If CAR starts the season 0-3, I won't count them out. From all I'm hearing, they've got some good freshmen and should only become more comfortable with the offense as the year goes on.

Plus, it's early. If we wanted to predict the playoffs based on today's standings, SMU would have the #3 seed. With most of the MIAC at 1-1, I wouldn't be surprised if a team that was once counted out early came back and made a push at the end (in a very Viking-esque manner, although the thought of any MIAC team caught on a sex-laden cruise ship in January sounds rather uncomfortable and unlikely).

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

Here are some more statistics:

Conclusion: Wednesday evening's GAC/UST showdown is big.

I like the story about St. Olaf. How does a player go about informing his coach that there's no game? I'd be sitting there hoping nobody would say anything because then we might get the day off from practice. And it would be hillarious to think of a coach showing up for the game with no fans, opposition, or team. Well, I suppose in this case, he wouldn't miss the fans.

KV....I was just making it up...making fun of my man, Koz!!!!

Just looking around, found some interesting GAC stats:

Wittwer- Fied goal percentage #1: .920 :o

Schafer (SJU)- #2: .679

Wow.

Andrew Olson- leading the conference in free throw percentage (.952) and 3-point shooting percentage (.647). :o

Wow.

Phil Sowden (Post, GAC)- 4th in the MIAC in assists (4.0 per game). :o

Wow.

Pipes,

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. Mac did run their offense well early against the Tommies, but a lot of the UST players were standing and watching, and it's pretty easy to run an offense against that. Keitzer deserved the technical, he had been jawing after every call in the second half, and for some of his antics he deserved an oscar. I agree that on the actual T, I didn't see him do anything. But the ref told him to shut up before that, he didn't, so he got the tech. It had been rubbing off on the players too, they were crying like little babies after every call against them whether it was legitimate or not. Meanwhile, some of the UST players were getting banged around like they were in a pinball machine, and nothing was called. Mac played hard and I give them credit for that, but I had to check my program several times in the second half to make sure Bosman and Conboy were still in the game, because they were ineffective. Ike played great help defense and got a couple huge blocks. Schnettler and Sweeney hit some huge shots. One thing I didn't see that I would like to start seeing is Keating needs to be more aggressive in going to the basket. I remember him penetrating a lot in high school, and I realize his position doesn't require that, but I know he can dribble into the lane, and he should do it more often. Right now, I don't see the Scots in the playoffs, but with the two guards back, maybe that will change.

What time are people meeting at Patty's on Wednesday for GAC/UST? And it's sad that I have to ask this, but where is it? I have yet to get my St. Peter bar experience. Willy, email me your cell number, thought I had it, but I don't. Thanks.

Drake - What's that supposed to mean? You don't think the 2-time defending champ deserves to have a bye before the matchup with its top rival and chief competition? They haven't earned that much at least? I happen to like it :)

Will you be in attendance Wednesday?

TH4L - I'm not sure you'll like my schedule. I'll be eating with a few buddies at around 5 and then heading up to watch the girls game at around 5:45. They've been pretty ugly to watch thus far, so you might be better off finding some other people heading down a bit later and staying at Pattys for the pregame. Call me tomorrow at work if you want.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Willy- of course you're in favor of your team's schedule.  It's just as I suspected, the grassy knolls of St. Peter conspiracy!  :D

If it wasn't a week night, 70 miles away, & a Wednesday night forecast of 2 below, I'd seriously consider making the drive.  Hopefully, I can catch part 2 up here in St. Paul later on in January.

In the meantime, I might bundle up & get a peek at the Tommies against the upstart Pipers tonight.

CORRECTION - My car just failed to start. It's being towed in less than 30 minutes and I'm being forced to rethink my travel schedule of the immediate future...

Hamline and UST tied at 18 with 8 minutes left in 1st half.

Sidenote:
The Hamline announcers decision to repeatedly refer to Joey Shimek as Joey SHEE-meck is making the viewing of the streaming webcast difficult.
