Maybe...but I'm certainly not sitting with a chump like you if I do ;)

(I'm actually bowling with Frank tomorrow, but I couldn't resist the jab.)

If Moberg is an MVP candidate, don't we have to consider Paulson too? Are the Gusties considered a national title contender yet, or are we still too focused on outrecruiting that new powerhouse in Mankato? And did I see Drake reversing field to say Tuma should be starting over his future MVP?

What a tangled web we weave...

Your raging blindness about Nicolai has caused you to lump the majority of posters into one Nicolai gumbo.  Here's what I said to TH4L about Nicolai last year after he had a huge game against the Oles:

TH4L - Nice recap of the Tommie - Ole game, so I'll just add a few additional comments....

While I agree Tyler Nicolai should be a lock for the All-FY team, & could be a real force in this league for the next four years; as a PG I'd like to see him get his teammates more involved.  Hopefully as he matures & grows as a player, I think we'll see him continue to develop in this area.

Was officaiting some high school ball last night- B/JV game, but I stuck around for the varsity and witnessed a very active high school crowd - in a good way.  Long story short, I was greatly amused by a chant I had never heard before, maybe it's beause I didn't play High school ball in these parts...anyway...opposing team is on the charity stripe and the home crowd chants a la Twisted Sister "You're not going to make it, NO you're not going to make it!"

Sorry if you all knew that one, but itwas fresh to me and delightful.

BTW the JV team may be a farm system for Gustavus prospects seeing as their coach is a former alumn, initials DE.

go because you want to see the new gym, not because you hope Mac will give you a game.  Johnnies by 35

May be a farm system? The head man is a former GAC assistant, DE is on JV and the ninth grade coach played/coached at GAC as well, assuming we're on the same page here.

I heard this on Monday. Don't know much about Haugen other than Washburn continues to be successful when other city schools haven't. They even made the state tournament a year ago and knocked off St. Thomas Academy in the q-finals.

I also like this - might not apply at a school like GAC, but I like that he cares about the players he coaches - not only on the field but in the classroom and in life.

QuoteHe also implemented academic monitoring and meal programs for student athletes as well as creating and directing the highly successful Washburn Athletic Leadership Academy.

He is a Bethel guy though.

Willy, I'm curious to hear your thoughts about this:

http://gustavus.edu/news/4528

I have mixed feelings.

On the one hand, I feel for Brownie. He's put in his time at GAC and has been wanting his own program to run for almost a decade. If he's passed over at a school where he poured out his heart and soul, I shudder to think what that means for his future head coaching chances at other schools — this is at least the fourth school where he's been a finalist, I believe. All the GAC assistants can keep their jobs, but I can't see Brownie and Southworth sticking around under a new regime. For purely selfish reasons, I dislike the lack of continuity this hiring will cause.

That said, I'm not sure I can argue with Haugen's credentials. I don't know the guy, but he certainly looks more than qualified. I'd be happy to go into more detail when I see you at the next hoops game, but some of my feelings here are best left unposted.

It's interesting to note that this coaching search was done in the utmost secrecy, yet the Free Press ran with a story in today's paper thanks to a GAC leak. The press conference for the official announcement was supposed to be at 11 a.m. this morning.

It was nice to see that Peter Leslie and Anders Halvorsen brought a bunch of players to Henry Sibley last night to watch the Sibley vs. Osseo game.

Same page indeed.  I didn't realize the entire coaching staff was that corrupted. ;)

On a related note, what other prep teams have former MIAC ballers at their helms?

Extremely hard to tell what exactly is going on with the messed up AUG/GAC live stat update...but I think Cassens just hit the game-winner with 3 seconds left. Van Sickle missed a 3 at the buzzer.

Auggie Tech wins 52-50, I think.
