Big win for the J's tonight. 66-57 in Arden Hills. Leiser leads the way with 20 and Fogt follows with 17 pts and 12 reb. I see the J's finishing in the top three for sure following this win. Brink had a sub-par performance though with only 6 pts and 6 rebs in 27 minutes. Maybe an injury?? Madson was the only Royal to shoot the ball more than 6 times.....and he shot it 25 times!!!!  :o

Why didn't Laugen start tonight for the Royals?

Laugen has been battling an ankle injury, he was in a boot for a while, Reck was back too, he suffered a concussion in an earlier game...Bethel has Madson and...no one to really help him, was not overly impressed with Moberg, but they do a GREAT job of hitting the offensive glass.  By the way I see you guys were upset about not finding a box on the Bethel SJU game, hell I only got stats at the half because we sent someone down and never got them at the end of the game.

Give the J's credit for playing tough on the road, need to do it again against the Ole's Monday night...

Drake, I didn't count the J's vs CSP scrimage...if you are ever in Collegeville I will buy you a soda, or hang around after and we can go to the Stonehouse or the Buckhead...animals or no animals, your pick

I also heard Sutherland of Carleton broke his shooting hand...can anyone confirm?

NorfField Mafia

The NorfFielders might be in some trouble.  Zorro's getting a couple visits from the tooth fairy and Sutherland's going to miss some time.  The Knights looked really tired, especially for coming off a month long break.  Without much depth, I'm worried they won't be able to survive the annual Guy Kalland beat down which usually causes the boys of the double C's to run out of gas in the second half of the season.  T-Bird/Rip Hamilton should be shooting at least twice as much as he does, I don't even think he could see the rim on that second half baseline jumper.

PI, the bandwagon continues to grow, it is up to 4 members now.  who will join PI an I on our ride to the post season?  I was at the Hamline game, good game, decent crowd, TERRIBLE REFFING.  The Asian Sensation is at it again.  Bad call after bad call.  it was even hard to watch when the calls went the pipes way......He is so garbage.

Auggie Tech showed me they can play, they compete, and if they don't make the post season they will spoil it for a few teams.  Cassens had an off night, but still played well.  Femi is the most selfish player i have ever seen.  After every basket or every rebound you heard and "UAAAH".  He would yell after every one of them.  That just screams, no pun intended, look at me, i did this.  just selfish, it was hard to watch him play.

Clute still ends up with 26 but needs to learn how to PASS.  i believe the season box score before the game had him down for 7 assists!?!?!?!?!  They have played ten games, only 7!  He forced too many shots but did hit a big 3 point play at the end.

Zev DunKujolic didn't throw down, but he shook some people and drained a few jumpers.  Then he doesn't play much in the second half????  He hit two 3's and a sweet jumper and then rides pine.....what is with that.

Finally, Hats off to B. Hayes.  Yet another clutch three from the corner and a free-throw that won the game.  2 games in a row, congrats.

Well Corey, your observations aren't exactly very good except for maybe the officiating. You would think that someone like yourself who has played some D3 basketball would have a clue.

After watching the Augsburg game on the webcast, I was able to gather some information of my own. Clute is probably the most efficient player in America at any level.  He is shooting 57% overall from the field. Shooting 50% from 3 (12-24) and he is shooting 84% from the line. Here are his numbers the last 4 games.
                                Min      Shots     Points
St. Mary's                 29          13          28
St. Scholastica (ot)   35          13          27
Northwestern           30          22         40
Augsburg                  22          10         26

So, over the past four games he is averaging a little more than two points per shot attempt, while pumping in just over 30 points a game and just under 15 shots a game during this stretch. That is absolutely phenomenal. You might see that for one game but not four straight. He's lighting it up just like the "Microwave" Vinnie Johnson with his points per minute.

He might only have 7 assists on the season but he also only has 11 turnovers, thats an impressive number. 23 is most in the assists column for anyone with the Pipers, so it's not like he is that far behind. If I were one of his teammates, I would make sure he that touched the ball almost every possession.

Looks like Whitmore is winning over these players by instilling toughness and heart, something the previous teams didn't have. It's all about winning and competing and looks like this team is catching on quickly.

So you guys don't think I'm holding out on you...

This is the lead to a story printed in the Fargo Forum in late December.

"MOORHEAD -- A Concordia College janitor fired from his job today has been arrested by Moorhead police after female basketball players reported a camcorder set up in a locker room. Steven James Sopko, 31, 306 1st Ave. SW., Dilworth, Minn., was taken into custody late this afternoon."

A search of the house found roughly 100 tapes and 7 camcorders. And the dude is currently free on bail. Hide the women and children next time you head up that way.

Well i attended my first MIAC game of the season saturday and watched my 2 favorite teams in the MIAC face off and sadly enough almost fell asleep...i really cant handle watching a basketball game with a big crowd that is pretty much silent...i was even suprised by the lack of noise from the CAR students who are usually pretty rowdy...nothing worse than a horrible atmosphere in a game between two teams who have had some great battles

anyway on to the game

UST looked extremely rusty the first 10 minutes of the game but got a spark from "The Real McCoy" who pretty much dominated the whole game...CAR looked very sharp for the first 10 minutes of the game and then started to look a little tired...i think the 2 a days took their toll on the knights in the second half...but all in all UST deserved and earned the victory

Jonker had a great 2nd half for the knights and helped prevent the game from getting out of hand

no idea why Tommy Drake is not the first option in the knights offense...he should have been last year and this year as well...he is clearly the best scorer and player CAR has

McCoy is tough and can shut people down...i love watchin him play

annoying crowd reaction of the game...UST player goes in for a break away dunk...CAR player from behind appears to have a clean block...ref calls a foul...group of fans behind UST's bench yells for an intentional foul

weirdest moment of the game...at one point i looked at the CAR bench and there were 3 players sitting there

i need to watch another MIAC game soon to get the dull memories out of my head

Not much talk about tonights games...so I thought I would chat them up...

SJU @ STO...Two teams that really get after each other...good matchups on the floor at many positions, J's rallied for a 1 point win last year, overcoming 10 points deficit in final few minutes...

Bethel @ UST...its now or never for the Royals, I know they started poorly last year and turned it around to get to the playoffs, but I think the MIAC is a little tougher this year from a standpoint of all the teams being more equal

Cord @ Hamline...can the Cord guards play at the pace Hamline will try to dictate...how much help with Linz get tonight, he received plenty in the win over MAC on Saturday...can the Cobbers do something no one else has been doing much of, holding Clute down

SMU @ Gustavus...big win for SMU against St. Olaf on Saturday...if SMU is pressing and trapping well they can be tough to beat, Gustavus has played very well to start the season continued it on their road trip out east.  Gusties will have to put clamps on Will Wright...

Augsburg @ Mac...bounce back game for Mac, Auggies in a tough spot here with UST and SJU next two games, they need a win now worse than anyone else in the conference...the Femi vs Conboy matchup should be a fun one just like Abe against any of the Auggy guards...

And back to basketball...

A little birdie tells me the Gusties have gone DEEP into their bag of tricks already this year to bring back an old friend. Can't wait to see the results :)

I thought you only had eligibility remaining in football?  Are you in game shape?

"Wait, wait don't tell me" (isn't that a name of a game show on NPR?) - Could this mean yet once again the return of the elusive Chris Hasse to the Gustie lineup?

The only time the Royals seem to run screens for each other is on an in-bounds play.  Every time it seems the Royals are backed into a corner, they come out swinging – could this be the night they stick it to the Tommies?

Cobbs haven't shot the 3-ball like they did on Saturday since the recent glory days of Josh Downey & the Big E.  A one game blip or a harbinger of things to come?

slicky- seems i struck a chord with you on my Clute comment.  You make great obvious points.  The Pipers go as Clute goes, he was smothered at UST and that was the pipes only conference loss.  Clute right now is the number one option for Hamline, of course he needs a touch every play, but you watched the web cast, did he not force a few shots?  and that will change when he plays more and learns more.  He's a freshman, and i was giving my insight.

I think this will be a tough game tonight for the pipes, hopefully the long ride drains the Cobbs a bit.  They are coming of a huge win and the pipes seem to struggle when the other team has a physical big man, and Linz is one of the best big men in the MIAC.  Hopefully Hipp can stay out of foul trouble and the asian sensation won't be officiating.

Bethel - St. Thomas game should be a good watch, as well as the Augie - Scots match up.  Auggies had a tough loss and the Scots coming off of a loss they should have won.  Looking like some good games tonight.
