Dude, when St. Mary's beats anybody, it's an upset. Especially if it's against the big 5 - Bethel, Carleton, Gustavus, St. John's or St. Thomas

Note: I, too, have picked St. Mary's over a banged up Knights squad. I'm sure I'm the only one who picked Auggie Tech over the Johnnies too. A little birdie says Auggie has a nice game plan in order to win.

SMU's Will Wright is quick, scary quick. I don't think he'll be enough, but he's quick.  Lukas Holland is also quick, but tends to play a bit out of control at times.  If Goose is back in the lineup, the Carlies could sneak out of Winona with a win.  And, like the Cobbs, Carleton's players are tall enough & handle the ball well enough to pass over the top of an attempted Redbird press.

So what's the Dawgs' game plan for the Johnnies?  Run down the shot clock?

Look's like Hamline missed out on this one - where is the loyalties?

My guess is that an athletic scholarship had a little something to do with it.  Plus the fact her brother never got all that much clock at Hamline?

---i haven't watched a game where the "redbirds" press hasn't been hard for the opposing team to beat.  I have never seen a team in the miac press or trap in some way on every single play of every game.  Teams that have a small rotation have a huge disadvantage against the cards.  however coach T-Bird needs to realize who should be on the floor and who shouldn't.  I think its hard to have mike rohr they're biggest player size wise on the floor for more than 7 minutes a game. he is just too slow to play that kind of ball.  Carr and Cormier may not be as big and able to stop other players 6'7 or taller, but they can both take them off the dribble and get the opposing bigs into foul trouble.  However Carr had another technical last game against the gusties and needs to figure someway to control his emotions.  I was at the end of the game and i am pretty unsure about what he did, because it didn't look like he said anything to the ref.  He is starting to get the "bad boy" reputatation in the miac.  I personally like those kinds of players, but he needs to control it a little more.

is this really what the board has come to? its not christmas break anymore, it's also a game day! step it up posters

PTPer35

My apologies scots. I guess c-mob and myself got carried away when there was a quadruple post (which kind of makes me want a quadruple burger) with everything in quotes. I'm sure the board will heat up as soon as the games get going and we have more to talk about than predictions. So here are some more predictions:

It'll be interesting to see how the Cardinals play against the Knights today. I think scots argument about BMQ (big men quickness) is moot because CAR doesn't have any big lumbering posts. Drake has always been a great defender and Rosett has been playing some stellar D as of late. Zorro is savvy inside and always seems to stay out of foul trouble. However the birds pressure defense may cause problems from a backcourt standpoint since FY Weishdeshel is about 5'10 and Biewen seems tentative in his decision making at times. I think Cormier will have a mediocre game today and wouldn't be surprised if Sweeney and Haywood had big games shooting the rock.

well sweeney is a possibility, but i will have to disagree with the haywood part since he graduated last spring

PTPer35

I thought he graduated...I must have been looking at last years roster.  ???

PTPer35

Odd. The link to this years' roster goes to 06-07.

Thanks for the post.  Sounds like UST coughed it up at the end.

Gusties fought back from a 13-point deficit to take a six point lead, only to have the Tommies come back and reclaim the lead on a three pointer by Teddy Archer with under a minute to go. Archer proceeded to hold his arm in the air for about 5 seconds and then he decided to blow a kiss to the St. Thomas crowd. With 11 seconds left and the Tommies leading by one, Archer missed the front end of a one on one (karma's a bitch isn't it Teddy?) Kaus then went coast to coast for the game winning lay-up.

Great come from behind victory for the Gusties.
