The past two years has seen the Tommies draw two teams that got hot at seasons end and bump them out.

Buena Vista as 2-2 to end the season and were a Pool C team because they lost the IIAC tourney final.  Their two wins were by 1 and 5 points.  Hardly hot.

None of the WIAC teams get to host...what a slap in the face to that league.

With the likes of Wheaton and Wash U, among others, I didn't think they'd host.  Point's women are hosting, and that's the case why Wash U isn't hosting on the men's side.

Elmhurst is hosting because, from what I was told, they are closer to Wash U...I was told that they aren't making three teams travel to Whitewater...still can't figure out the reasoning for that...Lawrence travels really far now.  I think because Elmhurst made the CCIW final and Whitewater didn't make the WIAC final, that's why.  Platteville was too far away.
Old school, what games you going too this year? I can't get to see Aurora play this year, although I'd love to go to Minneapolis now (isnt that where St. Thomas is?)..I hope that St. Thomas is as confident as their fans are, I have heard that AU will lose by 30, this will be an easy first round game for them, etc etc!

Why do I feel like I have to damage control all afternoon?  ::) ;)

HAHAHA, I love it!! I'm sure its all in jest, but when papa wrote this... "I'm sure Mose would rather have had a bye, but it should be a nice relaxing Friday evening for Tommie fans this weekend against Aurora."..I almost fell off my chair..well, you gus better watch out for auror's 7 foot center..they like to walk the ball up and pound it inside to him..he was eligible second semester, so he coincides with their 9-1 record over the past 10 games..they dont shoot the 3 much, or very well, so pack it in against them, defend the big guy and you should win by 30! LOL

IM BACK!!!!

well i was very disappointed in the boombalahties that i saw on my trip...not anything like i expected  :'(

however i did set up a new cartel which will be key to funding my new roller skate park...gimmie the beans

IN OTHER NEWS
i was reading through the 40 pages of stuuuufffffffff that i missed or more like skimming

i saw something about someone throwing a punch and then something about the hand being open and it was not a closed fist...i just want to know if this was the guy involved because he owes me a large amount of money for running his business on my mean streets

i also saw something about MAC and CAR recruiting...year by year CAR has been making it tougher for Kalland to get players in but i think CAR has a huge advantage due to their campus...im a city boy but i think i would choose CAR over MAC just based on the campus...even if there arent any boombalahties there you can always talk to the guy in the picture above that owes me some money to help you with that

on another angled note...someone said the UST crowd was electric?  UST is my second favorite MIAC team but i always have thought they have the lamest student section per capita...did they move past the U-S-T chant and come up with something else?  they should have a crazy student section every game

what the heck happend to my gophers?

53. i love it when new posters join...i love it even more when they dont realize you can find out who they are by looking at their email on their profile

next...im in a championship basketball game next sunday...i do not have much impact on the scoring side of the ball but i always come off the bench and try to give the team a spark with some crazy hustle...i might also only average 1.7 rebounds a game which would not make WW happy

when do we find out who the THOMAS CATS play?

joe crede will hit a homerun and TJ housdhaoknmasfoaijfafhzaada will hopefully be a viking

quack.........quack......quack...quack..quack quack quack quack quack quack goooooooooo duuuucccckkksss!!!

Let's be serious here, UST should win on Friday. Anything less would be a disaster, no matter how well Aurora has been playing of late. Besides, I can't make that game so they can't lose yet...

And for a little levity...who says Duke doesn't get any calls. Both of those are within the last two weeks. Maybe the MIAC refs aren't so bad after all?...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

27-0 doesn't get a first round bye? The byes appear to be driven more by geographic isolation than performance.

As we said throughout the week.

If someone wanted to add St. Thomas's profile to here that would be great:

You better be winking...or I was going to smite u...come on Drake its time for this finely tuned machine to put it in gear...40 point semi-final win and an almost 20 point final win show me they are ready to get on the road to Salem.  Perfect pushover team to play in the first round...

They are playing as well as any non-DI team I have seen recently, in fact I would put their achievements on par with the best hoops team I have ever been around...a JUCO team from WNCC where Bobby Jackson was a sophomore that beat teams by an average of 26 points during their conference tournament and finished 3rd in the nation, missing out on a championship game appearance by one missed jumper and a player fight, but that is another story entirely...

The gauntlet has been thrown down...its time for UST to champion the league and show everyone what the "Shoe" is all about

VOJ, you broadcast WNCC? My best friend was an assistant coach there from 2003-06 and was offered the head job, but turned it down.  Sounds like you were there a bit before his time, but still kinda a small world...

"The Bracket of Death" - kinda like how that sounds. If UST gets past the first weekend, that sectional will be better than the Final Four. Hope for you guys that it's here at the Shoe IF the Tommies can get past AU and UWSP.

Take a look at the La Crosse game against the Tommies this year.  Looks like they didn't struggle with the press that much being that the Tommies had 0 fast break points for the whole game.

I wouldn't put too much faith in the accuracy of that particular line in the box score; it's rarely tracked by the UST stat crew and almost always listed as 0.
Yeah, I dont think they've shown one bucket as "fast break" all season. I'm not sure why that is.

It's been my observation that lots and lots of Stat Crew operators disregard the "fast break" function. Take it from someone who works at a scorer's table (scorekeeper for the NPU women, Stat Crew spotter for the NPU men) -- there's a ton of things that the Stat Crew operator and spotter have to track, so something as comparatively unimportant as hitting the "fast break" key is frequently given short shrift, especially since fast-break points often come quickly, and off of steals/turnovers, which means hitting a lot of other keys in a very rapid sequence.

Nothing unusual at all about that. It stinks, but that's life in D3 for you.

No love for Wheaton, Mose?

Looks like keith45 was trying to throw us off a bit with his tongue in cheek visit to the board today. I think he was indeed "Joking..kinda sorta" with his suggestion to "pack it in" defensively against Aurora. A quick glance at their season stats show they attempted a whopping 599 3's this year. Their three leading scorers launched 474 3-balls on their own, 14% more than the entire UST squad (UST attempted 417 threes this year to date). I also couldn't locate keith45's 7 footer on the roster, as their tallest starter is 6'6". UST has there own 6'6" post man ;) ;) ;) to match up inside, so I'm guessing that Aurora will looking to shoot that 3 ball like they have all year.

yeah, you got me..

Gacman

Since the season is over and am no longer a player, I thought it would be appropriate to way in on the madness. Assuming that UST wins its first two games, they have the possiblity of playing Whitworth or Pudget Sound. Having played both of them earlier this year hear are my thoughts on the potential matchups.

First off, Whitworth has very good guard play. They have the type of guard play to break the UST press, and they should be well practiced against the pressure since they play PS who has a better and more frantic press then what UST has and that is saying something. They also have two really good posts. These are the type of posts that a team like UST probably hasn't faced all season. One of there posts is a larger sized version of Fraase who happens to be a better passer and the other has the size of Moberg but is more aggressive and more athletic. WW plays a style very similar to GAC. To date, they were the most disciplined team we faced all year. This would be a tough match-up.

Pudget Sound is UST on steriods. They press the ball every single possession but do it even more aggressively than UST. Although their press is better, their commitment on the defensive end once you break it isn't as strong as UST. PS plays with an intent to score within 7 seconds of getting the ball and almost let you score if you get past half court so they can get back to playing offense.  PS athleticism matches and probably surpasses UST because they have a little more size but their bigs are fast and athletic and more often than not lead their press.

It would be fun game to watch if UST played Pudget Sound.

Regardless of which one of these teams they play, UST will have their hands full as they will throughout the whole region. Good luck to UST.
The second mouse always gets the cheese.
