interesting. I'd forgotten how SMU regressed under Landrum (as pointed out by the commenter). Wait till May and completely writeoff any hope of a freshman class... as it is, theres next to no hope for any recruiting to be done if they hire someone this week.

Some names I've heard in connection to the SMU job:

Joe Esposito, former Director of Basketball Operations at Minnesota
Jamison Rusthoven, current assistant at UW Plateville, former Hamline assistant
Nigel Jenkins, current head coach at Waldorf in Iowa, former SMU assistant from the Trewick era

Also, an assistant from UW Stout whose name slips my mind.  There may be a couple others as well.

A little birdie told me that Nigel Jenkins and Jamison Rusthoven are the frontrunners at SMU.  Hadn't heard Mr. Esposito's name, but I have also heard that an assistant at Macalester may be involved.

Good point, Sensei. I would agree that the Bethel/Westland firing 'report' has a bit of a smell to it.  Following a year where he took the most ragamuffin outfit he has ever coached and landed them in the MIAC playoffs, it is hard to imagine what could have linked his name to a firing.  The story has 'hoax' written all over it.

And SMU still has Coach Landrum and staff listed and that was announced late February. I guess that can be chalked up to slow, just like the search process.

hmmm. someone using a handle of "DirtKing" but too shy to let his/her real identity be known is blogging a bunch of unsubstantiated rumors that his/her unnamed sources whisper in his/her ear.  at least he/she spelled Bethel right nit nothing I can come across supports this claim. its possible.....but so is winning the powerball

I'm told Westlund is out at Bethel. It happened Monday and the team was informed late last week. I'm also told coaches were informed at their conference meeting and most were "shocked." Given the fact they've been a competitive program lately and a playoff team it's somewhat surprising. No reasoning or explanation yet, but it should be interesting to hear what comes of it.
