GAC beats UST 59-58. Joe Scott gets 16 and Wittwer goes for 24. Nicolai held to 3 points. Kaus gets game winning lay up with :01 on the clock.

Thanks for the post.  Sounds like UST coughed it up at the end.

No it was more the middle part of the 2nd half...when GAC went on an 18-0 run. Kaus was on fire, with a pair of 3s in that run as well as a bucket and the coast to coast game winner.

Gusties fought back from a 13-point deficit to take a six point lead, only to have the Tommies come back and reclaim the lead on a three pointer by Teddy Archer with under a minute to go. Archer proceeded to hold his arm in the air for about 5 seconds and then he decided to blow a kiss to the St. Thomas crowd. With 11 seconds left and the Tommies leading by one, Archer missed the front end of a one on one (karma's a bitch isn't it Teddy?) Kaus then went coast to coast for the game winning lay-up.

Great come from behind victory for the Gusties.

Archer needs to be less into the melodramatics and more focused on his play.

Viau was a late scratch due to flu-like symptons prior to warm ups.

AS was his usual annoying self in skin tight stripes. (maybe Viau should have breathed on him enough to pass the flu to the Sensation)

Neither of those had bearing on the outcome, although missing BJ hurt UST's defense.

All in all, a nice win for the Gusties, who remembered that there are 2 halves to every game.

I'm glad Party Boy didn't decide to hang up his sneakers like he contemplated over the summer.

Did Archer attend the Keating School of Acting at Gus Young? Sounds classy.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

As our MIAC teams travel the area this winter, let's hope angels keep their eyes on their busses and vans.

Bethel was up by 7 at the half against Concordia this afternoon. The Royals maintained a pretty good margin most of the the second  half.

Concondia was within 6 at one point. Fouls were 9-2 in favor of the Cobbers too. The Cobbers made  a late game run but the Royals finished strong despite tremendous pressure from Concordia.

Flannery missed the game to attend a funeral. Happy 21st to Michael Moberg!

What a nice facility! There was a very nice crowd today too.

Are the Royals building a team that will peak at the end of the season?

just noticed the new video highlights on the cobber site---love the pa guy after a nice steal and breakaway that concordia has termed a throw down

Everyone still off the bandwagon for CAR? They have proven the last 2 games they can win without a true pg and if they stay healthy they should continue to do so. They can be a very quick team (Drake and Johnson are very fast for their size) if they don't get tired. Something most MIAC teams can't do or don't do for some reason. If one MIAC team would push the ball most of the time they could be unstoppable.

It is becoming more an more apparent that this is going to be a dogfight.  On any given night, you could get beat.  It's like teams are having mood swings.  MAC, Carleton, St.  Olaf, Concordia, Hamline and Bethel all seem to keep you guessing.  And outside of the latest slip, St. Thomas, ustavus and the Johnnies seem to be the ones finding some sort of consitency.

Johnnies played well against the Auggies who got off to about the worst start they could, down 21-4...some interesting results from the MIAC this weekend...I thought MAC after watching them on Wednesday night would play better against St Olaf...Concordia who was one of the hotter teams in the MIAC laid an egg (IMO) against Bethel...can't lose those types of home games...UST and Gustavus played the type of game I thought they would and I think we are done talking about positive momentum and St. Mary's in the same sentence...see Concordia game comment.

Can't believe the old password still works. If anyone out there still remembers the Big Shocker (looking at you WW), I went to the GAC/UST game on Saturday and just felt like posting up again, you know, for old time sake.

1) It blows my mind that UST can recover from losing so much and still be sitting at the top of the conference. Kudos to them, even though once again, they get most of the best of the DIII talent. UST looked pretty solid, lots of good shooters, decent offensive movement, and pretty solid defense. What UST might be worried about is their lack of size inside. They just don't seem to have that bullish post.

2) Who are these Gusties? I watched the starting lineup come out and wondered who they were. Sure, Witwer was big when I was still at GAC, and Doble and Kaus as well, even though they didn't start. The GAC team isn't all that physically imposing, or mind-blowingly talented, but they still work. They kept plugging away at their offense and it paid off.

3) That was one of the better games I have seen. Both teams played hard (although I don't think either team was on its best day). If this is the state of the MIAC today, I am pleased, because it will be a hard fought, competitive season. I would like to see more games this season.

4) Finally, as a GAC alum, nice work by Teddy Archer. Raising your hand after a three on several occasions and blowing a kiss to the crowd might make you a hero if you win the game, but not with a minute left. No only did he miss the front end of a one-and-one, but he was the guy who got beat at the end of the game by Kaus. Check it out on the GAC athletic page. It's a great shot. You stay classy Teddy. Enjoy your dinner of crow.

I'm out, because this posting is addicting. I'm worried I will burn even more of my limited spare time if I stay on longer.

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

Nice to see you back Shocker, if even for a little bit. If you can't stick around, tell your buddies lil Shocker & Kel Varnsen to resume the posting fray.  Us older guys are starting to run out of material.

If not already, after this weekend's action, I'm almost positive Teddy will be honorary captain of the Players You Love to Hate Team.   But admit it, he injects a bit of additional entertainment value into some of these games.  Especially in some of the big rivalry games.  If GAC & UST continue to play well, the Shoe ought to be be packed for round 2 of Gusties vs. Tommies.    ;D
