Impressive win for HU. It looks like the recipe will be as long as someone (or more) has an on night scoring, along with Hipp, they are going to be hard to defend. Still some ill advised shots on the offensive end and brain funks on defense showed this teams youth. Once they learn a balance between when to go early and when to set it up and good a quality touch for Hipp, they will be a force. The bulk of their points came in transition on early scores. The real test will be how they do when teams are taking those early opportunities away.

Johnnies had a very nice weekend in Oshkosh...

For all those from the WIAC who scan our board...the Bluegolds are a scrappy team...smallish which hurt them against SJU, Probst is a horse, I really like his inside/outside game and no doubt he will be a clutch performer for them this year.  Nice to see them turn around and beat Pugent Sound on Saturday.

Oshkosh is interesting...DJ Marsh is a fantastic player who can dominate without dominating the ball...he tries to make his teammates better but like Coach Van Dellan said to me, finding options B, C, and D in the offense has been tough so far this year...

Looking forward to the conference opener vs Bethel...followed by Carleton on Saturday and Mac next Wed...all three at home, a solid start is a must.

Just scanned the pick'em boards...thanks for backing the Js on their trip east to Oshkosh Drake, and Maniac... ::)

Lemme see if I got this....we all are supposed to pick SJU in all non-conference games altho you are free to pull for non-MIAC teams over UST in football.  I'll hop on the little red tricycle once you firmly lodge yourself on the big purple limo  :)

I think I predicted a UST win over Coe if Coe's qb did not play and thanks to a Malache Brothers crunch seperating his shoulder a week before he did not...by the way it's a red Harley complete with my Sons of Anarchy gear...

I was just needling you guys...touchy touchy maniac...didn't you see  the rolling eyes??  I am sure Drake would understand after our pre-T-giving dust-up.

CMob I hope you are talking hoops...because the Gophers would be a tasty snack on the gridiron...

Obviously Portland is good, but you can't be dropping games like that and expect to get a top 4 seed in the Dance at the end of the year...also how about the discipline that Tubby had to hand out because Westbrook and Nolan could not behave on the rides at Disneyland or missed curfew or whatever team rule they broke?

Total lack of focus on the West Coast eyes need to be on the prize because after Michigan State and Purdue the Big 10 is very mediocre and up for grabs.

When I originally wrote that sentence I thought of a couple other combinations using the words - "Hamline, Pipes, Pipers, Pipelayers & Beavers." I tried to go with the least offensive sentence.  ;)

As long as people continue to believe that anyone can coach - They will also continue to believe that anyone can criticize a coach.

Wow, Things are getting profound in here this morning.  Is it just me or are Wednesday's opening night match ups particularly intriguing?

* Macalester   Saint Mary's   St. Paul, Minn. (MAC) 7:30 p.m.
* Carleton   Gustavus   Northfield, Minn. (CAR) 7:30 p.m.
* Hamline   Augsburg   St. Paul, Minn. (HU) 7:30 p.m.
* Saint John's   Bethel   Collegeville, Minn. 7:30 p.m.
* St. Thomas   Concordia   St. Paul, Minn. (Concordia

How improved is SMU, Wright and Holland are proven commodities, can they find the supporting cast to get them to the playoffs?

CAR & GAC both with solid returning players, GAC has 3 starters back. Can CAR hold service at home?

Auggie Tech has 4 starters back but the Pipes have turned some heads with their non-conference performance.

SJU is sitting at 3-2 after two nice road wins in Wiscy! I felt there was a chance they might be 0-5 at this point. BET has had a lack luster non conference performance. Who winds the battle in C-Ville?

CORD goes to UST, CORD led by potential league MVP John Fraase has had a nice non conference run. How will they stack up on the road against the T's?

I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun

Well done Maniac...+K

So from the order of your previews I imagine that is the order you expect them to finish...I can't really argue with your thoughts, other than if Hamline is as good as some say they might crash the post-season 6...

Summ...good summaries...I think SMU gets a road win...Carleton rebounds from a loss to U of Chicago at the West Gym...Hamline defends their homecourt and the Tommies win at their new home, margin of victory is the question...will they overwhelm teams like last year or will they be just solid wins?

I'm thinking that not only will the margin of victory be less but they will lose a few games as well. I still think they are the favorite to win the conference but not in a landslide fashion like last year. I think that 16-4 is the benchmark for the conference champion this year. A lot of the teams have improved. SJU, GAC, HAM, ST. MARY'S, and CON all should be improved from last year. CAR, AUG, MAC and St. Olaf should be at least as good as they were last year, and maybe improved as well. The only teams, who haven't improved from last year are UST and Bethel. This could be fun year in the MIAC. I think this could be the most wide open race for the title this conference has seen in a while.
The second mouse always gets the cheese.

Well hell...

SUMMIT!!!!!

Good points/observations, Gacman. Altho it would have been hard for UST to improve from last year...I think they will be fairly similar, as some of the new parts nicely replace lost parts, but lack experience, so I doubt 20-0 is do-able.. I'd say 17-3.

I honestly wouldnt be shocked if SMU and/or Ham made the playoff field, they are both that much improved. SMU would be a lock if Bradley Bruno had returned. The kid was emerging as a All-MIAC First teamer. He took it to Carleton last week, with 20-6-5.

And the 5th annual preseason awards are out:
