Greek Tragedy

Really thought there would be more MIACers reporting on the big St. Thomas win over Stevens Point...

SUMMIT!!!!!

I had an out of town wake to attend today and didnt get back in time to catch the game at Mac....Scots losing wasnt the big shocker....but noticing that Pierce Peters did not appear on the court for Mac was shocking. He was also conspicuously absent in the Scots' loss to SJU a couple of weeks back. Anyone with any idea what's going on? I've heard unsubstantiated rumors that he left the team.  Calling Poppa Hoops or one-arm, the usual sources of info on Mac

That would be a major bummer for Mac. Only 3 MIAC wins for Coach Whittle, now in his fourth season at Mac. Not what he expected, I'm sure.

Expecting T Hanson to return to the Knights' line-up in 2013. Hopefully he's all healed up and ready to roll - should be a major dogfight for 3-6 spots, assuming that UST and Augsburg continue the strong showings. Watched the Oles play a bit online at Eau Claire vs. BluGolds and UWS, and looked great at times and not-so-hot at other times. I've also seen Bethel, Concordia, SJU and (obviously) Carleton, and I would say the same for all those teams. All inconsistent, but fun to watch when they're on their games.

Haven't seen GAC or Hamline yet, but Coach Hanson has to be pleased with the start after break, picking up two wins at the Eau Claire tourney opposite St. Olaf.

Like my Knights' chances to grab one of those six spots if they can stay healthy. Every victory should be savored in the MIAC in 2013!

Hamline basketball makes the news: http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/185527302.html  :-[  :-[

The other shoe drops at Hamline.
The spokane tv report.

"According to Bray's father, Kayla's face was fractured in three places. Her jaw and eye socket were shattered, and she required emergency surgery to insert two plates."

There were four technical fouls against the Hamline team in the game against Whitworth that day.  The coach was ejected.  anger problems?

Hey, although a NESCAC fan, I've followed the Hamline story with interest as my wife is a Hamline alum.  I am familiar with that coach as he built some very strong teams at SUNY-Brockport in the first half of last decade.  I am now curious if he left that school under a cloud, as a lateral move (really, less than lateral considering Hamline's hoops tradition and struggle to compete in a very tough conference) is a bit unusual given the powerhouse he was building at Brockport?

In all events, kudos to the university for doing the right thing, I can't imagine that result happening in D-1, but in my view the punishment fits the crime: the original incident was horrific, but that involved only one dude, the failure to seek medical attention was unconscionable and speaks volumes about the team's leadership culture, starting with the head coach.

Curious to hear (If there are any Hamline posters here) what the reaction is on campus, and whether the coach is someone with a prior history of discipline issues.

I never heard anything about Nelson Whitmore leaving Brockport under a cloud.

Very sad incident.
Considering I was at game I should advise Cdalakelady this has nothing to do with a technical foul.
If you we're there you'd realize the ref giving the Ts had rabbit ears, and two of them were given within a ten second span when the game was within 3pts and hamlines coach was bringing attention to a missed 3 second violation, no cussing, no attacking, just a head coach doing what head coaches do.....even whitworth regulars were baffled at the immediate T and immediate ensuing T.
One of the Ts was given to a hamline player in response to a whiworth player in a physical confrontation the whitworth player instigated, keep in mind the guy who reacts is most often given the T.  The other involved a cuss word the rabbit ear ref happened to hear.
Regarding the anger problems comment I would have to say know the facts before casting judgement.

One kids unbelievable actions have seemed to cause much more damage than the horrible thing he did to the girl.  He has affected many people.
He deserves whats coming to him.  But just as the poor girl is suffering, so are many others in other ways because of him.

Dont rush to judge an entire program due to one very messed up person.

Pat, thanks, I just now read some old posts and it sounded like Whitmore had some very good reasons to leave Brockport for Hamline.

But fanofball, this is more than about one player (even though, of course, he is by far the biggest culprit).  From what I understand, the entire team was around when this occurred (or most of them, anyway), and if the report is accurate, they refused the victim's pleas to call for an ambulance out of worries about repercussions for breaking curfew.  Again, if accurate, that is certainly a problem that goes well beyond just one player, and the school is justified in taking actions against the entire program.  I note, by the way, that this incident is completely foreign to everything Hamline as a school, and the Hamline alums I know, represent, which I'm sure is in part why the school took such swift and strong action in response.

I can assure you most of what you have read is inaccurate.  Some truths, some stretched, and twisted to have an even better story.

It's so easy to read an article and buy it as the whole truth.

Some players deserve the suspension for sure, others not so much.  The coach deserves better.

I'd have to think as this process moves forward it will all come out, but the suspension of whitmore in my opinion is completely unjustified, and should not have happened.

I suppose we can all come to our own conclusion of what happened, what should have happened, and what didn't happen, but I've seen too many college athletes in trouble for one thing or another, and they themselves are held accountable, not the coach who could not have babysat each and every one for 24hrs.  Too harsh in my opinion, this idiot kid is able to ruin a mans career, and affect teammates who more than likely had never seen anything like this?  My guess is mass confusion. Shock, and disbelief....leading to other than wise decisions.....

Cdalakelady

I have seen lots of poorly refed games and many missed calls.  But I have never seen 4 technicals in one game.  Especially at a division 3 game.  Just saying, not judging.
