In other news, Shane Schilling, the former Tonka star who played two years at the U, has officially hit rock bottom.

I once held Shane Schilling to 47 points (and three alley-oop dunks) in a high school game before he got on the sauce. He got me for 8 the next time we played...on a Saturday morning during a summer tournament. He looked, smelled and played terrible in the rematch.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

I've finally returned after being off the radar for a couple of weeks.  A much needed family vacation.

Played a round of golf with some friends today, during which I learned a BIG SCOOP :o Apparently Taylor Hall, who has left Bemidji State, will transfer to Bethel.  I'm told this is a done deal.  If so, that is a huge pick-up for the Royals.  Hall had a nice freshman season at BSU.  However I'm still curious why he would leave and transfer to an MIAC school after having such success?

Yes and yes...and I would have gone to SJU.... ::) ;D  Seriously from what I understand Bethel got a very nice post player...now can the figure out how to feed him?  I defer to Willy W on that...

Nice job fellas on the karma...

Funny you should bring that up. Bethel has an opening for its the JV coach right now. I seriously considered applying. I mean, what better way would there be for me to get an all-access pass into the MIAC scene for my blog?

But then I realized...what would Westlund do if he walked by my practice and saw me teaching defense, making kids run gassers for jacking quick treys and demonstrating how to properly make post entries? It would make for a hilarious entry...but he might also have a heart attack. Since no one wants that — except Robertson, presumably — I decided against sending in my application.

Instead, I'll settle for working with middle schoolers again this year at Gustie Camp :)

Just had a funny thought.  WW at his first day of Bethel JV practice opening up his offensive playbook (two tablets of stone) on which are written the three tables of the law for basketball at Gusdavis.

I.     Thou shalt not dribble, even if the guy guarding you is garbage.

II.    Thou shalt  have no imagination while playing, as you will hurt feelings of lesser talented teammates.

III.  Thou shalt throw the ball to unskilled big oaf in middle, who is taking away the scoring lanes and can't see open shooters.

The league office and basketball fans of all sizes, ages and shapes thank you Willie, for withdrawing your name from consideration for the Bethel JV job.   Stick with those middle schoolers---you must still know more than some of those kids.   :)

Touche! HOWEVER, if stone tablets get you conference titles and into the Dance...I suspect some Royals might be interested in what they have to say ;)

If you look at GAC over the last 15 years, you might be surprised at how many knuckle sandwiches come your way from the "unskilled big oaf" dig. They've had arguably the top player in the league down low for many of those years (Schmidt, Newell, Johnson, Henke, Newell, Sowden). That said, the Stein and Paulson Eras have been extra lean in comparison.

And you want to talk shooters? I'd take Quam, Southworth, Brown, Espo and the TeBrakes over any other combo teams around the league have offered in recent years. Heck, I'd take Quam and Southworth over anything in the league right now. Again, the names aren't there in recent years, but that doesn't mean the system doesn't work.

And while I'm here, some food for thought while I'm away over the next few days. It's football talk and a lot to digest...but pretty interesting stuff.

(Please ignore any typos. It's 2 a.m. and my editor's asleep :P )

I didn't say the system doesn't work.  Hey, frontal lobotomy was effective at times, but that didn't make it appealing to onlookers.   ;)

Relative to your name dropping, I will take Southworth, Henke, Espenson, Brown, and old TeBrake and you can have all of the rest of those guys.

I win.

Man, I can almost see the light at the end of tunnel & hope to return to at least occasional posting mode here in a few days, or after the 4th.

In the meantime, Willy –what no blog on the latest success and near success of the US in the Confederation Cup?  By the way, who names their kid – "Kaka"?  ::)  ;)

Cmob – glad to hear your summer is going well, & I hope all of the other regulars & semi regulars to the board are having good summers.  I'm planning on starting to enjoy my summer in a couple of days.  Until then, here's a summer song for all the playas out on the lakes & wherever the sun is shining - Check it Out

Greetings gents....I trust the summer has been going splendidly. Just returned from Kansas City. Kaufman is a great stadium. If it wasn't the Royals I would be tempted to put it into conversation with Wrigley which I also got to go to this summer. Twolves draft Rubio, Flynn, Lawson, and Calathes. They traded two of them, but for a moment I thought maybe Kahn had hired Nelson Whitmore for the coaching vacancy. Small and quick is catching on I guess.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin' back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" .....Jesus Shuttlesworth

Considering how terrible the US looked against Italy and Brazil (the first time), it had no business advancing anywhere near the finals. Just getting to the championship portion of the tourney was more unlikely than beating Spain, IMO. But you better believe cocky text messages were flying to my soccer-hating buddies with a 2-0 lead. Sadly, the second half was pretty quiet.

I'm hoping to hit the World Cup in Brazil with pops in 2014. That would be blog worthy, especially if Jozy turns out to be the real deal. I may even have to spring for DeMerit's tats and a Lexi wig for the occasion.

cmob - Indeed. Where did you see it? That thing has been the top-read article on our web site for the last three days. Had it been written on my blog, there would have included a blurb about sitting on the can with my pants at my ankles when I realized there was no TP *JUST* in time to avoid a disaster...
