I told the boys on the team that they were the best miac team i'd seen so far.

Stand up and cheer
Stand up and cheer for old Concordia
For today we raise
The maroon and gold above the rest
Rah, rah, rah
Our team is fighting
And we are bound to win the fray
We've got the team
We've got the steam
For this is old Concordia's day

C-O-N-C-O-R-D-I-A
Concordia
Concordia
Goooooooooooo Cobbers!

It was a shame to have two strong performances by Abe (34 pts)and TCON (25 pts and 19 boards) and not get a W for MAC, but 2 guys can't beat 5. Tough early shooting night for Ranwick reduced MAC's primary three man offensive threat to two and MAC didn't have enough overall to stay with the J's. Team rebounding continues to be a problem for MAC, as one guy has 19 and the team still gets killed on the rebounding stats. MAC seems to be missing the rebounding help Trey Mullen gave them before the semester break (he transferred out for 2nd semester back home to Colorado). I wouldn't agree with VOJ's assessment that Conboy/Vogt matchup never materialized, but it definitely was limited to the first half. I believe Fogt's limited playing time in the second half was an indication of what Coach Smith thought of the match up. MAC probably should have taken more advantage of the post matchup in the 2nd half once SJU went small, but Abe was having so much success torching the SJU guards that it became a 1 on 5 offensive show until the J's took over the last 4 minutes. Fun game to watch unless you were interested in MAC getting a win.

Papahoops nice recap...and that is what I meant with the Conboy/Fogt matchup...Jason could not stay with the quickness of Conboy, but Burtzel definitely held his own...Kudos to the J's for making plays down the stretch and I think Abe got tired...

i am going to make a bold, perhaps very bold prediction in that St. Mary's beats CAR on saturday...im sure everyone will disagree but the cards played aweful last game and still should've beat the gusties...

and as for my scots lets get back on track and pick up a win

PTPer35

scots - I did some research and it turns out that is a very bold prediction; the Cardinals haven't beaten the Knights since January 29 of 2000 when they came to Northfield and won 69-55. However, with the way the MIAC is going this year I wouldn't bet against St. Mary's.

it wouldnt suprise me...but at the same time i think Kalland is the perfect coach for the situation he is in right now with the depth issue...he has always played very few players and i think he will find a way to get it done against Mary...if CAR makes the playoffs i think he should be coach of the year...but thats just my opinion

I picked SMU...I think Trev has them on the right track...they were competitive late at Gustavus...Will Wright is a DI talent according to a few coaches I spoke with...Car is also without Sutherland and that could hurt against the pressing and trapping the Cards like to do...

i completely agree, i don't think there is a player in the miac that can stop wright if he is at his best.  Cormier is also supposed to return to the cards lineup saturday.  Last game the cards had 5 people in double digits, i expect around the same from them but better on the rebounding with the return of goldy locks dan cormier...

another question...is it just me or does mike rohr just slow the cards down when he is in the game, and it gets away from the style they are trying to play?

Chica yea false identification

A lot of talk about my cards "upsetting" Carleton.  I don't know if I would call it an upset.  Yeah they're 1-11, but in conference play they have played down to the wire with some of the top teams in the conference.  A 5 point loss to UST, 3 point loss to Johns, 2 point loss to Mac, 6 point loss to GAC (without top rebounder and third leading scorer).  In most of these games, they held the lead for at least some of the game if not the majority.  Maybe I'm wrong in thinking it wouldn't be an upset, but from seeing nearly every one of their games this year, I can see this team being in the top 6 by the end of the year.  To do so however, they have got to start with a win on saturday.

Dude, when St. Mary's beats anybody, it's an upset. Especially if it's against the big 5 - Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, St. John's or St. Thomas

Note: I, too, have picked St. Mary's over a banged up Knights squad. I'm sure I'm the only one who picked Auggie Tech over the Johnnies too. A little birdie says Auggie has a nice game plan in order to win.

SMU's Will Wright is quick, scary quick. I don't think he'll be enough, but he's quick.  Lukas Holland is also quick, but tends to play a bit out of control at times.  If Goose is back in the lineup, the Carlies could sneak out of Winona with a win.  And, like the Cobbs, Carleton's players are tall enough & handle the ball well enough to pass over the top of an attempted Redbird press.

So what's the Dawgs' game plan for the Johnnies?  Run down the shot clock?

Look's like Hamline missed out on this one - where is the loyalties?

My guess is that an athletic scholarship had a little something to do with it.  Plus the fact her brother never got all that much clock at Hamline?

---i haven't watched a game where the "redbirds" press hasn't been hard for the opposing team to beat.  I have never seen a team in the miac press or trap in some way on every single play of every game.  Teams that have a small rotation have a huge disadvantage against the cards.  however coach T-Bird needs to realize who should be on the floor and who shouldn't.  I think its hard to have mike rohr they're biggest player size wise on the floor for more than 7 minutes a game. he is just too slow to play that kind of ball.  Carr and Cormier may not be as big and able to stop other players 6'7 or taller, but they can both take them off the dribble and get the opposing bigs into foul trouble.  However Carr had another technical last game against the gusties and needs to figure someway to control his emotions.  I was at the end of the game and i am pretty unsure about what he did, because it didn't look like he said anything to the ref.  He is starting to get the "bad boy" reputatation in the miac.  I personally like those kinds of players, but he needs to control it a little more.
