Quote from: miacmaniac on February 18, 2009, 12:48:39 PMBut  I'd love to see the team that produced AO try to take on UST...what is the record for most lopsided win in D-III tourney?  ;D ;D ;D ::) :P

I'm not sure that you want to invoke that comparison, Mose, even hyperbolically; in the 2002 tournament, Williams beat Cazenovia by the score of 121-49.
Catching up on the other boards...

That is one of the reasons that the appellation "Bumblin' B's" stuck.

Cazenovia was a Pool B selection that season.

Just in case people haven't noticed, SJU us 7-2 since Cole Isetts rejoined the starting lineup late in the year.

How many techs are people expecting tomorrow night in the GAC/SJU game? If Coombs is there, I bet the Gusties get at least two...and get blown out.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Northwestern isn't cazenovia, but it doesn't matter as we won't get a pool b because my guys did lose to a presentation team that shot 80% from the field for the game including a mr. richie ward shooting 16-16 from the field.  This marks the first time in 6 years northwestern didn't win the regular season championship.

on another note, Macalester can take solace in the fact that they weren't the only winless d3 team in the state as Crown also achieved a perfect 0-24 record on saturday.  the 25th game they were scheduled to play could have been their best chance of a win, but pillsbury closed the doors before they could get take their turn beating up the purple storm.

WW, nice piece on Isett's. Great kid. I thought he should have seen the court starting last year! Glad to see him stick it out and have some success.

SUMMIT!!!!!

Slow day on here, slower day at the office.

It would be fun to make the trip to Collegeville tonight...that should be a heck of a game. Over the past couple of years, it seems like some bad blood has broken out between GAC & SJU, and Saturday's antics are simply more of the same and could serve as gas on a fire. Add to that the possibility of Smith getting W#700 and you have the recipe for an exciting evening.  Too bad WW is immobile or we could have him and the GAC announcer go 2-on-2 at half against VOJ and PatMac.

The other game, Car @ Aug, also promises to be very entertaining. The Auggies weren't given much love in preseason polls but came together nicely. They do have to be stinging a bit after losing to SMU.  Car is in a bit of a slump, but should be regrouping for the playoffs. Both teams have the talent to make a good run in the playoffs. The game will feature 2 of the top candidates for MVP (Johnson and Alm).

A GAC win sends them to UST, while a win by SJU sends them to Bethel with the Aug/Car winner getting the other draw. It should be a good, fun week of hoops!

Kietzer steps down:

Wow!  That's a doggone shame.  I didn't know Coach Kietzer personally, but I appreciated the obvious work, patience & effort he put into fielding a competitive & occasionally winning teams.

In no small part, Macalester's success in the early 2000s in their quaint, little beat up gym was a contributing factor for luring me back into watching MIAC basketball.  In fact, one of my prized possessions is a promotional t-shirt MAC passed out/sold at the closing of the old Rat Cage several years ago.  I was given a rash of grief from some of my UST acquaintances, but it would take an awful lot for me to trade that shirt away. ;)

It's a shame and disappointment the Macalester admissions office won't provide the basketball program a similar degree of flexibility in recruiting as their academic counterpart in Northfield – Carleton.  I'm sure some of the reasons for Kietzer's resignation were a result of his frustration in attempting to successfully move a student-athlete through the Macalester admissions process.  If MAC is serious about being competitive, they should meet with other "national" schools that have similar academic backgrounds & pick up some ideas for "admissions best practices" they could implement.  Schools such as Washington U, Rochester, Amherst, Chicago, Williams, etc.

Best of luck to Curt Kietzer, the Mac players and new coach.  Unless there are some changes made in Macalester admissions model, they'll need our collective best wishes & then some to even field a mediocre team.

Good thing for us that they moved back to the Cage after many years in the mammoth Fieldhouse next door, with its sponge rubber surface and about 5000 seats occupied by less than 250 people. If not, we might not have Drake Palmer to kick around  ;D

Everytime I walked into the fieldhouse with those old turnstile gates, I kept expecting to see a film crew working on location shooting "Hoosiers goes to Macalester" & a bunch of Mose like clones wearing their team manager cardigan letter sweaters, scurrying around to get props for the basketball player extras.  ;D

I was digging around on the UST website & came up with these photos of Mose & his letter sweaters.  ;) ;D

Mose - you forgot an extra letter in (L is for _ _ _ _ _ _)

It should be L_ _ _ _ _ _ for D-liteful  :o  ;)

So how about those games tonight?  ;) If C-ville was closer I'd be tempted to drive up.  The Gusties- Johnnies round 3 should be a barnburner!  My guess, the younger "old master" - Coach Hanson finds a way to rally his troops & beat Sensei Smith at his own game.  An individual matchup I would love to see are the two fiery pgs - Burns from SJU & Schmidknecht from GAC.  Those 2 don't back down from anyone. Throw in Mike Delo for good measure & we should get an over/under on the # of Techs called in this game.   ;) Actually I think the game is going to be pretty clean & both coaches have warned their players to keep their tempers in check, or they'll be on the bench.  Where's Willy?

Down in Mpls the Dawgs & Knights go at it again.  After watching the Carlies guards successfully deal with the UST defensive pressure a few weeks ago, I was really surprised to see them struggle against Augsburg's guards last week.  Also, does anyone know why Carleton FY Kellen McLeMore didn't play the last game against Bethel?

Sum - as they say on Saturday Night Live Weekend Report with an arched eyebrow -
"Really?"  You're forecasting a Johnnie win?  Really?  Is that worth a mortgage bet, or just a mortgage payment, or a dinner bet at Mose's favorite Chinese restaurant?   :o ;)

Carleton FY Kellen McLeMore didn't play the last game against Bethel because he was out with the flu. Not sure of his status for tonight.

WW, a little disappointed in your recap of the BU-CAR, no mention of Johnson reaching the 2,000 point mark for his career. That's a huge accomplishment for anyone.
