And the last roster is posted, Hamline's.  I don't know how their freshmen will turn out, but Hamline is doing an impressive job recruiting around the nation. Oregon, California, Arizona, last year, & now Louisiana this year. If they could effectively combine out state along with in-state recruiting they could get a nice little thing going with their basketball program.

Next week I'll have to post the Palmer All-MIAC FY Name team.  At first glance, there don't appear to be as many colorful or interesting names this season.  :P ;D

Kyle von Schmidt-Pauli? Tarik Hujdurovic? Sean McWhinnie? Cortez Tillman? Steele Krause?

I think you got plenty to work with!

After I went through all of the rosters again, I changed my mind.  I ended up with a good, solid 10-12 names & will once again be able to award first and second teams, possible honorable mention, plus the unveiling of a new name category.  8-) ;D

2013 Drake Palmer's All MIAC Freshmen Name Team

After careful reconsideration, the Drake Palmer selection committee agreed to continue with the highly anticipated, annual All MIAC Freshmen Name Team.  Drum roll please....

Second Team

Trey "Downtown" Muraoka -- Macalester
Griffin Glatt "Glatt Gun"–- Macalester
Cory "Dancing Queen" Abbas -- Concordia
Kyle Von Schmidt Pauli – "nothing more needs to be said" –- Bethel
Johnny "Mickey Crime Noir" Spillane -– St. Mary's

Sixth Man

Tarik Hujdurovic  - St. Johns (when his older brother Nermin played at St Johns,' they used this pronunciation guide:  "who der-o vitch." So in my mind, this became "Tarik who der old vitch with you?"  ;D

First Team

Wesley "Snipes" Pinera –- Hamline
Chad Poppen "Poppen Fresh" or "Doughboy" –- Gustavus

First Team–All Bilingual Team

Taylor Montero –- St. Thomas
Cortez Tillman –- St. Thomas

The following name goes up there with one of the committee's all-time MIAC favorites – Stoddard Barnhill, formerly of Hamline.  Visualize a darkened arena, single spotlight & drum roll...

The Palmer FY All Name Player of the Year

Steele Krause

I hope he can live up to his moniker. This name is seriously cold-blooded.   :D

St. Thomas looked really good tonight at Whitman. They have a very athletic, aggressive front court and nice depth off the bench.

SUMMIT!!!!!

solid win for UST tonight. Hannon looked like a 2nd team all american....deberg had a hot hand especially in first half...nord & reiderman both have upped their game since last year.....lotta fouls and a couple of techies on a obviously frustrated Whitman team.  UST shot 65% from the floor.

Ouch... all the way from Walla Walla Washington? They would have been better off waiting to start their march until they flew home to St. Paul.

Either way, I think they'll be really tired when they get there!

I took it to mean that maniac was starting his own, personal March to Atlanta and that he was leaving immediately! ;D Google maps says it should only take him about 35 days, if he'll march about 10 hours/day. Maniac, "Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths."

Good win for the Knights last night over a solid Elmhurst club. Sawatzke looked like his normal, fearless self, Theissen was solid and I think McSparron is ready to make the jump to an all-conference level type of player. McSparron made a couple of big-time blocks in transition and knocked down his normal mid-range shots. Goetz gets back on the court after a 22-month absence and Taylor Hanson returns 11 months after his knee injury. Both looked pretty good, and hopefully they can stay healthy and build some confidence over the next 4 weeks, although both looked pretty good shooting the ball.

As a Civil War buff, one of my favorite campaigns of the war was Sherman's drive to the sea, including his march on Atlanta. The siege and destruction of Atlanta was, from a military standpoint, brilliantly done.

With the title game being played in Atlanta this year, I coudlnt resist drawing parallels between Sherman's march and (hopefully) UST's. Hiking it could be easier than taking some of Delta's flights!

methinks C-SID is thinking Rhett Butler's famous line about now  :) ;D 8-) :o

Watched some of the live video feed of the Stevens Point game vs. St. Olaf.  I appreciate St. Olaf being all fancy with their multiple camera angles, but someone has to tell those camera guys to follow the ball!  Not sure what happened at the end of Point's win, but the camera showed the inbounds pass but failed to follow the ball.   :-[  No idea if they got a shot off or what! Anyway, glad to come home with a lucky win as St. Olaf missed two front end bonus shots and then both attempts of a double bonus to give Point a chance to win it with a long 3-pointer with less than two seconds left.
