After looking at the remaining schedules for all the current #2 teams. Looks like it could be a big game next Saturday at BU against CAR. BU has a tough schedule, but can get the wins and CAR is facing a winless team (always scary when you know they really want at least one win this year, but it is senior day at CAR) and an AUG team that seems to be struggling a bit as of late. Let's hope CAR brings their camera crew (their webcasts are good) so we can watch on-line (definately more teams can afford good live coverage and need to get on the ball with that, lol).
Should be an interesting/exciting week to follow, who would have thought it would come down to "needing" the 2 or 3 spot so you don't have to face the Tommies until the championship?

Go back and listen to the game, you clearly hear Coach Smith coaching and yelling instructions from the sidelines, he also made notes on what he was seeing and led not only pregame talk, as Andy Burns said on air on the post-game show, but also made the adjustments at half time, he yelled our offensive sets and even gave the official a piece of his mind on a few occasions...so I ask, is that coaching or is he just an interested fan??  Proof is in the pudding Willy or in this case the audio, oh and he will be there on Saturday at Hutton against the Pipers...you can apologize anytime

So...you're trying to say it was "business as usual" or what? That's not what Frank the Tank had to say afterwards.

"Smith did what he could from his position while assistant Pat McKenzie handled the duties on the bench."

Call me crazy, but that seems noteworthy in the .edu writeup. Heck, it was Frank's whole angle of his story.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

So if you are not on the bench it does not count?  I understand Frank's angle and yes it was different but to say Smitty was not not involved in coaching the team is not accurate.

Where was I wrong? Frank the Tank reported Tuesday Pat McKenzie would be coaching the Johnnies. Frank wrote the same thing after talking to a wheel-chaired Smith after Wednesday's game.

Smith was not serving as the head coach last night. Period.

QuoteSt. Thomas is winning by having players with high basketball IQs, playing well together.  Not your typical top-ranked team.  this is why it's easier to pick against them in the playoffs.

AO,

Didn't possibly think you could out-dumb yourself after your first post, but that's exactly what you did with that comment. Last I checked, something typical of a top-ranked team at any level is a team with basketball IQ, that plays well together. The Tommies are as good as they are because they are unselfish and they know how to play the game together. Who do you key on if you have 6-8 guys that can score in double figures??

It's good that UST finally got a good test, especially at home. I wonder how it would've turned out had the game been at the Robertson Center. I'm sure Fritz let them know after that they're not invincible. I wasn't there, but it sounds like they didn't play their best and still won. A mark of a great team is one that doesn't play the greatest every night and still finds a way to get the W. Nice to see Bethel give them a good run though.

you can give 110% but if you do that odds are you will get beat...think about all the numbers to chose from in the world of mathmatics...think about it...in a One A Day multi vitamin there is 200% Vitamin D...if you came with 110% in this matchup you would get demolished...there are some really large numbers out there that some people just tend to forget about...the number that most often gets left out of the conversation is 837,397,109,907,436,198,702,189...now think about how many numbers are between that and 110% which is greater than 110%...now you dont look so smart do you  :P

i guess its not your fault though...its just the black and white UMAC education working for ya!  ;)  think outside the box  :-*

i heart AO +k

you took that quote out of context.  Top ranked teams typically are able to physically dominate their opponents.  It's more impressive that the Tommies are #1 without having a roosefelt type in the post.  I didn't think the tommies were executing poorly at any point of the game, it was just a very close game.  Bethel was definitely committing more unforced errors.

Mafia: i always, always, always love that one.

Really...and do you always believe the written word and what you see on TV or hear on radio because no one ever gets anything wrong or mis-states anything?  Are you telling me that the players tuned out Coach Smith and only focused on Coach McKenzie?  Smitty called for substitutions and called timeouts but that must not count because of where he was sitting.

The fact that Coach Smith, who was in a wheel chair, was not one more spot over in an UNPROTECTED situation on the bench makes him a fan instead of a coach, or a member of the media?  Never mind he was yelling out offensive sets and getting after the fellas trying to get them to give their best effort with regards to rebounding and defense?

Do me a favor Willy, listen to the game...as I have said before the proof is in the pudding.  Willy if Coach Hanson was in a similiar situation, would you say the same thing?  I wonder...I can see there is alot of black and white in your world Willy, with nary a shade of grey...

I really enjoy your blog and most of your comments on the board, but your level of thinking and reasoning in this matter puts you on par with AO....PERIOD
