Drake, I will do some snooping on that one. I do know she works at Concordia!

Calling all Bethel backers - I can't remember, but did anyone ever say why Cory Laugen was out the last couple of games Bethel played in December?  Ankle sprain, stress fracture etc.?

Drake, i don't remember specifically what happened, but he was injured and sat out the last few games so that he could use the extra time with Christmas break to get healthy.  Anyone taking in the Pipes game?  the cities will be busy seeing that 3 of the five games are within 5 minutes of each other.

concordia of the north

Actually, I think the coach at Concordia doesn't have that tough of a pitch.  Fargo-Moorhead is a good college town.  Compare F-M with Northfield, Winona, collegeville, etc...  Depending on your taste F-M has a lot more to offer than some of the really small miac towns.

when we went up there the coaches told us about the fun of having a self-contained rural/urban area where the newspaper and television news enthusiastically keep up with the college game.  It is almost unheard of for the d3 games to get big notice in the Press or Tribune but it is frequently the case that Concordia makes the front page of the Fargo Forum (the most widely distributed paper up there).  those are fun and appealing pitches for high school kids, perhaps especially for the kids coming from northern minnesota who play their regional games in the great atmosphere on campus.  Concordia is the site of their "destination" games growing up.

If Irwin takes that job you'd really hope he wouldn't turn concordia into primarily a juco transition college.

Random end of week notes:

Kip Sparby sighting:  Last week I saw him at one of the HS Boys' Holiday tournaments.  Young Kip is now an assistant coach at St. Paul's Como Park High school.

Favorite names of the week shout –out:

UNLV's – Wink Adams
Madison Memorial HS, a Wisconsin team is in town to play in the T-Wolves' Target Shoot-out on Saturday.  One of the players on the team – Vander Blue
*************
Arguably one of the best loved referees in the MIAC – Brad Panning, is now sporting a new pair of glasses to assist him with his terrific calls.  I saw him reffing the DeLaSalle & Madison Memorial game tonight.

..hey Drake if you make it over to the Bethel game...say hi...also when did you see the J's this year, its our first trip into the metro where I thought you never ventured from

VOJ- tsk, tsk, tsk.  Check your stats.  If I'm not mistaken, I believe this will be the Johnnies 2nd trip to the cities this season. Seems to me I recall a game they played against Concordia St. Paul on November 10th.  I think you were at a football game that day.  Besides, who says I saw the Johnnies in the cities?   ;)  Here's a little useless trivia for you..in the past 3 years I've been to every MIAC gym/fieldhouse around the state with the exception of SMU's.

SUMMIT!!!!!

PHYSICAL game at the Shoe today...Zorro lost a tooth, lotta chippy fouls both ways (some of which were called-- easily the poorest officiating I've seen thus far this short season). McCoy played like a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, shutting Johnson down over the last 28+ minutes. Knights jumped to 7-0 lead, held a 20-11 lead but Tommies roared back, opening up a 16 pt lead early in the 2nd half.  Nice, local crowd fora Sat afternoon in January. Drake played with face mask on, his first game after nose injury...CC used up its last timeout with nearly 9 minutes to play, questionable decision. The rematch should be most interesting!
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

From the HAM/AUG box:

Clute led Hamline with 26 points, while Hipp had 13 and Tony Thrasher (Jr., Hustisford, Wis.) had 12. Clute 12-13 from FT. This guy is good from that line.

Justin Kozlowski missed a FT with :04 left that would have tied the game. Hamline led 79-74 with 1 minute left. Not surprising since he was 0-for-4 in the game.

Every time I think it's safe to go out of town, all kinds of craziness breaks out in the MIAC kingdom!  Who's gotta Bethel Johnnie score? Chippiness over at the Shoe, Pipes -- are you kidding me? Cobbs kick butt - hunh?

And MOSE -- 1 down, four to go!  The Birds bust out over the Oles 89-75?!? What??     :o :o ;D

SUMMIT!!!!!

nada Drake...I found the score on the BU site, no box score, no game recap, no nothing.  At the SJU site, you can listen to the archived game, but no box score, nothing.

What game did you grace with your presence?
