Winona State will also play UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout & UST in exhibition games over the next couple of weeks.

Wow...  4 exhibitions?  Does that seem like a lot to anybody else?

I misspoke (typed  ;) ).  Winona has 3 exhibition games against LAX, UWEC, & St. Thomas.  They offically kickoff the season with a "real" game against Stout on November 16th.

I asked it before, but I'll ask it again since it didn't get a response — is anyone going to the UST@WSU game?

If not, I'll do my best to provide some insight afterward...completely and utterly unbiased, of course :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Suprised that nobody has posted this yet but I saw that St Olaf played Southwest MN State last night. Seems like they played reasonably well by the box score.

One thing I am curious of, Fong not showing up in the box score. Did I miss something on the board, id he injured??

As an SMSU guy, I'll respond:

I was somewhat impressed with your team, especially the way they fought back from being down 22 to making it as close as a 3 point game. We were a bit sloppy, and struggled shooting most of the night.

You guys have a decent team, especially considering you were without Fong (we were without Scott Roehl, as well). Good luck to you in the rest of your season.

Next up for the Mustangs: Nov. 9 vs. Gustavus Adolphus

2009-10 Hamline University Roster:

Also a link to Outlook for season:

Finally, another roster posted.  But this is interesting, count the number of players who've not returned to the Hamline program this year.

SO: Pierre Harris - deep reserve
JR: Erik Gusaas – deep reserve
FY:  Max Van Ordstrand - 20 minutes pg averaged 6.6 ppg
SO: Eric Clute   16 minutes/game 7.8ppg
FY: Stoddard Barnhill - 19 minutes/game 5.2ppg, 1.7 apg

Lots of turnover for a sub .500 team.  Pierre Harris & Gusaas, never got too much clock, but I would think the loss of Van Ordstrand, Barnhill, & Clute is fairly significant. Barnhill was a former D2 scholie player or walkon at Southwest State, transferred to Hamline, & we all know about Clute.

Willy - I'll not be making the trip to Winona, so we'll look forward to your "unbiased summary."  ::) ;)

TD-  interesting that the Ole website makes no mention of Fong's absence either.  Where's funballer's report?  :)

ugh, You beat me to it H80.  a lot of turnover form last year yes, but from my knowledge all were known about except for Harris.  After the season ended barnhill put in for transfer as well as Van O.  I believe they both went to be closer to their ball and chains.  Gusaas shortly parted ways with the team after the season and clute is at SMSU.  The only surprise is Harris, he was a scrappy hard workin kid.

But the pipes do have a little size in their recruiting class, and that will fit well in with the returners.  It should be a fun season watching the pipes climb back into the playoffs after a 4 year layoff.

The Cobbers' roster is posted.

Sum – do you know anything about their recruits?  A few of them are from your neck of the woods.  And, if I'm not mistaken, didn't SO Skylar Wachter transfer from SJU, or was it Macalester?  Also, good news for the Cobbs -  post James Baldwin returns for his senior season.  They'll certainly be able to bang teams on the inside, but will they have the guard play to bring some balance?

Not that this matters but I am not an Ole. Just someone who follows the league and maybe hopes that SMU gets things figured out!!  ;) I still say they have two top 5 guards in the league. Maybe not even just guards but top 5 players in the league!

DP, I will do some investigating but, the two names from this area I don't think are impact players ala Eric Clute!

Excited to see the MIAC season get started.

I'll be taking in St. Olaf or Carleton on Nov. 16 as they both have home games that night. Very curious to see how the Tommies will be this year too.

On a side note and purely out of frustration, it's seemingly impossible these days for Gophers athletes to stay out of trouble... It's an absolute joke that Michael Carter is playing football on Saturday after getting arrested and put in jail earlier this week. Royce White needs to shoplift despite a free education, putting a highly anticipated basketball season in jeopardy. At what point does having quality kids trump getting athletes who have to worry about posting bail every so often?

TH4L-- THAT is why I have no interest in DI and the thugs that populate it.  You left out the Goophies other poster child of DI at its most typical, Mbemke or however you spell rapist in his native tongue. Although White has shown in the past that he doesnt consider an education to be an important thing. If he did, he would have a DeLaSalle diploma to his name (and a good chance of being able to read that diploma)

It's been awhile since I've had anything to say, but I thought I would give a little update from gustieland. I was there to check out their scrimmage against wartburg on wednesday night, and I saw some interesting things.

First off, this might be one of the deepest gustie teams in awhile. I would not be surprised if at least 12 guys are getting some playing time early on as Hanson tries to figure out a rotation.

Freshman James Hill looked really good. He is the type of player the gusties lacked last year. An athletic tall wing who can shoot outside and post up inside. In one of the twenty minute sessions, in five possesions he hit two threes and hit a post-up turnaround jumper from 15 feet. He will definitely get time as might Ben Biewen the other freshman who saw a lot of action last night. The other freshman look nice but probaly aren't quite ready to make an impact in the miac but are definitely talented.

Adam Michel also will add some much needed athleticism to the wing position as he will be one of the first off the bench. A really nice surprise was Paul Blacklock. He is 6'7" and seems to block or alter every shot that comes down the lane. The big surprise was his passing out of the post. I will be proven right as the season goes on but he is probably one of the top three passing big men in the miac which is essential to the gustie offense that relies on getting it into the post as their form of penetration. The offense will not bog down when he gets the ball. Also look for seth anderson to have an impact other than the guys who saw significant time from last year.

I haven't really been follow the chatter about all the teams and where people feel that they will stack up in the conference, but I would be on the lookout for this team to make some dramatic improvements from last year.

Wonka to expand on Bobby J from what you already have provided. He is definitely out for the season. He tore his acl during a pick-up game a week before school started. He already had surgery and it went well. He applied for and I think got a medical redshirt for the season, whick tells me two things. One he gets to practice towards the end of the season with the team as he prepares for next season without losing a year of eligibility which will only help him get back to form quicker and by redshirting, that tells me he must be planning on sticking around for his other three years of eligibility he will have left after this season. So definitely a blow for this years team but with all of the young talent this gustie team has, having him for another three years isn't so bad either.
