The only thing worse than no webcast is a lousy webcast. I'm trying to watch the Hamline / SJU game and I feel like a I need an air sick bag at the ready.  The video and audio quality are excellent but it's the camera work that's driving me nuts.  They've got a sideline camera and 2 baseline floor cameras.  The problems I have is that the sideline camera man zooms in so much that only five or six players can be seen in the frame...they should keep the camera zoned in on each third of the court...three point line to the baseline and stick with that.
The other major issue is that the guy in charge loves switching camera angles in the middle of the play.

Yeah, those are tough to watch...folks in charge of production who seem to be either - trying to do something unique and provide lots of angles, or trying to keep all of their camera operators involved...regardless, it takes the joy out of watching, that's for sure.  There's a reason that D1 and NBA camera crews rarely deviate from the side - wide angle during play.

Johnnies hitting their stride?  They have the size and point guard play to beat anyone in the conference, IMO...

Completely agree with previous two posts. SJU needs to get rid of baseline cameras. Not only does it make you sick while watching, it goes to baseline cameras at wrong times of the game and you can't see what's going on. Tough loss for Hamline though last night. Made some shots and had the ball up 3 with 11 seconds to go.

Nice win for Augsburg last night. Coach Griess can flat out coach. I know that's not breaking news, but to start the year most would agree this is the least amount of talent he's had in past 6 years or so.

Oles handled SMU, especially the last 12 minutes when SMU only managed 6 points. While having upperclassmen is usually a plus, it doesn't always mean more wins. But something that wins is talent and guys who can make shots. Olaf just has more of both, not just older and stronger. Will be interesting to see how long Figini is out.

SUMMIT!!!!!

It appears that somebody in Collegeville got the message regarding camera work.  Last night's work on the St. Mary's game was considerably better.  They did have some audio problems but at least I didn't need to take Dramamine to get through the game.

Big things tonight in Northfield when the 19th ranked Oles take on #3 (seriously?!?) St. Thomas.  Other obligations prevents me from checking this clash of the Titans out, but I'm thinking STO has too much depth, and firepower. Oles by 7 points at home.  Austin Majeskie??  ;)

With any luck I'm might be able to catch the 2nd half on the webcast.

The board is alive!

Since my Knights are out of town, might head over and check it out. The Tommie guards are so good, but thinking home court advantage might be too much to overcome.

Barnburner in Northfield last night!  I caught the game on the webcast which was excellently produced and announced. Between Carleton & St. Olaf I think these two schools are the tops in the league for webcasts.

The game itself was a well-played, physical ball game, & UST came out on top 86-77. Anytime a team – St. Olaf, shoots 63% from the floor (36-59 FGA) you would think a team would have a pretty good chance of winning the ball game.  Oles have got a very nice looking club with good depth, but the key stats:

*Oles were 3-13 3FGA
*2-8 FTs
* Outrebounded 36-26.

The Tommies were 34-64 FGA for 53%, 6-18 3FGA 33%, 12-18 FTs, and pounded the Oles on the glass which was a bit of surprise. The Oles have got the size+ to compete with UST.  However, UST's aggressiveness on the boards was key, team defense in the closing minutes of the game, along with the play of PG Grant Shaeffer, 22 pts, 4 assists.

Two head scratchers

After coming off a monster 30 pt game against Bethel, Marcus Alipate was missing for much of the second half against STO and was replaced by Cortez Tillman. Although Alipate & Tillman are both streaky shooters, perhaps Tillman is the defensive spark plug UST needs? The last time i saw UST play, I think UST made a similar substitution.

Ben Figini. My first chance at seeing him play. Obviously a very gifted offensive force, but at 6-8, only two rebounds?    ;)

Not good, but there weren't many missed shots to go around last night.  The missed 3s are a little harder for the bigs to get after and he likely was guarding Nord for many of his 8 misses, making it harder to also be the rebounder of those shots.

UST grabbed 36 rebs, Oles 26.

Just saying Figini's 2 is probably equivalent to 4 in a game with average shooting.  Definitely beaten on the boards but "2" is misleading.

I think we should go ahead and support the Tommies for the #1 team in the country right now.  No dominant teams out there.  why not?

Carleton's commentators do a great job.  While I was frustrated with BU's performance against Carleton (man does Bethel ever struggle against Carleton for whatever reason), those guys were solid to listen to.  Reasonably non-biased input about what was going on (of course they're going to lean Carleton, but it wasn't ever hard to listen to), and they had some intellegent input.

Pleasently surprised to see BU knock off the Gusties last night on a last second bucket by Brycen Wojta.

Re:Figini - While tall, he's not impressively mobile (as compared to say an Isaac Rosevelt, who was much more capable of moving around and tracking down rebounds.)  2 boards does seem shockingly low, but at least vs. BU, he just didn't strike me as an especially skilled rebounder.
