gac loses to bethel 54-52

WOW!!! :o :o :o Gusties shot 34.5% for the game...Bethel's not that much better at 38.5% but are two points better overall.

Dawgs win in 2OTS over the Carlies!! 73-70

Now tonight's game between the Jays & Tomcats gets even bigger. Everyone have fun at the game tonight!  ;)

Ugh!

I wasn't there and can only report what my people tell me - terrible offense, much frustration and as a distant third some questionable reffing. Can anyone shed some light here so I don't have to credit the Bethel defense? ???

Gac actually closed the game strong, for whatever that's worth. Erased an 8ish point deficit in the final  3 minutes to tie it. Van Sickle missed a GW 3 in the final 5 seconds.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Bethel definitely played the best defense I've seen in a while from them.  Zach Hurd gave them some great minutes at the point position.  He really hounded the Gustie guards and made it difficult to get any rhythm on offense.  It was a very physical game all around.  The reffing wasn't great, but I don't think it would have cost either team the game no matter who lost.  There really wasn't one guy on the offensive end that stood out to me during this game.  It was just a little bit here and a little bit there.  Wirjes, not sure on the spelling almost single handedly helped the Gusties pull this one off with 2 huge threes in the last couple minutes, but Bethel was able to get a fast break bucket off of a loose ball scramble to take the one point lead and then made a stop.  Hopefully this game will give Bethel a little confidence going towards the second half of the season.  Even though the playoffs are pretty much out of the question they could go a long way towards rebuilding for next year if the young guys start playing well.  That was a little scattered, but I didn't have much time to provide a more streamlined thought process.

Caught the 2nd half, didn't see many open looks from either team, so the Defense was pretty reasonable and the reffing appeared pretty loose but even.  The Gusties make a 13-2 run in the last 5 minutes, but then commit a pretty silly foul 25 feet from the basket.  Seth Anderson trys to play hero a couple times and Van Sickle airballs the potential game winner.  The Gusties probably owed one to the MIAC after wirtjes' heave against the cobbs.   Also, The bethel SID apparently thought Gustavus was ranked #8?

SJU on a 13-0 run, trail 51-50, 7min left

And just like that, UST goes on an 8-0 run, 59-50 under 4min

In today's game, the Waseca native Sam Paulson and the Gusties learned an important lesson or two a little bit too late into this afternoon's contest: Beating St. Thomas does not win any subsequent contest. It only makes each game harder. Today's game was the first time current Gustavus players have fully experienced being prey. You'd prefer not to have to learn this lesson the hard way, but let's hope the players take it to heart.  Oh, and make your "free" throws.

This was an all-around lousy basketball game. I have not seen Bethel play in a while, but if their fans are pleased with today's efforts, then the program has in fact degraded at least as much as their season record suggests.

Let's just be glad we didn't waste a good officiating crew on this one.
