Carleton gets screwed...

Ao's squad @ St Thomas

UW-River Falls vs Illinois Wesleyan

Yeah, I'm pretty suprised by this.  After the Concordia & Augustana pods were announced I thought it would be UST-North  & UWRF-Carleton.  It was going that way until the last spot.  I was barely even paying attention and then I here IWU get announced

Wow,

Tough break for the Carlies.  I know its not one of the criteria but do you think the MIAC's recent struggles in the NCAA's had anything to do with the snub (yes, I know St. Thomas made it to the Elite 8 two years ago but, they were supposed to go at least that far)?

No...they can't take that into considration.  My guess what made the difference is that Carleton's only major Regional win was at home against UST while Ill Wes had two big wins over North Central and one over Augustana....

Guessing that both teams were on the board at the same time when it came down to the last pick, and the major regional wins were the kicker for IWU over Carleton....but its tough to tell
Better Dead then Red

AO

Northwestern fans reaction to drawing St. Thomas

--players reaction--

Carleton was robbed.  They gave Stevens point the best run in the tournament last year, and could have been dangerous again.

Tough luck Carlies.  That's a drag.

This is a very dangerous opening round bracket for UST.  I t will be real interesting to watch the UWRF game vs, Illinois Wesleyan.

Also, nice move by the NCAA to split Whitworth away from the other west and midwest teams.

Hmm, don't see "major" regional wins as a criteria. I do see regional win pct. and wins over regionally ranked teams, and Carleton has the edge over IWU in both. The only edge IWU had was in SOS, which trended way up for IWU this week (hmmm...) and a bit down for the Knights. Still, according to the NCAA's own published criteria and numbers, Carleton should have made it.

I just did a quick scan, but overall, I'd say a nice job by the coaches on the All Conference awards.

hey, total bummer of a deal for the knights.  the miac get's NO respect.  now it REALLY makes me wish that gac had nabbed the toms on sunday.

scary thought: northwestern going postal from the arc and beating st. thomas this week.   think it might be a bit difficult to listen to AO for awhile?   :o

don't think we are going to have to worry about it. ::)

Fixed your quote above. How the West rates 1 at-large bid of 18 is beyond me.

I also can't argue with the coach selections, although I think Pierce Peters deserved consideration...very good all round player. My guess is the combination of being on the last place squad and and being a sophomore kept him off the list. I would consider him an excellent candidate to make both all conference and all defensive squads next year.

Well, part of the reason for that is that there weren't any major upsets of conference leaders...  St. Thomas, Whitworth, and Stevens Point all won their conference tournaments, and there were quite a few upsets elsewhere.

It really stinks... one more victory last week and Carleton's win % would have improved... and their SOS would have too.

Don't jinx us. I didn't think we'd have to worry about Carroll in 2007 but they went postal from the arc.

UST's perimeter defense is much better than in 2007. No chance this happens. UST by 30.
