puhleez people...Mac had a 4-5 year run where they were competitive, and based on their history, those were an aberration. They have made the Playoffs 3 of 27 years and are 2-3 in playoff action. They last won the conference in 1980 (well shared it with a few others) and their only other title was in 1936-37. The Scots haven't been a factor in the league 80 of 90 years.  There is nothing to REbuild there...it's a building project and one that has been tried and retried and never really been done. Many sources say the Admin is reluctant to support athletics and it shows on the court (as well as the football field). Yes, it was nice for a handful of years a decade ago, but that is the Golden Age at Mac.
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Ouch :-[But you make very valid points Mose which I cannot argue with. Although ancient history, MAC's last win over the Tommies will, however, always be a fond memory for papa ;) :)
I was disappointed in Drake's news of another Augsburg loss against weak competiton. I was hoping based on their early conference success twith good front court play that the Dawgs might join Carleton in giving UST some real competition this year. Based on Augsburgs's  recent slide however, it appears Carleton is shaping up as the one true threat to UST's run of league dominance.

Pappa, I have tried everything short of visiting Dr Bachmann to rid me of the memory of that game....but do games played at St Kate's really count?  :)

From Shooter's column in the Pioneer Press today...

"Former University of St. Thomas basketball players Anders Halvorsen and Teddy Archer are playing professionally in Spain, and former Tommie Issac Rosefelt is a pro playing in Israel."

I knew Ike was playing overseas, & had heard he might play on the Israeli Olympic team next year, but seriously Anders & Teddy?!? Hmmpt.  ::) :)

No – Charley Walters is not losing it, and did in fact make mention of this in his column a few weeks ago.  As much as I like Joe Scott, I thought this notion was a bit far-fetched so I never bothered to post this nonsense tidbit.

I do know a good doctor who could possibly help restore the dangerously, high purple sugar levels in your system, and bring you back to a "relatively", normal Tommie outlook upon the world of sports.  8-) ;)

being snarky before Christmas is bad form. My oilder brother Santiago (family and friends call him Santa) has been known to frown upon such antics.  :) ::) :P

A local boy getting invited to try out for an NBA team is nonsense? Really??

Does Charley happen to know who is the most recent addition to the NY Nets coaching staff?

Quiet days around here & in the world of basketball.

To make up the void I took in the Benilde- St. Margaret vs. Minnetonka HS basketball game last night.   Benilde is ranked #1 in 3A & knocked off previously unbeaten Hopkins last week. They've got a couple of D1 signees in Sanjay Lumpkin – Northwestern, & Isaiah Zierden – Creighton, plus a couple of nice looking players who would look good in a MIAC school uniform.  Most notable was SR Isaiah Gray.  Gray is a 6 foot guard who scored 13 pts, 14 rebs, & 8 assists against Hopkins. Last night he scored 18 pts against Tonka. Not much of an outside shot, but excellent handles, speed, athleticism & can get to the cup.

Minnetonka has got some nice players as well, but the D3 type player that stood out the most was 6-2 SR guard Tommy McDermott.  The kid was outstanding. At one point he was guarding 6-7 Sanjay Lumpkin.  Excellent, excellent shooter, can create his shot off the dribble, nice, nice J. I kidded with several people in the stands & said he would look good in a St. Olaf black & gold. I'd hardly got those words out of my mouth when I turned & noticed UST assistant coach Jim Hayes up in the stands along with an Ole assistant coach.  :D

I'm not sure how many saw this on the front page of the website – but here's a tremendous dunk by a D3 player that was featured on ESPN Sports Center Top 10 plays several days ago:

Big game tomorrow night... UST @ UWSP.

The only place Stevens Point has had success against the Tommies is in Central Wisconsin (1-0 at home vs. 0-3 in St. Paul and 0-1 neutral @ Augie).

Point has had some struggles this year (see @ St. Johns) but appears to be getting things together... last week, they beat two previously unbeaten teams in UW Whitewater and Edgewood.

UWSP also is riding a 26 game home winning streak and has not trailed at half time all season.

This should be another really good game.

Possibly more later...

I'm going to post this on the WIAC board too...

But, like I said, this should be an entertaining and interesting game.

St. Thomas is #2 in the country in field goal percentage, so I don't think they're just a one trick pony.

That being said, they lost 4 starters from last year's team the same way that SP did.

Here are the offensive and defensive efficiencies from this year and last.

   2011-12
   UST O       116.5
   UST D       100.0

   UWSP O       112.1
   UWSP D       94.2

   2010-11
   UST O       113.8
   UST D       97.1

   UWSP O       116.1
   UWSP D       85.4

UWSP had an edge offensively and defensively last year... but still lost twice to the Tommies (part of UWSP's stats may have been inflated though... they had a ton of blow outs last year and averaged +21.5 margin of victory, best in the land).

This year, UST has the edge offensively but Point still has the edge defensively.  Neither team is as good defensively as they were last year... and it seems that UST is even better offensively.

Massey has UWSP #6 and UST #8... with UWSP winning tonight by 6 (76-70, 74%)  Massey has Point with a #6 SOS and UST with a #23 SOS.

The D3Basketball index has Point #6 and UST #18... with UWSP having a #8 SOS and UST having a #67 SOS.  The d3Basketball Index doesn't have the games for today up yet... so not sure what that would be.

UWSP also has that 26 game home winning streak on the line... but they also have been in the thick of things in several games.  I think this game will likely be close and could come down to a single possession.  Point has been in a number of those games, so I like their chances... but I also wouldn't be surprised if UST was able to pull out the W.

The funny thing was that was McDermott's second game of the season. He missed the first four. Tonka's big four of McDermott, Latrell Love (transfer from Mpls Henry), Riley Dearring (transfer from Hopkins to DeLaSalle to Tonka) and Joe Risinger might all be playing ball some day in college. Dearring and Risinger might look good in the MIAC as well (I know Risinger didn't have a great game Tuesday but he's a double-digit scorer right now for them).

Happy holidays to everyone! Be safe!

Happy holidays to the MIAC fam!

I remember how hyped Riley Dearring was a few years ago... he had that Strib/PP (can't remember which) article about how he was a "prodigy" of sorts. It's too bad that he got touted at such a young age... you really see him as a MIAC-level guy?

Probably not...just hoping his assistant coach, Nick Carroll, a former Hamline Piper, may send these guys in a great direction to succeed on the court and in the classroom in the MIAC.

Here is that story you mentioned: http://www.startribune.com/templates/Print_This_Story?sid=46505142
