I believe that is last year's team picture for UST.  If you look, both Lonnie Robinson and Al McCoy are in it and both have since graduated.  The roster appears to have been updated but not the photo.

Umm, errh, UST has their roster posted, plus a season preview.  Looks like the chemistry staff, I mean coaching staff has some nice options to mix & match, & stir together.  ::) ;) If  I'm a coach I'd be drooling at the various possibilities.

Hopefully the younger players can buy into the team concept.  There's a ton of talent over there. It's a good thing Coach Fritz stopped using the old 6-7 man rotation that he had used for so many years. Otherwise, there would be a mass exit at the semester break.

On a sad note, former starter, David Baker decided not to return for his senior season.  Best of luck to him.

UST Preview

If you check out the UST roster you will see a team picture at center court w/ a UST logo.  Does anyboy know where the picture was taken.  It was my understanding that they don't a court on campus at this time.  Is there another gym somewhere on campus?
as Local pointed out, it is last year's team. The Shoe is no more but the Tom practice at McCarthy, on lower campus.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

This really doesn't matter since it was a scrimmage, but against a very athletic MCTC team, Hamline won by 40 or so.  This MCTC team went to the D3 national title game last year for JUCO.  Anyways, Brown had one of the sickest dunks on one of the twins (Olufaso).  Crossing up somebody on the perimeter and going up two hands and jumping over guy.  Hipp was also impressive as some of the other recruits.  I dont pay too much attention to MIAC bball, but Hamline will be very good this year.

by the way MCTC is preseason #1 in teh nation for d3 Jucos and they were crushed on Saturday by Hamline.

Thanks for the Hamline report UMACFAN. It sounds like Ray Brown still has his game. I look forward to seeing him in action, which means a trek to Joe Hutton for the Hamline/Elmhurst non-conference opener on 11/15 is now looming on my horizon.

Glad to see I got some reaction from Drake on my Halvorsen build up. Offensively, I consider Halvorsen a #4. Hipp is clearly a #5 (whose game I really like), so we have no argument on that comparison Drake.  I realize Fraase and Burtzel are returning 4's with higher overall scoring stats, but Halvorsen didn't get nearly the minutes these players received due to the strength of the UST squad last year.  On a points per minute basis, his scoring numbers compare favorably with the others, and he offers the 3 point threat to spread the defense.  I certainly understand your disagreement, however. If we all agreed on everything, the board would be boring :)

Really? We're talking about arguably the top returning player in the league as being worse than a player who didn't even start last year? At least Espo was all-conf and all-def the year he came off the bench before exploding for the MVP award. Halvorson wasn't the top 6th man or even honorable mention in 08-09...

If this is where the board has deteriorated to, the season needs to start. Now.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

You are right, it really doesn't matter, but actually Hamline won by 17 points.  They did have some glimpses of looking really good and some of the new players show a lot of potential but being so early in the season they obviously still have some kinks to work out.  Ray Brown will be a major impact to the team as long as he doesn't try to do too much.

The Gusties are scrimmaging Wartburg on Wednesday. I'll be covering a pair of super exciting section volleyball matches that night, but I know a couple of insiders who will be providing feedback.

Chill out Willy :o. I realize based on comparing stats from last year, my claim was a bit "out there". I realize based on stats and importance to his team last year, Fraase would clearly get the nod as the best returning 4. I don't believe my earlier claim on Halvorsen's potential, however, is as outrageous as you imply. As for Halvorsen not starting last year, I have a hunch he would have been in the starting lineup for any team other than UST (I think he might have been able to help your Gusties ;)). The dude is 6'8", a three point threat, can go inside or outside, and is athletic. If he could develop a stronger post game, he could be the best "big" in the league. Had he played on another squad with less overall talent last year that would have given him more minutes, I believe he would have put up some nice numbers. It is really hard to compare the potential next year performance of an underclassman playing behind quality seniors on an outstanding team with an underclassman getting extensive minutes on a team with lessor talent. I am not a league historian but I suspect in your reference of Espo climbing from the bench to MVP, he was probably on a pretty good team the year he came off the bench ;)

Any Ole fans making the trek down to Marshall tomorrow night?

I think Nance will play a bigger role then many think for UST.  For a while it was not certain whether he was going to go to Minnesota for Football or Winona St for basketball, so UST has a quality DII recruit who I think will make a big impact in the MIAC for the next few years.....

UST is looking good for that undefeated season, but you never know, not having the magic of the shoe this fall might cost them a game or two that they normally would have won...

uhm....not to quibble (and no knock on Fraase or Burtzel) but I think the reigning MVP is back, too, and he *might* be considered the "top returning player in the league"....just a hunch  :)

Scott is definitely a good player, but last year's vote was a complete and utter joke. You were even the guy saying BJ was more valuable to the Tommies that he was!

I've never see Fraase or Burtzel play, but their numbers and previous accolades speak more loudly to me than someone's supposed potential. Call me crazy, but I don't see Halvorson taking over the league like the next Espo.
