sounds like gophers 3rd string qb john nance will be leaving the gophers and may be joining UST to play some hoops...or at least that seems to be one of his top options right now

And Bloom. Jeff's slow, but talented Moses Alipate is still planning on joining the Gophers?? Gophers are already going to be very deep at the QB spot with Adam Weber & Marquise Gray (sp).

John Nance would be an absolutely terrific pick up for UST & could be an excellent 2 sport star excelling in football & basketball.  He would give the other St. Paul standout- SO Greg Morse, a serious run for the money at QB.  If the coaches could talk him into it, IMO Nance would be of greater value to the Tommie football team playing WR & letting Morse stay at QB.  Nance is much quicker than Morse, would make an excellent WR & has tremendous speed, hands & athleticism.  I could see Mose salivating at the prospect of having two outstanding wideouts in the lineup with Nance, Fritz Waldvogel & Morse passing them the ball.  I'd even consider checking out a football game if that aerial circus materialized.

Nance also has close ties to UST being a Cretin grad, & I've seen him & his dad at quite a few UST ballgames the last several winters.  Defensively, Nance could end up being a taller, quicker version of Lonnie Robinson – he's potentially that good.

I still think Nance goes D2 or to a smaller D1 school elsewhere, but it's still a nice daydream for the Tommie faithful. ;)

i actually though nance looked pretty good in the spring game in his limited play...i was kinda hoping he would move to wr and see what he could do

not exactly 100% on this but if i remember right he was trying to decide between gophers football and winona st basketball when he made his college choice

Alipate won't play QB in college. I see them converting him to a tight end or possibly to defense.

I'd love to see a combo situation with Weber and Marqueis Gray at QB this fall, that kid reminds me of Pryor from Ohio State.

pryor was the only duel threat high school qb rated higher than gray...coming out of high school they said gray was the better passer and pryor was the better runner...should be fun to watch

At the risk of dipping my toe in political hot waters, I have to post a photo of a great t-shirt I saw a college student wearing yesterday.  And it really doesn't matter which side of the gun-control aisle you sit on, it's hard to argue with the logic or at least chuckle at the thought: ;D ;D ;)

Cmob- This may not quite be what you're looking for, but a story nonetheless.

I recently had dinner with several parents of college age students.  One of the parents told the story of how she returned to her old hometown in early April to visit a high school friend.  Over the weekend, word began to circulate that some of the old high school crowd were back in town & an impromptu gathering & party developed at my friend's friend's house that Saturday night.  At the party, one of the school's aging (& not very well at that), overweight, former high school star athlete who had consumed a few too many drinks, approached one of his high school sweethearts in the dining room & struck up a friendly conversation.  After a few minutes of chatting her up, he tried to clumsily slide his arm around her & proceeded to tell her in a loud stage whisper so most people in the room could hear (I paraphrase) -"Baby, you know we can still make this happen."

I howled laughing!

I guess no matter how hard we try, I guess some men just can't outgrow that dog phase.  Bark on old dudes!

MIAC Board....whats your deal guys....talking about football players? This is a basketball board man, where's the recruiting news at? We had a list of players before and where they were going, where did that end up? Is there anyone out there yet that is not signed or committed?

Not basketball related, but MIAC related news:
St. Paul, Minn. -- The University of St. Thomas has swept the 2008-09 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's and Women's All-Sports Competitions. The traveling All-Sports Trophy is awarded annually to the institution that accumulates the best all-sports record during the MIAC academic year.

For the Tommie men, it is their 23rd overall All-Sports Award, and for the St. Thomas women it is the 18th title in the 26-year history of the women's award. This is the second straight sweep of the men's and women's titles for St. Thomas.

In 2008-09, St. Thomas won four men's championships (basketball, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, and baseball) and totaled 91 points to claim the George Durenberger Trophy. The Tommie men scored at least five points in each sport including second-place ties in football and hockey. St. Olaf, paced by team titles in cross country, swimming & diving, and hockey, finished second with 78.5 points. This is the best finish for the Ole men since 2000-2001. Saint John's with championships in football and golf placed third with 73.5 points. Gustavus, one point back with 72.5, was fourth and Bethel was fifth with 64.5 points.

St. Thomas won the 2008-09 MIAC Pat Wiesner Women's All-Sports Award after capturing five MIAC regular season titles. The Tommies won women's championships in volleyball, cross country, soccer, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field this season. Since the All-Sports Award altered its scoring format in 2003-04, St. Thomas' total of 115.5 is the most ever scored by an institution in a season. Gustavus followed the Tommies in second place with 105.5 points. The Gusties claimed team titles in golf, hockey, tennis, and softball during the 2008-09 season. The Gusties were followed by Saint Benedict (87 points), Carleton (77.5 points), and Concordia (75.5 points).

The MIAC All-Sports trophy had its beginning in the 1963-64 school year, when Bob Schabert, who, at the time, covered the MIAC for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, began determining men's all-sports results. The current men's trophy, the George Durenberger Trophy, was donated by Saint John's University beginning in the 1972-73 school year. On the women's side, the Pat Wiesner Trophy, was donated by Macalester College beginning in the 1983-84 school year, a year after women's sports competition began in the MIAC.

Final Men's Standings
1. St. Thomas - 91
2. St. Olaf - 78.5
3. Saint John's - 73.5
4. Gustavus - 72.5
5. Bethel - 64.5
6. Carleton - 62.5
7. Hamline - 53.5
8. Augsburg - 49
9. Concordia - 39.5
10. Macalester - 30
11. Saint Mary's - 17.5

Final Women's Standings
1. St. Thomas - 115.5
2. Gustavus - 105.5
3. Saint Benedict - 87
4. Carleton - 77.5
5. Concordia - 75.5
6. St. Olaf - 64
7. Bethel - 56.5
8. Hamline - 47.5
9. St. Catherine - 45
10. Macalester - 41.5
11. Saint Mary's - 38
12. Augsburg - 31.5

And I'm proud to be a Piper, where I know we'll be in the bottom half....

Not basketball related, but MIAC related - Tommies just played in (and won) the longest baseball game in D3 history. It was a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 17th to win over WSP in Oshkosh, WI.

Here's news on a Wisconsin prep hoops player headed the MIAC's direction:

Ugh. Here's some NOT good news about a former Tommie athlete.

In unrelated news, I had an eerily similar thing happen in my area about two years ago. I spoke to the angry parent who told me all the details, but no charges were ever filed though so I had to bite my keyboard with the story. Talk about a buzzkill...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.
