Scooterman is new to this board but I want to give some props to Coach Whitmore and his young squad--I think this is the year of the Pipers--When Brown gets healthy and everyone settles in their roles--Watch out MIAC--They will make some noise--Good luck Pipers!!!!

Good game at hutton today.  Pipers pull off a close win over a Northwestern team that played mainly without super-stud Stephen Hanson.  As usual Hipp led the team with 25(?) or so.  Freshman Schmidt played real well as he chipped in 16.  If Hipp could stay out of foul trouble (only played 4 min in first half) the pipers will beat up on teams on the inside with Hipp, but they still need a consistent 3-ball shooter. FY Taber reminded me of myself back in the day, coming off the bench and knockin a few shots in, he sparked the pipes big in the first half.

There was a very controversial jump ball with 4 seconds left and the pipers up 1.  Originally it was given to NW but then was changed and given to HU.  Don't know much about it but the NW coach was very upset at whitmore.  Anyone (AO) know what happened there?

The consistent 3 point shooters are there, it's just not the guys we thought they would be. Instead of Reig and Andersen, looks like they are Taber and Schmidt. If the minutes played last night are any indication (Schmidt 31/Reig 15, Taber 19/Andersen 11) it looks like Whitmore was giving the youngsters a chance to step up, and they did. You can't ask for much better than 7-15 from three though. Also (someone who was there), is Carrol in the doghouse with the coaches? Again, only 9 minutes for the senior captain.

NW definitely did miss Stephen Hanson. Usually starts for NW and doesn't come out of the game. I believe he sprained his ankle in their scrimmage against St. John's last week(although he did try playing through it last night-10 min 0/7), but I don't think anyone could argue that he doesn't make up a 1 point difference for NW in the loss.

It will be interesting to see how the long lay off goes for the Pipers. The schedule "reopens" against perennial powerhouse Buena Vista at Hutton, one week from Saturday.

Congrats to Macalester on the big win against Crown. It may not be this year, but Coach Whittle will turn things around there sooner rather than later.

TearDrop

Okay, so I am not sure if I have time to do this or not but it does not seem like anyone is putting it together this year so I will take a crack at it. If someone else would rather do it I would gladly give it up and just be a participant!!! (hint hint)

But for now I will try and do the pick'em. I know I don't have the time to do the fancy games that we did last year so I was thinking I would just do it straight up. I will use the MIAC composite schedule and go week by week and whoever picks the most games correctly gets bragging rights! I will do this on the MIAC Pick'em board and I think we will start on monday the 23rd. This should give people plenty of time. If you could let me know on that board if you want to play that would be helpful!! If I am leaving anything out that you might have questions about feel free to ask.

My buddy put up a poll for 2009-10 MIAC MVP.  Get your votes in....

Carl Hipp running away with the early vote.  Could it be the large influx of new Piper posters?

Willy Wonka

Palmer with 20-8-3 with three treys (and only 1 TO) off the bench for the Cards...but it wasn't enough as SMU lost 77-69 to UW-La Crosse. I've got to imagine he'll be starting sooner rather than later. It was almost an identical outcome to what happened when LAX played Winona State....

Rough night for Holland (2-15) likely prevented the upset.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

those are some pretty damn good teams...great job on putting them together...my only arguement would be that Forkrud should have made at least the 3rd team...he led his team to 18 straight MIAC victories to tie UST for the Conf title in a year they were supose to run away with it and won some kind of all region first team award or something like that

UNDER THE RADAR PLAYER:

I noticed that Augsburg picked up a transfer from Bemidji State:  Zach Eastman, a 6'0'' guard.  I haven't seen anyone mention him, but he could be a sleeper.  Apparently, he committed to DII Emporia State out of high school (Chaska).  I don't know what happened, but he ended up at Bemidji and got a little bit of playing time during his 2 years there.

His pedigree suggests a high basketball IQ that might fit in well with the Auggies.  His dad is a former North Dakota High School Athlete of the Year who was the point guard on a state championship basketball team his senior year.  He is in the Athletic Hall of Fame at both North Dakota State College of Science (where he played basketball and football) and at Moorhead State (where he played football).  At Moorhead, he quarterbacked the Dragons to two conference championships, and he was the Conference Player of the Year his senior season.

+k Like the list for the all-decade teams. Hard to keep Matt ohme off that list though.

Since almost everyone is convinved that Hamline is going to be the best thing to come along in a while since sliced bread, I will go out on a limb and say they don't get to 10 conference wins this year and miss the playoffs again.

Oh and I can't wait for GAC to kick off their season against buena vista. Can they beat them for the fourth time in five seasons?
The second mouse always gets the cheese.

Buena Vista beat Wayne State (NSIC) already this year, to open the season. The lost their other game to Grandview University, who I know nothing about (NAIA Division II). As long as we are going out on limbs, I am going to say that Buena Vista will be GAC by 10 in Storm Lake and come to Hutton the next weekend and lose to a Hamline team with a healthy Ray Brown. I'll even one up you, and say that they will beat GAC both times this year ;D

Willy,

What has the Pied Piper been giving this new band of Pipers to smoke in their pipes?    :P
