While we're on the topic, here's a press release from SMU on Chris Palmer earning the MIAC player of the week award.

Palmer has averaged 20 ppg and 11 rpg in his last three games.

It's really not worth the ink, but just for the sake of argument...

Palmer wouldn't be an MVP candidate on a better team? His numbers are comparable to Hipp, who many had in the mix prior to the GAC disaster. Here's a look Palmer compared to last year's "winner"...with Palmer in parans.

13.0 PPG (14.8)
3.1 RPG (8.2)
1.8 APG (0.9)
52% FG (47%)
44% 3 pt (44%)
1.75 steals (0.6)
0.3 blocks (.1)
25.2 MPG (27.6)

To be clear, Burtzel is my easy MVP choice at this point. He's shooting 75%!

On a loosely-related note, how many guys would GAC get on the all-conference team if it finished 19-1 without a single player scoring in double figures? I promise it wouldn't be four...
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

IMHO the finalists for MIAC POY if they were announced today would be:

David Olson - Augsburg
Ray Brown - Hamline
Aaron Burtzel - SJU
Tyler Nicolai - UST
Will Wright - Saint Mary's

I also believe that Carl Hipp of Hamline is still also very much in the discussion.

My vote right now would be for Burtzel.  *And Wonka he's shooting 65% on the year not 75%  ;)

UST 36, HAM 32 at half
Pipers trailed by 13 at one point
Nicolai and Brown each with nine

Gacman

The second mouse always gets the cheese.

Gusties make a huge statement tonight, winning by 11 at C-ville!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

From the in-game blog:
Hipp is one of three Pipers playing with three personals, to go along with a fouled-out Dan Anderson, who drew a technical foul playing with 4 fouls. Ray Brown also drew a technical following a dunk, after which he taunted to UST players.

last update...UST 52, HAM 43 (11:00 to play)....game started at like 8

Well, 5-5 as I predicted three weeks ago.

From the in-game blog:
Final score won't be completely indicative of the way this game was played, but the bottom line for Hamline is you won't win many nights when you shoot just 30%, commit 33 fouls (2 technicals) and 22 turnovers. UST wasn't much better, coughing up the ball 19 times, but anytime you can shoot 29-44 from the line is astounding.

Yikes.

Loco - Quick math for you. 55 baskets, 73 attempts. Helpful hint - I'm right, you're wrong  :-* And I'd take Cassens over Olson eight days a weeks.

As for tonight...heard Moses' boy Paulson was HUGE down the stretch. 12 and 6 is nice...but 18-26 on FTs for the Gusties is a concern.

And that's what we use when determining the conference MVP, right? Please try to keep up, Loco  ::)

I think the greatest compliment you can pay a team is that their sum is greater than the parts and I think that can be applied to GAC.  They were a well-oiled machine last night in beating the Johnnies who have gotten into a funk or maybe had "Tommie-hangover".

Both Paulson and McPartland played very well in the post and Van Sickle had a dagger 3 down the stretch.  You watch them play and they definitely have some talent but you come away thinking they defend well and run their offense and rebound it may not sound impressive but what they do, they do well.

Johnnies hurt themselves at the line and besides Blank and Burtzel inside no one else could find the bottom of the net with regularity.

The tough sledding continues for SJU who will play at suddenly resurgent Bethel tomorrow night and at Cartleton on Saturday.
