VOJ, whats going on at SJU this year??  Is Herman truely ineligible?  Is Latzke coming back? hopefully their massive pool of freshman can replace these two guys.

SUMMIT!!!!!

The Shoe lives on! The New Shoe is even better than the old one-- roomy seating, comfy if you get a seat not just bench, a sweet floor, great scoreboards and video-display.... bummer about parking, but the ramp is easy to use and not all that far of a walk (UST site says 300 yards). First home game-- 11/23 vs UWRF, and big showdown with UWSP right before Christmas.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

My summer hiatus is over. Hope everyone enjoyed their summer now that fall is in full swing. I was trying to skim a few of the pages to see what has been talked about, so if I repeat anything that is old news I apologize. I didn't see this being talked about, but Bobby J hurt his knee again this spring/summer. This potentially could be a huge blow to GAC two years in a row, but I've been told he should be back by Thanksgiving.

On a separate note, I'm excited to take in a game at the new shoe or whatever people are calling it.

This is what you call stretching for news to report.  ;D

Don't ask me why, but while I was scrolling through the Macalester website over my lunch hour, I came across this little tidbit.  Former Cobber standout resurfaces at MAC! Soren & T-Con should come back & work with the Mac post players this year.

Sofa King would be proud.  ;)

Due to the welcome, but unseasonably warm temperatures it never even occurred to me that schools might be starting to post a few early season basketball rosters.

Carleton, Macalester & St. Olaf all have rosters posted.

The Oles must have decided that last year's freshman class of one player - Andrew Sathoff, was not an acceptable recruiting best practice & decided to bring in 8 FY this year.  Good size, not familiar with any of the players.

It seems the recruiting lessons learned at St. Olaf weren't passed along to the staff at Carleton.  If I'm reading the roster correctly, the Knights only brought in one player this year?

Mac brought in 5 new players– no additional size to speak.  Hopefully, they improved their athleticism and basketball skills?

And stepped up their NC schedule considerably with 3 WIAC teams -  UWRF, UWSup & UWSP, all on the road. Likely means a return engagement at home next year.

Well, Mac can't do any worse, unless you're talking point differential...

Btw, they played @ UWRF last year... and lost 77-44.  Interesting they'd go on the road two years in a row.

It's always interesting to look at the MAC roster. They pulled in kids from Idaho, Georgia, and Massachusetts... what a uniquely different roster. There's also kids from France and Texas on there.

As far as Olaf, Daly is a 6'6" G/F that can shoot the 3. Gunderson was a fringe D2 prospect who should get at least some PT right away...

I wrote about Daly a little bit last year during the HS postseason, after seeing him twice. He's talented, but he's also the definition of rail thin. That said, I know he was recruited pretty heavily by a number of different MIAC schools...and we all know Koz isn't shy about playing freshmen.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Yeah, but that one kid, Danny Geiger (not to be confused with the hairless former Miami Heat center Matt Geiger) is going to be a stud. Sure, he wears T-shirts under his jersey, but he was the best player in the Missota Conference the past three seasons. A great shooter and his ability to get to the rim will help the Knights tremendously this year.

Smith's team will be without wings Todd Herman and Andrew Latzke. The 6-4 Herman, who averaged 10.6 points per game after becoming academically eligible last January, will not be eligible the first semester, and confirmed via an e-mail to the Times that his future beyond that is unclear. Further efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.

Latzke, who averaged 9.1 points per game last season, confirmed he has decided not to play this year.

A few days in to practice and the board is still relatively quiet!! I am as guilty as anyone but come on! How am I supposed to pretend to look busy while I sit at my desk at work??   ;D

Not much to report about the RedBirds as I have not been up to campus in a while but I have heard from more than one person that they did not add 1 new recruit for this season. I guess they felt like they were good enough.  ???

Hey TD - what's the word?  I think we're all starting to get a little antsy to see what unfolds this season.  In fact my hoops jones got so bad I actually started watching a little bit of the NBA team previews.   ::) ;D Can the Washington Wizards' John Wall & Gilbert Arenas peaceably co-exist?  Stay tuned as the Washington roulette wheel turns.

Ok, a few kindling twigs for the posting embers.  I just checked the Hamline site & they have photos posted from the first day of practice.

Hambone supporters - Prof, Yao, PI – last spring the word on the street was that Noah Aguirre, a member of the All-MIAC FY team might not return to the Pipers this year.  Is he back?  Hope so.  In my best Trent Tucker  impersonation  - "the young fella has game."  ;)

Noah is back with the pipers.  If you look in the photos he is actually standing in the background of one of them on crutches.  He had a minor ankle sprain early in the first practice, nothing serious.  He has let his hair grow out so you may not recognize him.  He does have game... :)

hello gentlemen---just checking in and hoping to hear this board pick up some 'mo' in the next week or so.  i am itching for some miac news, so please guys---don't be holding back.   the little blurb on hamline was helpful, let's keep those cards and letters coming.
anybody planning on attending the big football showdown at st. thomas this weekend?   :)  perhaps the gopher/penn state game should be played in st. paul, and the royals and the tommies could check out 'the bank?'   :o

And the news keeps trickling in...  ;)

Augsburg implemented a cool concept this season and featured an Iron Man contest to kick off the season.  The events were the mile run, bench press, & vertical jump.

Surprisingly, at least to me, jr forward Brett Sorenson was the contest winner.  The other surprise was the less than stellar showing by 3-pt shooting specialist – Matt Quammen.  I trust young Mr. Quammen continued to work on his shot this summer because he certainly didn't have much lift in his vertical or bench press.  ;D
