eventual 17 game win streak. I should mention that Bethel almost didn't need the overtime as Madsen sank a 15 ft runner about half a second after regulation ended.

Also like to point out the Royals were nearly flawless in OT on offense (5-5 FG, 2-2 3PT, 7-8FT) and I was very impressed by the defensive effort they showed. Drake missed an open lay up early in OT but all the other shots were challenged if not altered. Rosett and Biewen were the lone bright spots offensively with Roset having a quiet 21. The Bethel coaches were yelling out 'shooter' whenever Biewen was near the ball but it didn't matter as his quick release allowed him to get his shots.

I'm not about to head to Mankato to watch the Carls play after all this exciting conference action..any good games going down in the cities coming up?

PTPer35 has a point about the Bethel/Carleton game. It almost didn't go to overtime because the Royals set up the infamous Bryce Drew play from when Valparaiso got a huge upset in the NCAAs a few years back. Inbounds pass was launched from the baseline, and the ball came loose to Madson on the right wing after a collision. His shot inside the 3-pt line went in, but it was after the buzzer and the refs made the right call. It was a nice try though!

UST up 36-32 with just under 2 to go in the half...
