St. John roster is posted. I'm not sure how the Johnnies will fare in the league this season, but without a doubt, as a team they are the early front runners for the Palmer Freshman All-Name Team.  They are loaded with quality Freshman names.  Thus far, my top 2 favorites are Dylan Dangerfield & Otto Pfefferle.  In my best Dick Vitale voice –"Are you kidding me?!? PT baby!  Those are some seriously deep names."  :o ;D

Otto is from here in Northfield. He's the nephew of one Andy Berkvam of Lakeville North HS GBB fame. Great kid from a great family. Might need to get a bit stronger to bang inside with the MIAC big boys, but I'll be rooting for him to do well for SJU (except when they play my Knights).

Anyone know where Anthony Tucker from Hopkins,Iowa, and Winona State ended up.  Romor was this summer that he was going to Hamline.  Did he end up there ?  Go somewhere else ?  Anyone know ?

Tucker is sitting out this year as a transfer at MSU-Moorhead.

Interesting starting lineup.  Tommy Hannon, John Nance, & Leslie are not surprises given that Hannon was a starter, & Leslie & Nance both saw significant minutes for the Tommies last year.   Hopefully Noah Kaiser is healthy & ready for a breakout year.  The early surprise for me is the apparent emergence of SO Erik Tengwall over JR Will DeBerg at the PG spot or 2G spot. With FY Marcus Alipate waiting in the wings, seems like a lot of healthy competition at the 1 & 2 spot.

If Dylan Stewart is as good as advertised, lots of competition at the 2G & small forward spot, with Nance, Stewart, Kaiser, Zach Riedemann, etc.

UST could be a little light at the power forward/post spots. With Garrett Maloney & Josh Pedretti on the football team, Tommy Hannon will have to do a lot of the heavy lifting in the early part of the season until they arrive. Or see which of the younger underclassmen step up – Josh Pella, Connor Nord, perhaps Ryan Duxbury etc.

Another missing piece, whatever became of Hamline –SW State-UST injured transfer Eric Clute?

Alipate played a sizable role off the bench last night... 18 min

The box score for the UST Winona game is available at the Winona website. The Tommie's had a hard time, 26 turnovers to 11 assists  :'( Last years game was similar but not quite as bad and they won the National Champ. They appear to have a lot of work ahead of them :-\

Other word out of Winona...

*Both Kaiser & Nance got dinged up head injuries – possible concussions,

*Hannon played pretty decent considering he was going up against a man-child in the paint with 40lbs on him.

*Tengwall fairly steady with the ball, Alipate looked ok, DeBerg played the part of instant offense but needed to play better D & take care of the ball.

*FY Dylan Stewart struggled in his minutes - 8 minutes

*FY post Connor Nord looked very good during his time in the game (22 minutes) & right now looked to be better equipped to contribute than the other FY.

Wow - the Hamline roster is up! I'm not sure of the talent level of the incoming baby Pipers, but their names rival those great freshmen names up at St. Johns.  Rival SJU? Heck, Hamline has 5 names that could easily make the Palmer MIAC All-Name team.  Check it out:

Zach Moll
Marshall Jestings
Dior Ford
Marcel Govan
Kohner Urias (JR transfer)
McDaniel Doe

The judges are going to have their hands full trying to pare the list down to the top 6-7 names from around the league. They might have to implement a new rule which stipulates no more than 2 names from one team.  Some tough choices to make.   ;D

Hamline's recruiting angle is really sorta fascinating.  The Pipers coaches go back to the Pacific Northwest and pick up another 3 pt. specialist in smallish, 2G guard – Zach Moll from Oregon.  Then they slide down the coast & pick up a stocky guard from California 6-0 201lbs, Josh Baker.

In the last leg of their out of state recruiting run, they head over to Arizona where it seemed they hit the recruiting mother lode.  In sunny Arizona, Coach LA finds 3 FY & 1 junior transfer to head back to beautiful St. Paul.

It will be fun to watch this season develop over at Snelling & Hewitt. The Pipes have got a nice core of players in SR Mike Campbell, JR Noah Aguirre, the west Coast guards in Brandon Rieg, Levi Wenrich & Tyler Pannell, along with some local MN talent. I did a little research last night & on paper it appears the Pipes have got a decent to strong recruiting class.

Whitmore and his yes-man Hopkins have to travel accross the country to try and get "student" athletes because the legit local ones now know what those 2 are all about and why would they want to play in a program like that when there are so many better local ones to turn to for the quality student athletes in this area.  Best of luck PIPERS.

I think Hamline looks pretty good post-Hipp. Despite losing a kid who averaged a double-double, Mike Campbell was a great pickup for them last year and I loved what I saw from him. Definitely plays with intensity. With Campbell, Aguirre, Pannell, Taber, and Rieg all returning, that's 5 out of 6 of their top scorers from last year. Assuming there's minimal regression and/or a few of these freshmen can contribute, I think things look positive for the Pipes this year.

Minnesota Nice coming through loud and clear!  Trying to crash the "USS Piper' into the rocks is getting old.  IMHO - It brings more "street creed" if you would also mention "Westy" and his non-effective recruiting classes and their rapid fall from Glory, or "Toddy" for bring in only 2 recruits in 3 years (not to mention loosing Palmer) and even "Greisy" adding new kids the last three year at 2nd Semester.

It seems to me that "talking" material would have been if Hipp would have left or there were other defectors - other than those that didn't start....  I am sorry for all the dad's that live through their kids and family members that will never see the big picture - but looking at past HU rosters many of those kids got a shot to play in the MIAC because it was Hamline... ie - Pratt won't average 12 minutes in Northfield.

The wise ones like "Drake" and "Local" even though they will not always write it - do appreciate the fact that the current "gestapo" on Snelling & Hewitt has done more in the last 5 years for Piper Basketball that any of the HU coaches since Hutton (and we loved "Barry" and his minor league stories).   :o

However - many of us would rather thank he "admiral" and his yes man boy wonder "Hoppy" for helping us move the MIAC to a more balanced and competitive conference.  I am glad that at least some of the coaches have realized that St. Thomas is St. Thomas and St. John's is St. John's is St. John's and you can never compete with that in the Twin Cities - unless you are a D1 or D2 with the same money on the table.  ;)

So good for them - good for us, they found a way to get good players to "enjoy" the great MN weather during the season while making the MIAC better from top to bottom.

Here's to looking forward to another crazy MIAC season.  With the defending national champs embarking on a new era and Auggie Tech beating a D1 in Houston Baptist- who knows what is in stored...

So jump in, sit down and buckle up - this ride looks to be a crazy one.  8-)
As long as people continue to believe that anyone can coach - They will also continue to believe that anyone can criticize a coach.

Congratulations to Augsburg for defeating D-I Houston Baptist in an exhibition game. Last night Oxy hung tough with Pepperdine and even had a 3-point lead with about 6 minutes to go, but lost 78-72.

Looking forward to seeing St. Thomas play at Oxy on Nov. 18. Oxy gave UST a good game in 2006 when UST had Schnettler, Keating, and Rosefelt.

Oxy- if you saw the champ game last spring, you will know this is a whole different breed of basketball than UST played in 06. Should be a good, fun matchup with you and with Pomona, too. Just promise us-- NO earthquakes !!!

A total classless post from BBALLFAN247365.  But considering who and where it came from, it shouldn't surprise anybody.
