So anyone hear what Curt will be doing instead of coaching at MAC?  Might he be headed to the high school ranks?  Other than his job I don't really see any turnover at MIAC schools, but you never know...

A little birdie says another coaching change could happen....who could it be? Who could it be? And, no, it's not Ham-bone.

So what's shaking PI?  Anymore on this  & or the Kietzer "maybe not voluntary" resignation?

I just heard from a knowledgeable source that a second coach may be exiting - in one way or another. Then again, this coach making the playoffs once every 3 or 4 years might still be enough for adminstration.

I have a fairly decent idea who PI is talking about after this last post.  And Kietzer was given the choice...resign or ________

Unreal...obviously Mac had a terrible year but starting all over again at one of the toughest places in the conference to win just does not make sense.

Coach Syverson got by with this for years at CORD, but aside from SMU in Winona & our two IVY juniors - Mac & Carleton, Concordia has got to be one of the toughest schools in the MIAC to recruit basketball talent.  If you're talking about another school relatively close to the metro, perhaps even in the metro ( ;D  - not) - they have an embarrassment of riches: location, facilities, endowment, academic reputation, social life, women etc.

Nice job on manning up Voj.  I know the loss was disappointing but you've handled it well.  Nice run this season for the Johnnies. If they can get/develop a big man & get Todd Hermann back they could be seriously vying for league bragging rights next season.  Good job.

Nope, not in the 4 years CSN has been presenting awards. Looknig back over the years before the awards, I doubt there would have been but a handful winning both in the past 20 years.

JQ - do we really want to have a separate Awards topic? It might divert any other conversations/debates that might organically develop.   :P ;)

Just a thought.

I was going to suggest deleting your post but I don't think you can do that yet.   I'll send a message to the board admin & see if they can pull it.   Not a biggie - +K.

I'm hoping to see another picture of the "little piranha" taking out an opponent in a defensive wrap the next couple of days.  Or was it the other way around - someone was wrapped around piranha's leg?  What I do remember was that it was one of the funnier MIAC sport pics last year!  Mebbe WXYZ took that photo & he could re-post it for us? Funny.   ;D

Thanks Drake, you're right its dissapointing...without games to do I get depressed.  I have what looks like one final game with Cathedral vs Albany in high school boys hoops Thursday and maybe helping out the esteemed "Voice of the Dawgs"  Tom Witschen if Auggy can make a run to the MIAC title matchup,(by the way I could use a colorman that night...hint hint) but other than that, the best part of this job has come to an end for this year, unless Johnnies baseball makes the conference playoffs.

I spoke with Todd H last night, he says things are going well this semester, I hope he can rebound, he would definitely help.  I am sure that all of the assistants will delve into recruiting to fill the void.

Congrats again on your well deserved All American status...

S-L-O-W board today... wow

any predictions on tomorrow's games? Local, you're usually chomping to predict-- what do you see happening?

Kudos to Tim Madson and Tony Thrasher for making the cut as finalists for the Josten's Award...making the MIAC proud! Here's hoping you guys finish 1-2 in the voting, either of you first :)

VOJ-- Did Mr Burns behave last night? The box score/play-by-play look like he focused on playing rather than incidentals.

ROR-- the bandwagon may have slid off the road but there is room for you in the Town Car

Mose...I think the voters did a solid job, but Burtzel's or Hipp's play down the stretch rivaled Alm or Fraase...I guess because Concordia is not a playoff team I would not have put him on the first team...

I think some of the 2nd and 3rd teamers could be switched and no one would argue.  I thought Andy Burns should have at least merited honorable mention.

Here is the other thing, Zorro had a great year and 2k points is an awesome achievement, but if Madson or Alm leads his team to the title meaning a win tomorrow night and a win @ UST :o :o you could argue they would be a candidate for Player of the Year which is a little different than Most Valuable Player.  I think that holding off on the voting until after the conference tourament might be a wise idea or creating an all-tournament team with a tourney MVP.

Larry Knutson honored with Mike Augustin Award
http://www.miac-online.org/News/MIAC/2009/2/24/knustonaward.asp?path=miac
February 24, 2009

MOORHEAD, Minn. (Courtesy of Jim Cella, Concordia Sports Information) -- Longtime Concordia radio play-by-play broadcaster Larry Knutson was awarded the Mike Augustin MIAC Media Award last Wednesday at halftime of the Cobber men's basketball victory over Saint Mary's.

The award is given annually to recognize a media member for outstanding contributions to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) athletic programs. Recipients of the award are chosen by MIAC Sports Information Directors.

It is named in memory of the late Mike Augustin, a longtime sportswriter at the Pioneer Press. Mike was an articulate friend, follower and advocate of the MIAC. He respected Division III institutions, student-athletes and coaches. He died after a sudden illness in December of 1997.

Knutson has been broadcasting Concordia athletic events for over 25 years. During that time he has been the lone broadcaster for all Cobber men's and women's basketball games and CC football games. Knutson, the longest running play-by-play radio announcer in the MIAC, is not only known for his outstanding talent to broadcast the game, but also as a person that cares about all teams in the conference. He is known throughout the MIAC as one of the nicest and most sincere people in the conference. His character shows through in all his work and he is probably the most one of the most well-respected broadcasters to ever do MIAC games.

Mose, Wonka and VOJ were finalists I do believe.

VOJ - You bring up some good points, but I think it should be remembered the CSN awards along with the MIAC coaches' awards are based on regular season play, not the post season. What you're suggesting is similar to the award they used to give for the MVP of the Final Four, or the High School All State Tournament team.  Maybe we could do our own posters' version of this:  Name an All-MIAC Playoff team, beginning with the semifinal games on Wednesday night?

********
PI- I've listened to Cobb's announcer Larry Knutson before - he's really a very solid announcer.  Nice recognition.
