...Didn't watch this one, but in looking at the box score here are some initial observations.

1) Coach Whitmore played 16 guys, 13 of which played at least 8 minutes.
2) Thrasher and Clute, the Pipers two best players, played 18 and 13 minutes respectively.  Clute also didn't start.

I guess it begs the question, is part of the issue trying to find some consistency in the line-ups  ??? AND choosing to roll with your young guys despite mistakes and off shooting nights, etc.

Local - Hamline has 11 players that average double digit minutes.  I'm guessing once the game started to get out of hand, Captain Hook, oops Captain Bligh, let me try one more time - Coach Whitmore decided to clear the bench.  ;)  He does seem to have a short tolerance level, as I've seen countless starting lineups from Hamline this year. In Clute's situation, I'm wondering if they're wanting to make sure he's at full strength before piling on the minutes?

I think tonight was the first major surge by the leaders & SMU is fading to a distant speck in the past, while Hamline, MAC, & Augsburg are biting & snarling their way back to the cellar.   We'll see if the Oles join them in another week, while everyone else starts jousting for playoff positions.

as i made reference to before, the pipes had no intensity, maybe Thrasher and Clute didnt' bring it today.  and Local....clute getting 13 minutes isn't sticking with the young guns.  The whole team was supposedly lagging big time and no one played well, hence why they all got a shot at playing.  I think on a night like this Whitmore was just looking for someone to do something and no one did.  Thats what i got from people who were at the game.

WW- And that's the bottom line, cause Stone Cold said so. Be ready for next week. Regular Shocker might be coming with.

Having played another game in my league tonight, I realized that I am now bad at playing. It's a good thing I'm a role player.

Reporter: Charles, is there anything about the incident you regret?

Sir Charles: Yeah, that we weren't on a higher floor.

SUMMIT!!!!!

All 15 Tommies got at least 9 minutes of PT, led by "iron man" Alex Healy, who spent 20 mins on the court. Healy dropped in 15 pts- all in the 2nd half including 3 treys-- to lead the attack. So, no, UST was not running the score up. ALL 15 guys scored-- something I have never seen in a game. A feel-good win for UST, their first really easy win of the year. The margin of victory exceeded the combined margin of their prior 12 wins. Viau had a couple of unreal steals, and Robinson had a couple of sweet ones. SMU looked hopelessly outclassed, altho Wright had a couple of veddy-nice threes--the kid has a real sweet shot!

Da Shoe felt empty.

OUCH!!

Brink's numbers...32 Brady Brink......... f  2-17   1-5    0-0    5  5 10   3   5  2  2  0  2  40

In 40 minutes...that's not an MVP type performance...maybe his supporting cast (that didn't play last night) is better than everyone thinks.

I belive Madson had something like 24 points up at Concordia  ;D

Madson will most likely be playing next year.  It didn't look like it early on in his career, but he has become very close with fellow juniors (laugen and moberg) and that is making him leaning toward staying!

Yeah, Sic'em Bears!  The feel good story of the year so far.  The Bears are nationally ranked after some very, very  hard times dating back to the murder of one player by one of his teammates and the Dave Bliss cheating scandal.

On a D-III note:  Interesting stat from the Carleton-Augsburg game, the Knights played played their 5 starters the entire second half - no subs.  Particularly interesting since they won by 18.  Wonder what was up with that?  CMOB, any thoughts?

JUst a thought but have you heard of an "Off night? Brink has been consistently one of the top players in this league night in and night out. Eventually your going to have a bad game. It just happened to come on a night when he really had little help (i.e. Leiser and Fogt) which magnified it even more. I would not count out Brink for MVP based on one game.

Everyone has an off night.  I cant remembr th game btu Madson had a relatively comparable earlier and I'm sure both of them as well as all other MVP candidtates will have an off-night between now & season's end.

Nites-- my guess is Kalland doesnt want the Iron 5 to go soft and expect substitution

MM -

If Madson's 14 point performance at Gustavus (which I would argue is a tougher place to play and Condcordia) is what you are talking about...

Or his 13 point performance in a 20 point win at home against St. Mary's (where 5 other guys were in double figures) is what you are talking about...

Neither of those compare to a 2-17 (5 pt. night)

As far as putting a team on your shoulders and trying to get a victory when others aren't playing well...I thougt that was a characteristic of an MVP.  TWICE, Madson has been the only one in double figures, and on those nights he went for 25 & 28 respectively.  He tried to carry the team on those nights...they just got a little heavy.

Everyone will have an "off-night,"  I just don't think Madson is getting enough respect on this board...he obviously has the respect of the other coaches in the league...by the way he is being guarded.

Brink is a nice player, and does a lot of things well, like hitting the boards hard!  But in my mind there is no comparison...maybe because the only times I have seen him (Brink) play...he hasn't had his best games.

Bethel is not good when they rely on Madson.  He needs to learn how find others when teams run 2/3/4 guys at him...and get a few more rebounds a game...but all I am saying is that HE IS A HOOPER...and even if you think Bethel is a bunch of Hypoctie Holy Rollers (which they are not)...give the Man Some Respect!

FURTHERMORE...

(This is getting ridiculous!)

Through 11 conference games, Brink has only been the leading scorer 5 times...less than half.

And on those nights he had these supporting casts

Brink 31 - Supporting Cast 21,10
Brink 24 - Supporting Cast 19,11,11
Brink 24 - Supporting Cast 13, 24, 11, 14
Brink 25 - Supporting Cast 22,15
Brink 21 - Supporting Cast 11 (@ St. Thomas)

Except for the St. Thomas game...He only "goes off" when others are playing well...Hmmm...

I might even argue he's not the most valuable player on his own team  ;D
