I’m predicting a slugfest.

Drake, Up Nort we call that a good old fashion rock fight! ;)

Here's one I never quite understood - a "donnybrook"

To answer my own question -  After Donnybrook fair, held annually in Donnybrook, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland, and noted for its brawls.

Let's go with rock fight.  ;D  Are you going to check this one out? As far as I'm concerned it's the best game of the night.

All this award discussion reminds me of my pet MIAC awards peeve.  Please – only select 10 players to the All MIAC team instead of the 15 players who currently receive the awards.  Or, if they insist on recognizing 15 All Conference players, create first, 2nd & 3rd teams.

I checked the surrounding conferences IIAC, WIAC & CCIW & they all do a variation of what I'm suggesting.  Both the CCIW & IIAC has a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd team while the WIAC is less forgiving.  The WIAC has a first team All Conference, then an honorable mention category of 10 players.  However, their AC Honorable Mention category is split into 2 separate groups of 5 players so its' easy to see who was unofficially 2nd or 3rd team All Conference.

George Thole, the old grumpy former football coach at Stillwater HS when asked about splitting all the schools into so many classes of play said something to the effect – "why don't they just make trophies for everyone at the beginning of the year?"
"If anything here offends, I beg your pardon. I come in peace, I depart in gratitude." ;)

Since MM brought him up...

How bad would MAC be on the boards if all-world boxer-out Neal Anderson was its starting 2 guard??

ZING!!!

His 1.4 rebound per game average would fit in perfectly at MAC

Although there is still a decent amount of time for things to change and of course there may be bias in my choice I still feel like Brink is the league MVP and here is why.

MVP is for the most valuable player mostly towards their own team.  Brink has been playing with 2 freshman starters basically the whole year, a point guard who doesnt factor much in the scoring role and ryan leiser is currently shooting about as bad as he can possibly shoot yet they are still 6-4 in conference and have a good chance at making the playoffs.  The fact he is the only consistent player they have currently he is carrying the team. He leads his team in Points, Rebounds, blocks, fg % and is second in steals.  The fact he can shoot such a high percentage at 55% while being focused on by the opposing team is inredible.

He also is in 6 of the top miac stats as well.
6 in scoring
4 in total rebounds
10 in offensive boards
3 in defensive boards
4 in blocks
6 in fg %

doing all that while playing 36 minutes a game is phenomenal!!
Also, to be 6th in scoring in the miac and 6 in fg% is a great feat.  None of the 5 players who score more then him are ahead of him in fg% and only 2 made the total fg % list in general!!   With that being said..he is the MVP!!!!

I"ll agree with you to a point...if the Js dont finish in the playoff field, what difference did he make? then, all he accomplished was being a very good player on a not-so-good team.  (Im not saying SJU wont make the playoffs, but if they DONT, then BB is effectively eliminated from MVP consideration)

I cant imagine the MVP going to a guy on a team that finishes 4th or lower.  While its possible to have gaudy stats on a crappy team, what value did they have? A good example is Wright for SMU.... eye-popping stats, but MVP-worthy?? not when on a cellar-dweller.

Drake- nice to see Im not the only one remembering Thole's wise words! I think he went on to say "let's just give everyone a state championship trophy, skip the playoffs and schedule more games"

I agree -- it makes the All-Conference team absolutely useless for judging for national awards. Instead of treating all 15 like they are first-teamers, we have to basically ignore it.

TCon may have great personal numbers, but he hasn't had the greatest team numbers.  His name escapes me but i believe it was TCon's freshman year when he had a deadly three point shooting guard from colorado.  That team was good because of him.  Has MAC even made the playoffs under the TCON reign?? MVP, i don't think so.

I thought Thole's quote was...Let's mail everybody trophies at the start of the year. ...Those that don't think they deserve them can mail em back!

IN REPLY TO BLEEDNAVYANDBLUE!!!

His post arguing for Madson to be MVP is incorrect.  Madson is not 18th in rebounding, which takes him off that list and he is now on 6, not 7 of the categories.  If he is going to go all the way to 18th when arguing for Madson he should do the same for Brady.  Brady should be added to the free throw percentage list as 16th.  Brady also has an assist to turnover ratio of 1.51 which makes him 6th.  So now, not only did Madson drop to 6 of the categories instead of 7, Brady is on 8 of the 10.  He is the MVP!!

No worries, Pat. I'm sure the SJU SID will simply nominate Brady as a guard, making his rebounding totals and shooting percentages too much for you to ignore no matter what the MIAC awards might tell you. The 6-6 forward is practically a shoo-in for D3hoops.com honors, just like Paul Henrichs was a few years ago!  ::)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Why all this MVP talk, its only the middle of the conference season.  Who knows, some team might pull a MAC and drop 7 in a row or vise versa.  The second time around is a little tougher because it is harder to sneak up on teams.  It should be a very interesting second half.
