If you're on scholarship and are all but guaranteed to be in the NBA Draft in within 2 years, keep your mouth shut, play/work out on your own and let the lawyers handle the dirty work. That's what you pay them for, and you're back on the court when coach says you're ready. Deal with it, cuz you did it to yourself.

Royce White is an embarrassment and should have his scholarship yanked. He has no business going public with anything, even if it is out of frustration and to promote his "label." If he didn't take the computer, red-shirt him for the rest of the year so he can sit on the bench and wonder what might have been if he could keep himself out of trouble.

I have little sympathy for D-I athletes who work hard for what they get, then throw it all away over something as stupid as this.

Mbakwe's deal is getting delayed because his former teammates who can vouch for his innocence are now on other college teams that are in season. Their coaches won't let them leave for a trial. Since when did the legal process become an option?

I'm pretty sure if my soon-to-be wife caught me cheating and then I wrecked my car as a result, I wouldn't have the option to decline a police interview. And yes, WW, this is me taking a bitter pill and swallowing it whole. If White and Mbakwe could've kept their act together earlier, the Gophs would be a top-10 team and I think would have a shot at the final four this year.

Even if they got that far without all this trouble, we'd probably have another Gangelhoff incident come forward at some point. It's impossible at that level to be good at sports and go to class at the same time.

I'm very curious to see how they will be when they start playing real teams, although the win over St. Joe's was a nice performance.

A subpoena will trump an uncooperative coach virtually every time.

I've got to side with gacbacker here.  Sure Royce is an idiot, but if he's not guilty of the laptop, he should be playing.  There has to be some legitimate reason the police are delaying so long with this investigation.  When I had a laptop stolen a couple of years ago, the cops took about 5 seconds to figure it wasn't worth investigating who the thief might be.

What are the odds are of two of the most talented forwards in minnesota basketball history being suspended during the same year for crimes they (probably) didn't commit?
whether he is guilty or not of the laptop theft, he HAS been in court and plead guilty to the MOA charges (both shoplifting & assault). That in itself is more than enough reason to kick his tail off the roster and yank his scholarship.  If he wants another 2nd chance (4th or 5th by my count), he can try a JC or try to latch on some other program. I dont think he'll make it 5 years without some serious criminal charges/jail time. As the twig is bent, so it grows, even if it grows to be 6'8"
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

But that's not the precedent set at colleges and universities across the country. Many D1 players have been found guilty of much worse crimes and have been let back on their teams.

A.J. Price and Marcus Williams pled guilty to stealing four laptops and were both let back on the UCONN team. Former Hopkins player Anthony DiLoreto was involved in an armed bank robbery and is currently playing on scholarship at Utah State.

You mean the fact that he hyped his YouTube vids as his way of coming clean, released them late...and then they turned out to be nothing more than a way to promote his whack record label (Sidenote: How out of place does "J-Strings" look with that crew?...) doesn't bother you?

LOL I was thinking the same thing. Pretty average musicians...

Hey now...we have not made a bad hire in football in decades unlike the Irish who have made it as much of a tradition as the waking of the echoes...which are now dead and buried and never should be talked about again, after all the last time that ND was relevant on the gridiron was 20 years ago...

(a harp starts to play)

you were penning your first "Profiles of Excellence..."  Drake was on his soap box on the corner of the UST campus pontificating about the MIAC, and compiling his first all name team...all hair team(mostly a mullet-sporting crew), etc.  The GAC crew was still learning the sport:  WW perfecting the 12 foot jumper and in your face D...Rob S putting proper spin on the rock...Piper insider was cultivating sources, honing his skills, Nites was...well given I have no idea how old Nites is all I can say is he was doing whatever it is he does...TommieHoops was pledging his allegiance to all things purple.  AO was learning how to agitate others through both the spoken and written word...Greg Sager was back in the Liverpool area appreciating Chuck Giscombe and Andy Partee lace them up for the Warriors with fellow talented players Joe Swenton and Chris Gedney setting the stage for a run to the State final 4... oh and I was a senior in high school, no direction, no motivation, some would say no hope, but a love for sports...see kids what will happen if you don't hit the books, you will wind up in radio and writing pointless drivel on message boards...oh and for those of you want the last 90 seconds back in your life while you perused this...too bad

I hate to see wasted potential. It's too bad when young people screw up their lives. Maybe White is just sick of basketball. I hope he figures it out and finds something that makes him happy.
Well hell...

Ouch, painful memories.  December 20 years ago Nites was having reconstructive knee surgery after he blew out his ACL playing basketball at the Texas Club.  Fast forward to December 2009 and he was having arthroscopic surgery on the same knee to take out torn cartilage.

That's the whole point of my request. A few games, no matter how poor or embarrassing, don't make or break an established program.

Or maybe you want to argue that LeMoyne will now be stealing players from Syracuse, too  ::)
That's great the Gustavus has an established program with terrific facilities and everything.  What it doesn't do is make recruiting or winning automatic.  You're acting like packer fans who dimiss the vikings as rivals by saying "you're not our rival, Chicago is!  we have lambeau field and we're title town..blah blah blah"

If you look at my original post, I never said White shouldn't be playing. I simply said he's dumb, which most/all people would agree with. Both of you seem to be arguing against something I didn't post...

That said, I happen to agree with the Reusse article a few weeks back that Tubby should have yanked his scholarship offer when White went through the non-recruited "transfer" to Hopkins. He's been a black eye for the U for years now without suiting up for even a single game.

His scholarship should have been yanked because he cheated on a test in high school? Don't you think about 75% of all high school kids cheat on a test at some point in their high school career. I know I did.

"Seventy-five percent of all high school kids cheat on a test at some point in their high school career"? Sweet merciful crap, gacbacker! Are you an alumnus of Bernie Madoff High?

As I've said before on these boards, I'm not an alumnus of UST or the old CST (?) but I've done some coursework there as well as several other fine MIAC institutions.

But 20 years ago eh? Hmm, I seem to recall the Red River Valley, me & ma had just harvested our last bushel of sugar beets, harsh winter winds and wait, the memories are getting a little fuzzy on me now. Sniff, sniff.  ;)
