Retired Old Rat

What a game in Collegeville.  Good luck to the Gusties.

Sure glad I didn't invest in any grease for the bandwagon wheels.  :'(

Gusties win by 3! Smith denied 700 on his first try. wait til next year.

Schmidt came to play tonight and Paulson was a man inside. They provided a great inside-outside combo. McPartland wasn't particularly good, but he hit the biggest shot of the night.

All in all, an impressive effort from a team who ended the season on the slide.

Bring on the Tommies!! (Maybe...)

Sidenote: Coombs wasn't working the game. Will Fritz request him for Wednesday? I sure hope not...

Sidenote 2: What are the chances Smith retires this offseason? I've got to think the medical issues could play a role in his decision.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Thank you, Drake.  Computer hadn't refreshed when I posted.  Give a guy a break! :)

Here's a score, KU 43, Oklahoma 35 with 15:51 left.  No Blake Griffin.

ESPN loving on the local Mn. boy Cole Aldrich as he has 12 pts and 16 boards.  He's a big boy.

Tough conference down there.  I watched Mizzou spank Kansas a few week ago. nasty.

When the dust settles, I'm thinking people are going to be talking about the game Schmidknecht had as well.  Boards, assists, leadership.

Unless he can't get out of bed, Coach Smith will be back next year. One game away from 700??  I'd be back.

Can't wait to hear VOJ talk about Van Sickle's 17 foot jumper in the first half that was ruled a three-pointer. Twice he yelled "Stop the Game! Stop the Game!" after it happened.

I guess the basketball gods finally decided that the Gusties deserved a break in a game in Collegeville. Then to top it off, the Gusties bank in a three before the halftime buzzer.

You gotta get some breaks to win on the road in the playoffs, and the Gusties got some tonight...although the Gusties earned it down the stretch.

yes--voj was pretty fired up on the 2 point shot ruled a 3---but stuff happens.

So anyone hear what Curt will be doing instead of coaching at MAC?  Might he be headed to the high school ranks?  Other than his job I don't really see any turnover at MIAC schools, but you never know...

A little birdie says another coaching change could happen....who could it be? Who could it be? And, no, it's not Ham-bone.

So what's shaking PI?  Anymore on this  & or the Kietzer "maybe not voluntary" resignation?

Schmidt really hurt the js and Paulson did well in the post offensively, but he was a matador against Burtzel.  Give the Gusties credit they hit six of their final 8 shots while SJU missed 8 of their last nine...and failed to score in the final 3:30 in the game.  Young teams have to learn how to put teams away, especially at home...this will help next year...

Smitty will be back, I have no doubt about that...too many good youngsters for him to enjoy coaching and the leg will come around.

Blown calls are part of hoops so are missed fouls and poor decisions from players themselves...but the Johnnies fought thrrough that and had a 7 point lead with under 6 minutes to go.  It was a 2 even GAC fans in attendance owned up to that, but what are you going to do, the Johnnies had did not defend well on McPartland's drive and at the end of the first half the three off the glass was a killer momentum wise.  The Gusties made plays and had some breaks go their way.  Congrats, good luck against the Tommies.

I just heard from a knowledgeable source that a second coach may be exiting - in one way or another. Then again, this coach making the playoffs once every 3 or 4 years might still be enough for adminstration.
