"Who said anything about a national title run?" -- Care to retract your question MM??? I'll admit that I was completely wrong in my sour take on the Tommies over a month ago. I'll attribute that to the fact that the webcasts I saw were 2 of their 3 losses this year, so not exactly a great pool to draw from. But any time a team is ranked in the top-10 consistently for the year, you want to be a national champion when the clock hits zero.

I watched Friday night and was very impressed by how UST handled things inside despite a lack of height compared to Middlebury's bigs. A true mark of any champion is how you respond in the face of adversity, and when the Tommies were down late against Middlebury, I'll admit I was worried. But they made plays and came together when it mattered the most.

Congrats to the Tommies on an unbelivable season and playing your best basketball of the year at the right time.

I'm also completely appalled that a network couldn't pick up the national title game. I figured maybe ESPNU or CBS College Sports might have it, but no luck. The D-3 football title game is on ESPN every year... why can't one of the networks have it for basketball? I tried getting the live stream on my phone because I don't have internet at home, which didn't work. Thanks to those on Facebook who provided updates!

SUMMIT!!!!!

TH4L-- nothing to retract, because no one and that includes you, had said a word about a post-season run. It has been a great postseason and full of excellent ball, and it culminated in an amazing, thrilling champioship, the first of many, I hope.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

On the subject of why D3 Nat'l Championship game wasn't broadcast - CBS Sports (channel 871? on comcast HD) was broadcasting live the NAIA D1 championship game last night.

SUMMIT!!!!!

feel-good story of 2011--- the appearance at courtside of the player from Perham HS who nearly died from cardiac arrest earlier this season. Just reading about it/seeing it on the news gave me goosebumps, so I can only imagine what his teammates felt like!  Needless to say, it inspired PHS to a solid win in the quarterfinals

And that's the crew that did the D3 championship game last year.

That was definitely awesome. If you haven't seen it already, the MSHSL posted a video on facebook of Zach and his teammates before the game.

in other tourney news, my LP Thunder were knocked off by Rochester Lourdes last night in a high scoring affair 45-37.   It reminded me a little too much of my trip to state where we met hated litchfield for the 3rd time in 2002 and went down 43-25 after a 20-6 halftime score.  Of course I had to break out the old gametape so I could laugh at myself; coming back from one of the timeouts one of the cameras panned over to the litchfield crowd and I spied a 10 year old future ginger badger Mike Brusewitz wearing a cat in the hat style hat for some reason while screaming his head off encouraging his big brother and his fellow monsters to try and rip my head off, or at least that's what it seemed like at the time.

I'll take Hopkins to win it all comfortably, also keep an eye out tonight for a possible future Tommie, Grant Soderberg out of Eden Prairie.

Hey....congratulations to the St. Thomas team for putting it all together at the right time.

TearDrop

It has been quite some time since I actually contributed to the board so due to the incredible boredom from working on a Sunday night, I thought I would make a return to the D3 board. First I would just like to say Congratulations to the Tommies even if it does pain me to do it!

Second, I might try to stir up a little conversation.... Looking at how things have turned out for my Redbirds, would it be safe to say that they could quite possibly go WINLESS  :( in the 2011-2012 season?? Again, it pains me to say but I am only trying to be realistic here. With the loss of Wright and Holland to graduation and now losing Palmer to family matters.... it seems the pantry is pretty bare. I hope that Coach Landrum can make some serious waves in the 2011 recruiting class

Congrats to former Piper coach Barry Wohler!

Saw his team beat Hutch 113-107 in overtime this year.

Coach Wohler has done at Orono what he started doing at Hamline in a short amount of time - turn the program around.  It has to be exciting for him as a coach and to see his son excel the way he has.

For those of us who also follow the D1 March Madness, you can't help but be intrigued & impressed by upstart VCU & their young head coach Shaka Smart.  Apparently, he's a Midwesterner from next door in Madison, WI, turned down Harvard so he could play D3 ball at Kenyon College in Ohio, & now this?  Impressive stuff!  Butler & VCU in the Final Four - whoddathunk? I might have to go with VCU over Butler. might  ;)

Stevens from Butler is a Midwest DIII alum as well. He played for DePauw at the same time Smart played for Kenyon. Pretty cool article about it all in the Indy Star

Check out the Slam Dunk Contest tonight at 8 on ESPN2.  D3 guy got voted in to the dunk contest.  Great for Division III hoops.

Sorry if someone else posted this but thought it was worth sharing.

Any word  on any more transfers or commitments?

hoopsup

I've heard from a couple people that Hamline will lose 4 - 5 players to transfer when the current school year ends.

If I'm not mistaken, this is about the 4th or 5th time you've brought this topic up.  Not to be harsh (well, mebbbe a lttle bit  ::) ;) ) Either name names, or drop it.
