good guys?  scholastica's not the big city power stealing coaches from national powers and having the best championship history and nba players to their credit.  Scholastica is barely co-ed--(basically, if you're male at css, you're on the team).  ;D

"Stealing coaches"? ???

And I can't think of a better recruiting tool for a men's basketball coach to have than to be able to tell a prospect that the female:male ratio at the coach's school is 69:31. If I were a 17-year-old male, I'd have visions of the school being like the Castle Anthrax, only with a cupola instead of a grail-shaped beacon. :D
I was joking of course about coach stealing---

---make the ratio 99:1 and it still won't draw any recruits unless that 1 happens to be a looker  ;D  I believe this is the consensus reason why Gustavus has had so much success recruiting.

on the football side of recruting, I've read and heard about gagliardi talking about bennies with recruits.

Uh, the "1" in 99:1 is a guy, not a female.

Oh, man, I can't wait for Willy to wade in on that particular assertion. :D

For decades, North Park football coaches took prospects into the dining hall during campus tours so that they could get a gander at the bevy of attractive Swedish-American coeds who attend NPU. It's both a running joke (much like the football team itself has been) and a poorly-kept secret. When you have the worst football facilities in the conference (although that's now been rectified) and a tradition of continuous losing that stretches back four decades, I suppose that the boombalahty strategy is your best bet to land a prospect. ;) :D

Speaking of Johnnies, VOJ – what's the old adage – "pride goes before a fall."  This season in particular seems to demonstrate that you can't afford to take any teams lightly, not even schools from the UMAC.  I still say you better watch out for UM-Morris.  I'm sure AO or someone will be flaunting the final head to head results if they gain the overall W-L edge by the time January 2nd rolls around.  Right now it's not looking pretty for the remaining inter-league match ups unless we start putting the wood to the likes of Northwestern, Bethany Lutheran & Scholastica. It's a given the Dawgs better beat Presentation by a sizeable margin. :-\

I guarantee the J's will come out not taking Morris lightly...and I know they are spoiling for a W...

PI - Are you from New Ulm?  I was always told that Schells was a beer that only the locals could stomach - literally.    ;D

QuoteAO - How is Carleton beating Bethany Lutheran an ouch? They are now 7-1...Martin Luther was 0-6 and beat Olaf...that is an ouch.

PTPer, I believe ouch is an appropriate terms when your loyalties lie with the UMAC.

No, but I am German. I never had a Schell's until they saved Premimum. You can't beat a sampler pack of Schell's.

Even though I went to school just down the road and had a roomate from Sleepy Eye, I can't ever recall having a Schells.  That's how bad the rap on the beer was.   :-[

Our amatuer baseball team(town team) took a swing through southern minny a number of years ago. We stayed in New Ulm one night and picked up a keg of Schell's beer. If my memory serves me correctly the only thing good about it was the the price!! :D

Yes, it was cheap so you'd think it would be popular with college students on shoe string budgets.  That must tell you something there.  We upscaled and bought Old Milwaukee.

Drake - I'm in no way trying to steer the convo back to GAC. However, I'd much rather debate where Ike falls in the recent MIAC Pantheon, for example, than the merits (or demerits) of a non-starter on a winless team who appears to be a headcase.

Comprende? :)...

Cool, cool, cool.  I'm fine dropping the Carr discussion, although he still leads the Palmer opinion poll in best MIAC dunk I've seen so far this year.  The Archer post-dunk celebration, now that's a different story. :o 8)

But if we (you) can't talk about GAC, ahem - can we (YOU) talk about a former GAC hooper - Chris Hasse?    ;D ;) What happened, where did he go?
-----------------------

On to other news, I don't know who is more broken hearted -  the Scholastica basketball team after dropping the OT game to the Pipers last night, or the Scholastica SID or staff member who wrote the story. For example, at one point late in the game, a CSS player took off on a breakaway dunk, missed the basket & Hamline recovered the rebound.   :o In a bit of good news for him I can't remember the name of the player & I couldn't find it in the play-by-play.  :) Tough way to lose!

I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Finally had a chance to read up on the board a bit.

I would say the best "He doesn't fit their system but he fits ours" scenario in the MIAC is Abe Woldeslassie.  Remember he didn't fit Fritz system at UST so he came to MAC and WILL BE a back to back ALL MIAC player.  And he got to give Fritz the proverbial middle finger last week in the victory!

Good for Abe.

I would hope that they do not.  Morris beat pre-season #1 Bethel by 10, Crushed Concorida-Moorhead, and beat NAIA Jamestown College...

d3bballfollower

with very few games left before the break, I thought I might shed some light on some of the things that have happened so far this year...some we all know about and expected, and some we didn't...

Mac stands alone and the top, followed by Carleton and UST
Tom Conboy is the leading scorer in the conference at 26 ppg (also getting 9.9 boards a game)
Piper FY Eric Clute is averaging 16.6 ppg and has shot 50 FT's already (behind Madson's 66)
Ole PG Steve Banick has an insane A/TO ratio at 3.75 (60 A/ 16 TO)
SMU and Augsburg still are 0-for not only in conference play, but overall as well
18 of the league's top 30 scorers are non-seniors (6 FY's)
we've had 1 semi- Bobby Knight incident down in Winona
the MIAC's overall record this year is...38-43
all 3 teams on Snelling Ave. have 4 wins
the Lutherans are only 9-19...the Catholics feel a little better about themselves at 10-13

after we all open our presents we get to settle in for 2 months of would could prove to be the best conference race, with the most teams vying for supremecay, in the MIAC in recent history

Hasse was a sophomore D2 transfer from Rockhurst in Kansa City.  He played ball at Mankato West and was on the Gustie roster for all of a week.

C'mon, you didn't know this? It's official - the golden age of the Gusties is over.  ;)
