WW, I also saw the article in the Strib about Johnson getting screwed, I mean Scott getting the MVP. Scott says it best and has a point they didn't pick the correct MVP, they picked the best player on the best team.
"My feeling is the coaches felt that, with us going unbeaten in the conference, that a St. Thomas player should get the award," Scott said. "I'm the guy they went with, but it could've been any of our starters."

Have coaches lost their minds this basketball season?
Johnson wasn't the only left out of a POY/MVP award that was well desired. Rivera of America East lost it because other coaches disapproved of his transfer and his coach's recruiting ways, but the coach was named the coach of the year for the conference, doesn't make much sense.
The NCAA America East commissioner doesn't even agree. Think Daniel McKane, Executive Director of MIAC, agrees?

Lets talk about the game on Saturday night briefly.  First, I just want to say you know a team has arrived when fans are left trying to scalp tickets from local ticket brokers to get into a D3 basketball game, so congrats Tommies on drawing a nice sized crowd--albeit half were UWSP fans.  I know the Russian Mig sure appreciates having the "hook up" for tickets to these events... With that being said, they are still the most classless body of students in the MIAC and quite possibly anywhere... I wish I could be in the stand this weekend, but unfortunately I will be demoted to hitting the bottle and watching the live web feed....

Mig and BumKneez, you wanna join me?

C-Mob - Hahahaha!  Your obsession with poking people on facebook is... well... amazing.

i heard that was the "in thing" to do these days

SUMMIT!!!!!

Looking at UPS' stats, one question comes to mind: Do they play defense in the NWC? UPS wins its "average game" 86.0 -70.3. I can tell you now, there ain't NO WAY they can score over 80 on UST! If needs be, the Toms will resort to the deliberate mode that worked so well vs UWSP (the one some called boring or bad...not unlike what various MIAC teams tried unsuccessfully during regular season). It will be interesting on the boards. IF UPS can establish a presence there, I'd say they can hang close with UST and possibly take a "W"... but if UST can control the boards (and I'm not expecting that as lopsided as it was vs. Aurora), the Tommies should be in good shape. Maybe Sum the banker-turned-bookie will post his line on this....I'm suspecting the mysterious DP will be pronouncing a guarentee of some sort  :) Now, if only A--O would insist that UPS will win big, then I will be confident enough of a UST win to book 2 nights at the Hyatt, not one.

How many times do I have to say this? I clearly have no beef with the style UST plays. In many ways, it's a mirror image of the system used at GAC. I'm simply saying the results Saturday night were ugly. That's hardly a condemnation of all things Purple. Besides, I'd rather win ugly and advance than play perfect but lose.

Miggy - I was sitting about three feet from you Saturday night. In fact, you probably even stomped on my crutches at some point.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Willy,

While The Mig probably did step on your crutches, I know for a fact that I at one point moved them to sit down directly in front of you.  For all these years I have just had a moniker to identity people, now I can  associate a face and a pair of crutches with someone on here!

Columbian: I would take the Mega Bus, but my parents told me it was too dangerous to take by myself.  I Guess that I will just have to huddle in front of the computer to watch the game.

AK47:  You, BumKneez, and myself should head to Hooters Block E and convince the staff there to pipe the UST game in on their big screens.  I am sure the only convincing that you would have to do is just whip out your student ID from 4 years ago (you know..the same one you use to buy the cheaper student tickets instead of the ADULT ones like you should be doing).  You are a legend in local blog rings, so I am sure they will accommodate you in any way--just like the Tommie girls shot putters use to!

And Willy, just when you think there couldn't be anymore written, ::)  ;D Reusse comes back with a stronger effort after the less than stellar column he wrote on Joe Scott.  Don't get me wrong, the Scott column was a nice piece but not up to Patrick Reusse's usual good work.    The Morning Growl

Oh, I saw it. I actually liked his surly tone better in that piece (SURPRISE!). As if to confirm his thoughts that newspapers are struggling, I received word about two hours after reading it that my photog and receptionist had just been let go. A week after my general manager got the boot. Newspapers, rough business these days :-\

Mebbe a triple play coming...  :D

That's a drag about the newspaper biz.  There's just something nice, convenient & comfortable about taking the sports section or any other part of the paper, book or magazine with you out on the deck, porch, john, living room, kitchen, boat & leisurely reading it.  Printed media such as newspapers & magazines are definitely a little more portable, flexible & cost effective than dragging around your laptop, or those new electronic reading devices like Kindle.   ???

In the old days, when you went to someone's home for the first time you could sort of size up a person by looking through their book collection or music library.   Now you gotta grab their iPod & Kindle tablets to find out what type of variety & depth a person may have.  Fossil Drake. ::) ;)

Re: UPS

No doubt about it, UPS will be a very formidable opponent.  Three of the key players for UPS- PG Antwan Williams, F- Robert Krauel, & NWC conference POY,  F- Jason Foster were all freshmen contributors on the 2006 team that scared the mess out of Final 4 participant Illinois Wesleyan 2006 in the Elite Eight game.  Ill. Wesleyan won that game 113-99.

PG Antwan Williams reminds me of a smaller D3 version of Jeremy Pargo, the muscular PG for Gonzaga.  Williams is about 6-0, 18lbs or so, muscular, quick, excellent handles, can drive, dish & hit the trey. When he gets tired, the Loggers have a mini-version of Williams, in backup PG Steffond Brown, a smaller nearly as quick version of Williams.  Robert Krauel is their cat quick 6-4 forward, Jr. Austin Boyce their slasher & shooter, & 6-7 Sr. Jason Foster.  Those 4 guys all average double figures in scoring.  Ranging from 15.5ppg Foster, Krauel 14.2 ppg,, Williams 12.9ppg, & Boyce 10.8ppg.  Everybody on their team shoots threes, & they have a whole host of guys they bring in off the bench who can get hot & hurt you with the trey, or the swarming full court defense.

It will be interesting to see what style of ball UST coaching staff decide to go with in this game. The slash & burn style they've effectively used all season, or the methodical physical style they used against UWSP.  When I watched UPS a year ago against UW-Stout it was the more physical style of play that started to get Stout back in the game.  Stout did end up getting beat fairly decisively.  However, the physical style of play is what Stevens Point successfully used in past NCAA appearances in slowing down those high octane attacks from the teams out of the Northwestern Conference such as UPS or Whitworth.

Give me another day or so & I'll know what the 'guarantee' is" ;D ;D

Chitty - I dig the new format, using the 'glow effect.'  Very gnarly.  I am up for getting my student ID some more use!  I still use it to get me into the local UST bars without paying the absurd cover that is meant to keep predators like myself out. Perhaps we could bring Bumkneez's laptop to Hootski's and see if they can connect it to a projection screen so all in attendence can enjoy the Tommies.  I am sure there would be a lot of demand for such programming.

Willy - Chitty beat me to it, but I was going to say he was the obnoxious fan right in front of you.  Probably constantly standing and obstructing your view.  I did see your crutches, but I generally speaking avoid eye contact with everyone until I can spy on them at my own leisure and determine who they are.  It helps me avoid having conversations with people I don't want to talk to.  Bumkneez had to point out to me that Hansen was sitting behind us... I then used my exceptional peripheral vision to spot him.  Had I known you were back there too I probably would have harrassed you incessantly for no good reason.  Maybe for raggin' on Neal... but then I would have ragged on him too!
