How do you know your family is dedicated to the D3 mentality? You give each other MIAC gag presents at Christmas.

Last year Papa Wonka got a shirt memorializing his all-time least favorite coach — SJU's Gags. This year he paid me back with an Al McCoy throwback jersey. It's basically spandex tight on me, so don't expect any pictures to be posted...

Do you people have any suggestions that I could use for next year??

Give him a video clip of the game winning shot Phil Wirtjes made against the Cobbers last month.  It even made the Huffington Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/07/phil-wirtjes-shot-video-g_n_382952.html

Otherwise, a softball jersey from Mick's Office in Moorhead or a soccer jersey from Augsburg.

P.S.  I forgot.  For the right amount of money perhaps I could be persuaded to part with my limited edition, collectors' item 2007 Macalester commemorative t-shirt when they played their last game at the Cage. Or I could make a few phone calls & see if I could scrounge up a UST "white-out" tshirt.

Any of these items sure to be a hit at the next Wonka family holiday gathering.

Well, those ideas bring up another issue. What goes on the tag? My McCoy throwback came from "Mom, Dad and Fritz." Would these come from "Wonka and Drake" or would the mask finally be unveiled?

Somehow I doubt the Wonka family Christmas would be the right occasion for such a momentous event.

PS - I have no idea if Fritz was actually in on the gift. I actually doubt it — the autograph would have been easy, if so — but it's still funny to think about.

Is anyone going to the UST/UWSP game? I've got a local Pointer trying to talk me into carpooling with him...but I don't think it's going to fit my schedule  :-\
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Chasing MILFs since '82...

SUMMIT!!!!!

Auggies looked good, solid today. good team ball. nice to see the entire bench play a lot. Quaamen is back, no Krumweide. GG played, but seems to be in a soph slump. Fox has a women's powerhouse, but their men's team looked "not so" today...might be flat from travel or just not all that good (they would kick the snot out of anything from the UMAC, but who doesnt?)

work meetings till 4 tomorrow and again at 830 wed morn will keep me from following the infmaous pooptrial left by TDT & WW to UWSP (actually the trail goes to green bay, but rumor has it the most nuclear parts were close to SP)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Buddo

SMU loses to Winona State by only 13... previous beatings have been by a 60+ margin.

SMU started off 11-2 and was only down by 4 at half (40-36).

Wright with 20, Holland with 16, Palmer with 12. WSU fans were in very bad taste from what I heard from a source... they couldn't handle their "inferior" crosstown school nipping at their heels.

I see G-G listed in the regular box score, but for some reason he isn't shown in the live stats that I looked at yesterday.  http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics/livestats/xlive.htm

Gusties drop one to Hawaii Pacific University 80-73.   They appear to have been done in by ice cold three point shooting, going 4-26 from beyond the ark.  Paulson led the way with 15 points.  http://www.hpu.edu/images/Athletics/Mens_Basketball_2009-10/hpumbb10_a30132.htm

you beat me to the punch, nites.  amazing that gusties stayed as close as they did in spite of shooting woes.  if you rebound and don't turn the ball over, you can be "broke" and still have a chance.  seth anderson continues to justify his minutes, and tyler grey managed to get up 9 shots (8 threes)  in 11 minutes!!

nice job by cardinals vs. winona state.  this is definitely a better saint mary's team that the ones to which we are accustomed.  i look forward to seeing them play on the 6th vs. vipes.

Apparently, he only has one thing on his mind when he comes in the game.  I wouldn't be looking for him to feed any of the post players.   In 8 games he's taken 57 shots, while compiling a total of 4 assists, 4 fouls, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.  Rather one dimensional, wouldn't you say?  Obviously, Hanson wants him firing at will when he's in the game, which is fine, when he's on....

I think this game can be chalked up to the jet leg and not having played a game in about three weeks. Their last game was on 12th against Bethany but I'm not sure we can really call that a game. I think you will see a different Gustie team tomorrow. Van Sickle continues to get huge chunks of minutes when I don't see that he is adding enough to the team to deserve it. 33 minutes is a lot for someone averaging 25% from 3's and under 3 rebounds a game. Don't get me wrong, he should be a starter, but as of right now, he isn't adding enough to be taking up that many minutes. Playing more in the 22-26 minute range would be a better fit for this team and how deep it is.

Wish the J's had a tune-up game before facing the Cards on their home floor...hopefully the J's will put forth the effort and make the plays needed to win...

WTF TDT?!?! Don't you have better things to be doing than sitting outside my house on Christmas eve taking creepy pictures?...

gacman - Careful with your criticism of Grey. gacbacker thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread and wants MORE minutes for him. Just imagine how many shots he could put up with 30+ minutes! It'd be like Kaus in high school...

That has to be the Midwest version of the Sports Illustrated photo of the year.  Good humor.  I think Al McCoy's mother would be quite proud of that shot!

Good solid effort by the Gusties in their loss against the much larger Hawaii–Hilo Sea Warriors. Not only did they out rebound HPU 42-35, they also came out on top of the TO battle as the Gusties only had 10 TOs while HPU had 15. Some frigid MN shooting seemed to have been GAC's undoing as they shot less than 38% from the floor & 15 % from behind the arc.

Terrific size on the part of HPU. Their starters were: 6-8 250 lb, 6-8 265 lbs, 6-6 187lbs, 6-3 205 lbs, & 6-5 190lbs.  A couple of DI transfers, one from Illinois & one of the players is a cousin of former Florida Gator Udonis Haslem.
