Random observations from the state tourney:

Class II:  Jordair Jett from St. Bernards has more raw athletic ability, but I believe Tydnan Storrusten from Pelican Rapids was the more polished player.  If Jett would develop a reliable Jumper he would be an extremely tough player.

It's easy to see why the NSIC coaches were salivating overStorrusten.  He might need to be a bit quicker, but an excellent ball player.

Class III: Shaun Jensen from Spring Lake Park will go D2 somewhere.  Very nice player, strong, quick, built like the proverbial brickhouse. – needs to develop a better/ more consistent J. His side kick Trey Scott would make an excellent MIAC guard, explosive, quick, nice jumper.

Derrick Cattrysse from Mankato West would also make a nice D3 PG.  Somewhere I read his backcourt partner Ray Teachout is going to Mankato State on a football scholie to play QB?  At 5-11 he seems a little small to me, but he's very quick & has a gun for an arm.

Class AAAA: Osseo's Sam Dower will seriously need to hit the weight room.  Those little guards from Osseo were quick & did a great job handling the ball against the vaunted Hopkins defensive pressure.

Teachout is headed to MSU-Mankato along with one of the Richter twins. The other doesn't plan on playing sports in college. I could see Teachout moved to cornerback or safety. He can really leap. He can also punt the ball like 50 yards.

Taylor Steinbauer from Owatonna visited GAC today on a recruiting visit. He liked pretty good in pick-up ball. He threw a nasty dunk down over McPartland during one of the games. He looks like he will be a very good post in this conference if  he decides to stay at the D3 level, since I have heard there has been some interest from some small D1 schools.
The second mouse always gets the cheese.

Steinbauer should go to a D-3 school, he'd be a much more effective player in the MIAC than he would be at a D-I school. He won the match-up against Northfield's Addo (going to Northern Colorado) in the section semis and it was the biggest factor in Owatonna winning that game. He was also helped by having Kyle Melcher, who is headed to Winona State to play two sports, as a teammate.

Anyone taking in the all-star series this weekend? I'm missing it AND the Final Four Saturday night to go to Montevideo with my gal. I don't know about everybody else, but this weather sucks when high school spring sports are supposed to start next week and I have a preview due in less than a week when it's spring break here. Makes for a slow week at the cubicle.

It's a sad day when the baseball board get shifted to the top of the page and the hoops boards are slid down a notch. The only good thing that means is spring must be coming!

Just finished mine TH4L during the fifth commercial of Lost. Try writing about a golf team with two varsity members back and none of them have touched a golf ball yet this spring during practice. So and so did score a hat trick in floor hockey, while so and so shot a 70 in Tiger Woods Golf.

Don't worry, I hear it may hit 50 sometime next week. Maybe.

TommieHoops4Life

At least your golf team didn't finish dead last (and it wasn't even close) in the conference last year and had one kid shoot in the 70s once the whole year. Yuck.

Tried to catch a little of last night's McDonald's All-American game. Does anyone else find it absurd that in one of the better years of high school ball in MN that not one kid from the state was there??? It's one thing if they were invited and turned it down (which rarely happens) but no Royce White or Bruesewitz? Plenty of Division I talent here this year, and it's a shame MN wasn't represented at the game, other than Taylor Hill on the girls side.

For what it's worth dept:

I heard from a source closer to the situation than I, that Tydan Storrusten is entertaining an offer from South Dakota State. NDSU apparently has shown no interest.

Rich Glas and the Concordia staff are putting the full court press on for Eric Shulstad.

Thanks for the report Sum.  Interesting that SDSU would be interested in Storrusten but not NDSU.  My hunch then is that the Bison must feel confident in using 6-4 Sr. Josh Vaughan from Braham as their PG next year, or Drew Lundberg, a 6-2 jr from Owatonna.  I liked Lundberg better than Storrusten coming out of high school.  Storrusten might be a hair too small to play a 2G even at a small mid-major like NDSU.

It will be interesting to see what the Cobbs come up with in their first full recruiting season under Coach Glas.  A good perimeter shooter & they could be in the thick of the playoff chase next year.

Anybody hear anything out of the Oles or Pipers camps?  It seems year after year the Oles land some decent talent.

If Hamline expects to move up the the standings they'll need to recruit some depth to replace Tony Thrasher, Brandon Hayes, & get some real outside shooting threats. Hoops Doc what have you got to say about all this? Is there a Hamline recruiting manual in the works? Your audience is waiting for the follow up treatise to the Hamline Manifesto you self published this winter. That was a deep & scholarly work. :o ;D

I made the short jaunt up to Halenbeck Hall last night for the Coaches Association All-Star festivities.  It was a fun evening.  Lots of high flying action.

Here are a few MIAC recruiting rumors that I picked up in my conversations with various dignitaries.  ;)

Scott Theisen from Champlin Park and Tommy Sawatzke from Monticello both committed to Carleton this week.   Both had Division 2 interest and while Theisen didn't fare well in the all-star game last night, he has size and can really shoot the basketball.

Taylor Steinbauer from Owatonna has apparently started to receive some late interest from NSIC schools.  Don't get too excited just yet Gustie fans.  And the Division I talk is untrue for this young man I was told.

Don't be shocked if both Nate Wolters and Tydan Storrusten end up at Augustana in Sioux Falls, SD.  I was told the odds are 30-70 against, but that both young men are seriously considering the possibility.  Wolters will visit Colorado State next week and many seem to think he will accept their scholarship offer.

Hamline recently picked up a commitment from 6-5 Park Cottage Grove forward Andy Voigt.

A pair of MIAC assistants are among those who have interviewed for the Macalester vacancy.

Perrel? Hayes?

Voigt must be the younger brother of Gophers freshman Jackie Voigt.

MiacLostProphet

Hmmm PI, i think you might be on to something with that guess work.  Perrel was an ex-assistant when BVT was around a had a pretty good couple of years there.  Hayes would be a good coach as well, he knows the miac and has been working with a very successful program in carleton.

A no big east ncaa final? ??? who saw that coming!
