COACH SIVERSON IS RESIGNING AFTER THE SEASON! oh no, now concordia actually will have a shot at making the playoffs in coming years......  Siverson did well when he had  his deep threat Eckhoff, but then he got a beast in the low post in Linz but hasn't factored that into anything really.

Local, a little birdie tells me that you are working up in that BSU area, is this true?

Good win for the miac teams.

Anybody know why the best running back in the NFC was held out of the first series?  GOOD CALL Childress.  His boy Taylor fumbles into the endzone, not to mention fails to break a tackle or two that AP would have blown by for a score earlier in the drive.  and then Mewelde Moore get carries???  Good job coach, at least he did one thing right in losing the game, at least we get a better draft pick.

Happy New Years, See you all next year.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Happy New Year to all....be safe & smart tonight.

Siverson's resignation is a shock. He's a heck of a guy, widely respected by his peers at all levels, has connections all over the place (see Soren Nelson's post-grad life as Exhibit A). I'm not 100% certain, but wasn't he the coach of the Cobber women when they won a national title?

It will be interesting to see how the team handles this... it could be a great motivator.

Mac/NW was a refereeing joke/nightmare....NW has 2-3 kids who would see plenty of minutes for any MIAC team, but that's it. They are a competive bunch, but would finish no higher than 7th in this year's (down) MIAC.

Sum – you're busting the cork on the bubbly 12 hours early & popping all kinds of news this morning.  Good job!

SJU –UWW-SNC tourney: Good theory on the fatigue factor.  I totally gapped that one out.  I'm sure fatigue had something to do with the overall level of play by the Johnnies against SNC.  Interestingly though, Brink shot better, 10-15 against the SNC in the 2nd game, yet was only 1-9 in the 1st game against Whitewater.  My guess would be that fatigue was a definite issue with the rest of the Johnnies since they shot the ball so well against Whitewater & poorly against Norberts.  Also, the Norbert Green Knights (?) probably didn't have anyone on their squad who could match up against Brink, thus accounting for his individual success in the 2nd game?

Wow, big news out of Cobberville.  Too bad CON isn't posting more frequently so we could lure him into writing some type of insider confessional about what really might be happening in Cobbsville.  Since I'm theorizing (SWAGGING) this morning - I'd venture a guess that Siverson's thinking is –

*30 years of coaching is enough.
* Although their current record doesn't indicate it, the Cobbs have got a decent crop of FY to try to build their program around for a new coach.
*Let somebody else deal with the challenges of trying to recruit to the tundra.
*Now is as good a time as any for him to step down.

Mose - while I'm almost as biased as you regarding the MIAC, I'd disagree with your assessment of Northwestern.  They would definitely contend for a spot in the MIAC playoffs this year.  With the exception of the Cobbs, I've seen every MIAC team play this year, & IMO there's not a team NW couldn't beat, & this includes Bethel.  They can play good team defense, & I'd take the Hanson brothers along with Mike Anderstrom over any other set of post players in the MIAC.  Plus it seems they've got a bunch of anonymous guards that always seem to step up & hit a ridiculously big shot.  HAM vs. NW promises to be another Snelling avenue thriller on Wednesday.

Now for the trifecta:

Local, A little birdie told me that UND's Emmanuel Little put on a dunking exhibition against the Beavers on Saturday. Any hilight reel stuff or were they all pretty routine?

Sumander, Here is a photo gallery of the game from my story on MinnesotaPreps. I covered the game to get some shots and talk with group of last years high school grads who are getting lots of playing time at Bemidji.

There are a few dunk shots for you. Sorry for the low quality, my number one camera is in the shop. Bad timing for all the tournament games.

Thanks to Canon for putting their top camera on the market and then pulling them from the shelves because of so many problems.

SJU wins over WW

Wow, really?  I'd consider that a huge upset.

I am not so sure I agree with you...the J's played very well, they finally had all the pieces together with Fogt back and playing meaningful minutes, he was huge in the win, WW did not defend well as the J's were over 53% for the game from the field and they fouled alot...SJU hit 24 of 29 from the line...

Not sure what to think now that St. Norb's smoked St. John's by 19, 75-56.  I have not seen the boxscore on that one.

I admittedly no nothing about St. John's, what I do know is that Whitewater is really good.  They did beat Stevens Point!  I also know that St. Norbert isn't real good, but "OK".  They did take Augustana into OT and they lost to Oshkosh at home by just 10 (while Whitewater lost on the road to Oshkosh by just 6).

Kudos to the Johnnies on beating a  7-1 Whitewater team yesterday and I'd consider your post if they would've beaten a Green Knights team that was just 4-5 with really no "big" wins that stand out and two close losses to solid teams (Oshkosh and Augustana).

I stand by my statement that St. John's beating Whitewater was a huge upset, IMO.

Game Story

Box Score

ok since you all asked, especially you Drake...St. Norbert is a very good club in their own building, they are more athletic than people give them credit for and their guards are as quick or quicker than any I have seen in a long time, their point may not be quicker than Abe but I think he is as good with the ball.

The Johnnies went about 7 minutes without a basket while St. Norbert ran a patient attack, they don't turn the ball over and they make you work hard on D...It was just not the Johnnies day...

As for Whitewater...I think some have over rated them, a good team yes, but I am not sure they are not as good as others think, they are not as good defensively as they probably need to be to be a club ranked as high as they were...

VOJ

Drake...WW really tried to deny Brady...other guys picked up the slack, maybe the J's were tired, who knows, I know this, St. Norbert might be the best defensive team I have seen this year...and they shot about 10 percentage points higher than normal and made their free throws...

Drake Palmer

Thanks for the update Voj.  I'll have to keep an eye on St. Norberts to see how they fare in the MWC conference this season.

In the meantime, everyone have a safe, healthy & prosperous New Year!  And if you do celebrate a wee bit in excess, lets' hope you don't wake up in the AM & you're seeing anything that resembles the St. Norbert's website!  Their site along with the UMAC league website has got to be tied for one of the worst looking websites around.  Not only do both sites look terrible, they're not particularly user friendly either.  Somewhere I recall reading the Norbert's site would be updated sometime after the first of the year.  For their sake, lets' hope it's soon. Dang.

Posters you make the call, which is worse:

St. Norberts?

UMAC?

Well I am not sure about the website question, neither are that great but I think I found your next job Drake...commissioner of the UMAC ;D ;)

Nah, I'll leave that job for the dulcet voice of the prairie.  ;D

In other news, in a scene reminiscent of the movie "The Big Lebowski" when Walter Sobchak is beating the crap out of the car, or the climactic fight in the bowling alley parking lot - here's what can happen when you look at a bad website (or in this case - a Gopher) too long.  PI, this story took place in your part of the state.  Any further word on this unusual bit of news from the Gophers?

Been out of the office since Dec. 20, but will be returning tomorrow, so I'll check out the complete police report.

My best guess is that a couple of idiots were shooting their mouths about something related to Willie and he, having probably drank a few, made a mistake in fighting back.

Having talked with him on a few occasions, he's a pretty leveled headed kid, and I don't suspect this being anything more than a bar fight.

Now for some basketball talk - I'm really interested to see how the Pipers fare over the next week:
Wed., Jan. 2 Northwestern 7:00 p.m.
Sat., Jan. 5 Augsburg* 3:00 p.m.
Mon., Jan. 7 Concordia* 7:30 p.m.

It sure would be nice to be 5-1 in the MIAC heading into this:
Wed., Jan. 9 at Carleton* 7:30 p.m.
Wed., Jan. 16 Gustavus* 7:30 p.m.
Sat., Jan. 19 at St. John's* 3:00 p.m.
Mon., Jan. 21 Macalester* 7:45 p.m.

Definitely helps playing at home against the Dawgs and the Cobbs - I figure Hamline might struggle with NWC, especially with the long layoff.
