Given that they have months to figure this out and NCAA basketball is literally their job, I think they probably have less trouble in this regard than people that do a bracket in their spare time on a Sunday night on youtube.

Actually, committee members each have full-time jobs at their schools and conferences. No doubt they devote a lot of time to this, but it is literally *not* their job.

Whether you think much of me or Dave, we've been doing this a lot longer than any of them have -- which makes things interesting, for sure. They just get access to tools that make the calculations automatically and make the mapping easier. :) And they have the actual budget.

Committees can wait until Sunday... unbelievable buzzer beater by the MVP tonight. Coplin nails a 3 at the top of the key to lift Auggies into the semis 67-64 over Olaf. I'll try to track down a video but it was cold blooded.

(I don't really like the shot selection when tied and settle for a contested deep 3 but they are still playing basketball...)

Booker Coplin is the best MIAC player I've seen in my time watching the league.  He's incredible.   What a performance down the stretch.

Drake Palmer

Ditto about the game, and Coplin.

Fair questions about the selection process as well. A fair and thorough evaluation process shouldn't be too much to ask.

D3... the red headed stepchild of the NCAA.

I mean if you want to mislead and claim I said something I didn't, well whatever.

But I'm gonna guess people who get paid by actual schools to do actual basketball and athletic department things know more about basketball and athletics than you all do. Maybe I'm wrong, but probably I'm not.

And it's not just the committee, even. It's basically the combined time spent watching, evaluating, analyzing on the part of everyone the committee talks to as well.

I find it more than a little bit arrogant that you think you and a few friends are or should be better than that. Be a bit like me thinking I know more about basketball coaching than Johnny Tauer...and his staff.

Booker Coplin buzzer beater.

Only the second most outstanding bucket he scored. The putback he had while his torso was nearly parallel to the floor was unreal.

Fantastic game, great player. Not gonna lie, was hoping to see Augsburg/St. Thomas again.

I love the shot selection because your best guy, and maybe everyone's best guy, is taking the shot he's comfortable with at the time he feels it.

I have to agree, that putback shot was unbelievable. Words were failing the announcers tonight, you just had to come up with your own!

He also didn’t allow anytime for an offensive rebound and put back. I’m really splitting hairs though, cause like you said, Coplin should be taking the shot unless he is getting hounded by two oles... which raises the question, why not run a second defender at Coplin to get the ball out of his hands?

txg

I would say he makes that shot at least 40% of the time.  I would call that play every time.  I wish the Oles had tried to double him as the clock wound down.

Every time I watch him play, I wonder how Augsburg lost any games last year.

I get what you're saying and we're not saying we know more or that they don't know things -- just saying we have been putting mock brackets together across multiple sports for 20 years and the committee is fresh every few years because of the forced turnover. That's all.

I listened to the brief post game interview they had with Coplin, and he indicated the Oles were packing the lane to prevent the drive and possible foul call, so his best option was the pull up jumper.  Dagger.
