A changing of the guard eh? Hmm, sounds like this might be a good career move for Willy, but it's too bad he couldn't leave us with some type of farewell address.  ;)

I can't speak for others, but I know I'll miss Wonka's snarkiness, humor, insights & the occasional jousting on the board. Willy helped make this board a fun place to visit.   Good luck WW!

nice vocabuarly, dp.  snarky (cynical, sarcastic).  i like it.  :)   i also will miss ww's commentary.  anybody aware of where willie will be 'coaching?'  and speaking of coaching, where has localcoach been?  is voj no longer checking in?  come on!!   gacman and piperinsider are really going to have to step it up!  drake palmer will have to go from all-american to all-world.   8-)

Supe - If my sources can be trusted  :D Wonka is going to become a River Rat. St. Mary's women's basketball team.

With the exception of VOJ, I think the rest of the semi-regulars are waiting for the season to begin.  By St. Johns' standards, it's been a "down" fall sports season which may or may not explain VOJ's absence from the board.

Aside from a couple of posts on the football board earlier this fall, VOJ has been missing in action.  Maybe the SJU corporate sponsors told him to put a muzzle on his posting activities at the conclusion of the basketball season. :-*  :)

Is it just me, but are the MIAC schools even slower than usual in posting their rosters this season?  Here we are nearly 1.5 weeks into the beginning of the season and only the Oles, Carleton & Mac have their rosters posted.

I just did some checking and the Gusties are the first to go into action as they square off in an exhibition game against Augustana - SD, on November 1.  That's next Monday night & still no roster.

Other schools that have exhibition games:

SJU @ Marquette 11/6
Johnnies have a rugged non conference schedule. They have a nonconference game against St. Cloud State & play at defending champ UW- Stevens Point on 11/20.  Johnnie coaches must like starting out the year 0-4, 0-5.  :D I think they had a similar schedule & results last season. But to their credit at least the Jays schedule "real games" & will leave the friendly confines of their home court. This is the exact opposite of an anonymous school in the MIAC who every year scours the corners of the upper Midwest to bring in the annual patsy of the year.  ::)

CORD @ NDSU 11/6
HAM @ Concordia STP (CSTP) 11/9
UST @ Winona State 11/10.

Tommies also have a regular, non-conference game scheduled at CSTP for 11/16.

On another note, I watched a bit of the NBA season opener last night & caught a portion of Boston- Miami game.  While watching, I discovered my newest, favorite commercial. Sorry if everyone else has seen this already.

Can't go wrong with the White Stripes.

As for the MIAC"s favorite chocolatier:

He's not listed on the 2010-11 roster for the St. Mary's women's basketball team.

Greg - I didn't know you were White Stripes kinda guy.  Did you ever see the the movie "It Might Get Loud."  Not a great but interesting movie.  We have to get the publisher (PC) to fix the formatting features on the message board. Hopefully with the release of the new web design will fix the problem.

Didn't get the chance to see it in the theaters, although I wanted to. I'll probably rent it sometime.

Happen to be temporarily between trips west and north for various types of feather and fowl. Rest assured, Sum and the Mrs. will not go hungry this winter.

Lost my connection in C-ville. Watch is now in the greater Denver area! Like DP mentioned earlier the J's non-conference schedule is a killer. Coach Smith returns to his roots with the trip to Marquette.

Couple more trips either direction and I will be back for the duration!!!!
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

A little birdie (SCTimes) says West Gym in Northfield - which had four-and-a-half feet of water in its basement at one point - will likely still not be ready to be used again for another two or three weeks.

Sum- sounds like your freezer is full & pantry is packed. Good job. Greetings to the Watchman.  Now do you have two offspring in the Denver area?  I remember idling away hours of my youth by the banks of the idyllic Platte River & Cherry Creek. Not exactly.  ::) ;)

In other news, the D3 Top 25 came out today & as expected UW-Stevens Point is ranked preseason #1.

UST is ranked #13, which is about 10 slots too high, & they have Carleton ranked about 30th.  If Jeremy Sutherland can stay healthy; the Knights develop a serviceable post player to go along with the best post player in the conference – Jonker Kong, I look for the Knights to put the sleeper hold on the rest of the league.  ;)

The Tommies might make me back off from that statement, but this year's league championship should be hotly contested by UST, Carleton, & mebbe SJU.  In addition, some crackpot poster has recently been talking up the Cobbs as a top 4 team, but I'm wondering if his autumnal beverage of choice was spiked?

Now if the schools would start releasing their rosters we could do a little better job speculating.  :D

SUMMIT!!!!!

Sum-- do you deliver?  :)

I must be the one being called a "crackpot" but all I said was this better be the year for the Cobbs as their "Fab 5" freshy class from a few years back is now seniors and on their last hurrah.  Altho, if you look at the results of the past 3 CObber seasons and compare them to Buffalo High when Olsen & Olmscheid were freshman, to juniors, the parallels are almost scary. And we all know what happened in O & O's senior season at BHS!

But this "crackpot" will make a t-shirt wager with you Drake-- if SJU finishes ahead of Concordia, I will buy you a T from my alma mater....if Cord finishes ahead, you buy me one from your (mystery) alma mater (and Cook County Vo-Tech does not count!).. Are you willing to manup on it and risk exposing your alma mater, Drake? (I think think the rumors that you went to CSB have merit)~~~~~~~~~~~
Can UST become the first team to every win SIX MIAC regular season titles in a row?

I'd say that the conference title chase is a two-horse donnybrook between 5-time defending champ UST and the Blue Knight Crew.  A total clusterfield of dark horses will be battling for 3rd and hoping the top 2 fade-- that bunch will be Concordia, USJ, SMU, GAC, HAM, Augs and Ole. The war for playoff slots 3-6 wont be resolved until the last day of action.  Bethel and Mac, while both significantly improved over 2009-10 will bring up the rear.

My ballot for pre-seasonplayer of the year (if voted on) would be 1) Burtzel, 2) Fraase, 3) Nicolai, 4) Healy and 5) Wright.

After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

I dunno Mose. I'd hate to see you shirtless & penniless like Old Man Spice & John L. Sullivan this winter.  Financial experts aren't predicting a full recovery until next summer. :-* ;D

But on the other hand, I do look good in purple.

Finally a little movement on the board–Gustie roster is posted. I'm not sure if it's the economy & rising tuition costs, recruiting, or a lack of talent, but only two FY listed on the GAC roster.  However, both freshmen are definite contenders for the Palmer All-MIAC FY Name Team. :o ;D

What about Carl Hipp from Hamline? Isn't he a Top 5 player in the conference?
